After Williams' most recent performance, I think Adames grinds him down and eventually stops him in the last third of the fight.

Sources: Carlos Adames-Ammo Williams Moves To March 21

Carlos Adames has had his world title defense against Austin 'Ammo' Williams rescheduled, sources tell The Ring.

Adames and Williams will meet on March 21 in Orlando, Florida for the former's WBC middleweight title.

The pair was supposed to clash on "The Ring 6" on January 31, but Adames pulled out before the weigh-in on fight week, citing illness.

Williams went ahead and fought late replacement Wendy Toussaint, winning a 10-round unanimous decision at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Adames is ranked No. 1 by The Ring at middleweight, while Williams sits eighth in the top 10.

Carlos Adames vs Austin Williams rescheduled for March 21st in Orlando

The WBC middleweight title fight is back on the schedule, this time as a main event

After withdrawing from their planned showdown last month at the eleventh hour, Carlos Adames is once again set to defend his WBC middleweight title against Austin “Ammo” Williams, this time in a March 21st DAZN main event from Orlando’s Caribe Royale Resort.

Adames (24-1-1, 18 KO), a former super welterweight prospect who broke through at middleweight following an upset loss to Patrick Teixeira, has not fought more than once in a calendar year since 2021. A thrashing of Juan Macias Montiel earned him the interim WBC title, which he defended against “J-Rock” Williams before the sanctioning body finally had enough of champion Jermall Charlo and elevated “Bronco” to take his place.

His two defenses have seen him cruise past Terrell Gausha and fight Hamzah Sheeraz to a contentious draw.

“Life doesn’t repeat opportunities – if you escaped once, consider it a miracle,” said Adames. “Destiny forgives once. After that, it collects. Not everyone gets two warnings. He already used one. Danger is coming to Orlando on March 21!”

Williams (20-1, 13 KO) looks to have rebuilt nicely since his own unfortunate run-in with Sheeraz, notably beating veteran Patrice Volny last year and last-minute replacement Wendy Toussaint a few weeks back. It’s unclear to me why he’s getting this opportunity when there’s an interim champion (Jesus Ramos) and mandatory challenger (Meiirim Nursultanov) in the way, but he figures to make for a quality scrap with Adames.

“The second Ammo Show will be electric,” said Williams. “This is the moment I become WBC Champion of the World and begin my reign. Ten years of dedication all boiling down to one night, don’t miss it!”

Per the press release, Olympians Omari Jones (5-0, 4 KO) and Teremoana Teremoana (9-0, 9 KO) will face the fearsome TBA Twins on the undercard.

Not really sure how Williams managed to jump to the head of the line to fight Adames in the first place but then had an uninspired effort against Toussaint after the Dominican withdrew from that initially scheduled bout. It must be "boxing politics," because Ramos Jr. is coming off a solid win over Mosley Jr. and his only loss is a questionable decision to Lubin in September 2023, while the undefeated Nursultanov is - was? - the mandatory but hasn't fought in more than two years.

Yoenis Tellez, Roberto Gomez, Jordan Orozco and Carlos De Leon Castro invade Matchroom Boxing show this month

Boxlab Promotions will once again showcase its growing stable of talented fighters as several of its rising stars return to the ring on the Matchroom Boxing card at the Caribe Royale Hotel in Orlando, Florida, on Saturday, March 21.

The event will air globally on DAZN and will be headlined by Austin “Ammo” Williams vs. Carlos Adames in a 12-round showdown for the WBC Middleweight World Title.

Boxlab Promotions will have a strong presence throughout the undercard, featuring four exciting matchups involving undefeated and highly regarded prospects who are eager to make a statement on the international stage.

Yoenis “El Bandolero” Tellez vs. Myles Mizell

One of the evening’s most compelling matchups will see Cuban super welterweight standout Yoenis “El Bandolero” Tellez (11-1, 8 KOs), take on undefeated rising prospect Myles Mizell (10-0, 3 KOs) in what promises to be a competitive and high-level 8-round clash. Tellez will look to impose his experience and skillset against the hungry and unbeaten Mizell. With both fighters eager to prove themselves, this bout has all the ingredients of a fan-friendly battle that could steal the show.

