examples of beating the faster and harder puncher

Post by margaret thatcher »

someone said to me the other day, that you can beat a faster guy or a harder hitting guy, but you cant beat someone who is faster and harder hitting

while probably most of the time you'll win if you are faster and harder hitting, it's hardly a lock. the faster/harder hitter could gas themselves, have awful defence and get caught too much, could be chinny, could be a far less accurate puncher with worse timing etc.

i remember old version of bernard hopkins, who had slowed a lot, beating the faster and harder punching jean pascal

you have any examples?

Winky Wright vs Mosley is unique in the sense that Mosley probably was indeed the harder and faster puncher, but Wright was certainly the physically stronger man in terms of just physicality, and being able to move your opponent around the ring and so forth.

It seems like for the most part the kinda guy that's going to beat a fighter who has speed and power on him is a relentless pressure fighter who's going to get inside on you a lot, and smother your attack.

There's bound to have been other guys that outboxed people just due to superior timing or what have you though.

Kambosos didn't really have speed or power on Teofimo did he?

Carl Froch beat Jean Pascal, Jermain Taylor, Lucian Bute, Mikkel Kessler and George Groves. All of them were faster than him and IMO hits harder, despite Froch being hard puncher himself. Also not sure if Artur Abraham was slower than Froch. Lot of those guys also had better boxing technique than Froch. It is crazy how far his toughness got him with such limited boxing skills. Some of those clean bombs he took right to the chin would do KO of the year on some other boxers.

Suppose it depends how speed is being measured really. Wilder could be ponderous one minute, then rapidly windmilling the next

Yep, on the world stage Forrest v Mosely instantly springs to mind. Very effective use of the jab by Forrest.

On the home front Kevin McIntyre beating Kevin Anderson....twice. Big difference in power, maybe less so in speed. That result shocked me...twice !

Most recent one for me was Joe Joyce beating DD. DD punches way harder than Joyce and most heavyweights in the divsion are faster than him.