Roberto Gomez vs. Belmar Preciado

Unbeaten featherweight prospect Roberto Gomez (8-0, 3 KOs) will test his skills against the experienced Belmar Preciado (23-10-1, 16 KOs) in a matchup that pits youth against veteran savvy. Gomez has been steadily building momentum with impressive performances, displaying strong fundamentals and composure beyond his years. Preciado’s experience, however, could present challenges as Gomez continues his climb through the ranks.

Hard-hitting Nicaraguan, Jordan “La Cobrita” Orozco (15-0, 15 KOs), who just recently signed with Boxlab Promotions, returns to the ring following a breakout run that has seen him emerge as one of the most dangerous young fighters in the bantamweight division. Known for his relentless pressure and finishing ability, Orozco aims to deliver another electrifying performance.

Carlos De Leon Castro vs. Damian Alcala

Undefeated featherweight Carlos De Leon Castro (7-0, 6 KOs) continues his rapid development as he takes on Damian Alcala (8-7, 2 KOs). De Leon Castro has quickly gained attention for his exciting fighting style and aggressive approach in the ring. With each fight, the Puerto Rican prospect has demonstrated improved skill and confidence, making him one of Boxlab Promotions’ most promising young talents to watch.

'AMMO’ WILLIAMS HOPES TO FILL 'VOID' IN HIS CAREER BY UPSETTING ADAMES

Every masterpiece begins with a blank canvas.

In Carlos Adames, Austin "Ammo" Williams believes he has the perfect opportunity to deliver a career-best performance. Nearly two months after their bout was first scheduled, they will clash for Adames' WBC middleweight title Saturday on DAZN at Caribe Royale in Orlando (8 p.m. ET).

“He's in a void in my life,” Williams told The Ring. “He's a canvas for me. I want everything he has to offer. The aggression, skills [and] the experience. I want it all, the best Carlos Adames that night, because I truly feel that he is the greatest canvas for me."

“He'll push me in ways that allow me to show different parts of myself. He'll let me dig to a level of excitement of taking a world championship from someone.”

Adames and Williams were set to fight on The Ring VI at Madison Square Garden in New York on Jan. 31. Adames (24-1-1, 18 KOs) was hospitalized the day beforehand while cutting weight and subsequently pulled by his team.

The Elias Pina, Dominican Republic native hasn’t fought since his controversial split draw against Hamzah Sheeraz in February 2025.

Williams (20-1, 13 KOs), of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, outpointed Wendy Toussaint in a 10-round bout on the undercard, his second consecutive late-replacement opponent. He was also slated to face Etinosa Oliha in an IBF title eliminator July 19, but the French contender withdrew with an eye issue discovered during pre-fight medicals.

Williams faced Ivan Vazquez, his friend and former sparring partner, and won by ninth-round stoppage.

“You go from this energy of, ‘I'm about to take everything to I have everything to lose,’ because with the guys that I had to fight, if something went wrong for me, they could completely take everything from me,” Williams said of dynamic change with late replacements.

“People don't understand that's the mental side of the game, having to understand that everything can be taken from you.”

Williams has won four straight fights since his lone defeat, an 11th-round stoppage to Sheeraz (22-0-1, 18 KOs) in June 2024.

Williams, who played basketball before turning to boxing 10 years ago, earned arguably the most important win of his career at Caribe Royale when beating Patrice Volny by unanimous decision last March. One year later, he’s ready to reach the goal he’s worked toward since he began boxing.

“It's everything,” he said. “It's my entire life. I'm at this point getting ready for this fight, I’m just still more than anything. It's not really like a full-blown, extremely crazy, fast sprint to the finish. I'm just wading in the water, letting the time come because I know what's going to be on display.

“This doesn't boil down to a week or two, it's everything that I've done since I put my hands into a boxing glove.”

ADAMES ADDRESSES MORNING HE WITHDREW FROM ORIGINAL WILLIAMS FIGHT

Carlos Adames weighed 164 pounds when he woke up the morning of January 30 in New York.

There wasn’t anything abnormal about that for the WBC middleweight champion. Adames always sheds those final three or four pounds the morning he weighs in for fights at his division’s limit of 160 pounds.

Nothing that occurred thereafter was normal for the Dominican champion. Unbeknownst to Adames, he was so extremely dehydrated that it became physically impossible to cut those final four pounds.

His handlers had no choice but to remove him from his optional title defense against Austin “Ammo” Williams the next night on “The Ring 6” undercard at Madison Square Garden. A two-month training camp abruptly went to waste, Adames didn’t get paid and, perhaps worst of all, he had no idea why his body reacted the way it did following a productive training camp.

“It was really surprising what happened to me, really unexpected,” Adames told The Ring.

“I felt good leading up into fight week, really good. We were working on the weight cut. Then I went to the press conference [January 29]. Afterwards, I ate some chicken breast, salad and an orange then slept. I got up in the morning, it was time to make weight and I was around four pounds overweight. That's just normal to me, I normally cut three to four pounds [the day I weigh in], all that would [require] is a 45-minute run and I'm ready to go.”

“But when I started that 45-minute run, I started to have cramps all over my body. My abs were extremely sore as well. I wasn’t able to stand up straight. So, my team looked at me and said, ‘Listen, your health is first. We’re gonna go on and cancel the fight.’ I didn’t want to do that, but basically my body just wouldn’t give anymore.

“Unfortunately, that’s why we had to cancel the fight. The doctor said it would’ve been impossible for me to have put gloves on and fight because, at that time, my kidneys were about to collapse for a period of time because I was just so severely dehydrated.”

Milwaukee’s Williams defeated Wendy Toussaint (17-4, 7 KOs), Adames’ late replacement, by unanimous decision in a 10-round super middleweight match January 31.

After a doctor determined drinking more water and taking vitamins would enable Adames (24-1-1, 18 KOs) to make weight comfortably for his next fight, his team quickly rescheduled his bout with Williams (20-1, 13 KOs). They’ll fight Saturday night, just seven weeks after Adames’ disastrous trip to New York, in a 12-round main event DAZN will stream from Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida (8 p.m. ET).

Adames took three weeks off from training, but returned to the gym feeling fresh. The Ring’s No. 1 middleweight contender expects to knock out the eighth-ranked Williams in a fight DraftKings lists Adames as more than 3-1 favorite to win.

“I was really upset and really sorry that I wasn’t able to make good on my commitment to fight,” Adames said. “So, in terms of this second camp, we just had to lower the intensity to ensure that we don’t overtrain and don’t push beyond that limit, so that we go into the fight adequately prepared.”

'AMMO' WILLIAMS HAD 'PREMONITION' ADAMES WOULDN'T MAKE JAN. 31 FIGHT

As Austin "Ammo" Williams was working his way down to 160 pounds for his first world title shot, he could tell Carlos Adames was dealing with issues trying to make weight.

Williams successfully made weight, but not long after, he received soul-crushing news from his promoter, Matchroom Boxing chairman Eddie Hearn. Adames had been hospitalized due to weight cut complications and withdrew from the fight, so Williams’ first world title shot wouldn't come to fruition.

“I did have an idea that it probably wasn't going to go on,” Williams told The Ring. “We had to share the scale to see where you were that night, and they kept saying we needed to return the scale, be`cause Adames’ team needed it. Anytime somebody needs it multiple times throughout the night, you know they’re probably struggling.

“I had kind of a couple of premonitions about what was going on, but I thought they would still be professional and get it done.”

Just under two months later, they’re scheduled to do battle again in a 12-round bout for Adames’ WBC middleweight title on Saturday at Caribe Royale in Orlando on DAZN (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT).

While there’s no sugarcoating the heartache that comes with losing a world title opportunity at no fault of your own, Williams (20-1, 13 KOs) knew he couldn’t dwell on it and still had to handle business to land another shot. He also felt there was no way he could let an opportunity to fight at Madison Square Garden slip through his grasp.

The 29-year-old southpaw remained on the "Ring 6" card January 31 and beat Wendy Toussaint by unanimous decision in a 10-round super middleweight bout.

“It sucked, but I didn't feel as if I was hindered from performing,” Williams said. “I just felt like I needed to perform. That was the main thing, and then the talk that me and Eddie had, I knew that we would get the fight eventually.”

Adames (24-1-1, 18 KOs) will be fighting for the first time in over a year.

The Elias Pina, Dominican Republic, native last fought to a controversial split draw against Sheeraz (22-0-1, 18 KOs) in February 2025. Adames will be making his third title defense. Williams, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has won four straight fights since suffering his lone defeat, an 11th-round stoppage to Hamzah Sheeraz in June 2024.

With the fight being rescheduled and taking place in the same place where he earned the most important win of his career, a unanimous decision over Patrice Volny last March, Williams believes the stars have aligned for him to reach the pinnacle of his career on Saturday.

“I feel like I got momentum,” Williams said. “I'm just excited [and] happy everything is working in our favor, and for me to have a certain energy to take the World Championship.
“I know that I have that. I'm ready to fight, to give it everything I got.”

Austin Williams to Carlos Adames: ‘Bro, I am going to hurt you’

Austin Williams and his trainer, Kevin Cunningham, plan to turn a matchup with WBC middleweight titleholder Carlos Adames into a dogfight.

Williams-Adames will serve as the main event in Saturday’s card at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida.

The two were originally set to fight on the Teofimo Lopez Jnr-Shakur Stevenson undercard on January 31, but Adames had to withdraw on the day of the fight.

At Thursday’s final pre-fight press conference, Cunningham assured that the delay would mean Adames will face a more developed version of the 29-year-old Williams, who trains out of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

“The evolution of ‘Ammo’ is a continuous process,” Cunningham said. “I hope Adames is ready for a fight, because he is going to have to fight a dogfight.”

Cunningham praised Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn for finding a replacement opponent for Williams, who in January won a 10-round unanimous decision over Wendy Toussaint, with Toussaint taking the fight on a day’s notice. The fight allowed Williams to stay sharp and avoid what would have been an eight-month layoff.

“We know what we are here for,” Cunningham said. “Adames is not going to give his title away; we've got to take it.”

Adames, a 31-year-old Dominican who trains in Las Vegas, didn’t take kindly to the strong words.

“If you want to rip that title away from me, you need to be sure that you have conditions to be able to do that,” Adames said.

Adverse conditions kept Adames from keeping his defense with Williams back in January, when extreme dehydration forced the belt holder to bow out.

“It was a surprise for me and my team,” Adames said via a translator. “We were 100 per cent prepared, but my body wouldn’t respond at that time.”

Williams wanted to hear none of it at Thursday’s presser.

“This dude, a day before he pulled out of the fight, was saying easy work for the fight,” Williams said. “Then, the next day, he was so sick that he had to call 9-1-1.”

Williams called Adames soft and continued to question why he pulled out of the original bout.

“It is very easy to speak when you are in front of a microphone, but I do my talking in the ring,” Adames said. “If that's what you think, let’s do it right now.”

Adames most recently fought in February 2025, making a title defense against Hamzah Sheeraz in a bout that was scored a majority draw. Adames will be making the third defense of his title after being elevated from interim titleholder. Williams is on a four-fight win streak since being knocked out by Sheeraz.

“It is going to be a real fight,” Williams said. “It is no thinking. I am just going to fight him. We are really going to fight. … Bro, I am going to hurt you.”

This Omari Jones kid is pretty sharp. He's gonna be a problem at 154 and Middleweight for a while to come. He might grow into a full fledged Middleweight by the time he is competing for titles, but I suspect he'll be competing for titles in the not too distant future.

Right now I got this 3-1 for Williams, but a stoppage victory for Adames feels inevitable anyhow.

He dropped Williams in the 2nd round, and has noticeably moved him with body punches, and any clean head shots that get through. He's patient while Williams is burning a lot of energy.

I have Williams up after 4, but I don't see it lasting.

Strong round for Adames in the 5th. Felt like a momentum shift. Williams was fighting at a fast pace, and burning up a lot of nervous energy early especially after getting dropped in that 2nd round. Adames has been cool and collected the whole time, and now he's starting to come on. I think he's gonna start piling up the rounds here.

3-2, but the score is 47-47 due the knockdown in the 2nd.
