Ali wins by retirement
I took the chance this morning to rewatch the fight. That would be 135-133 at the time of the retirement, with Ali up by two points. That is 7-5-2 in rounds. It was 5-5-2 after 12 rounds, with Ali taking both the 13th and the 14th rounds. Slightly closer than I had it the last time I saw it, but still with Frazier down by two rounds at the time of the retirement.

Re: Post Your Scorecards
I just watched the WBA Heavyweight Championship fight between Tony Tubbs and Tim Witherspoon again. What a ferocious war. It is a very difficult fight to score and it is very close. My card ended up going to Witherspoon, by a single point, which aligns with the decision, which was a Majority decision in his favor. Had Tubbs just boxed Witherspoon more he would have taken the decision, I think. When he boxed and used his skill, I felt as though he was winning. He ended up narrowly losing this fight coming out the slightly worse in the litany of exchanges in this fight, as the punch stats reflect. This fight kicked off the Heavyweight unification series of ‘86-‘87.

One of my all-time favorite fights. The first Ward-Kovalev fight. I just watched it again for the second time. The first time I scored it 115-112 to Ward, but I don’t recall how exactly the rounds broke. I just watched it again and rescored it 114-113 for Ward. Just an epic and brilliant fight.

That is how I scored it. Liston won the round where Ali could not see. That was it. The rounds were easy to score. Yet one judge had it even and one had Liston up by three points. Always wondering what people were watching.

Ali completely outclassed Liston in the first round. The second was close, but I still gave it to Ali. I thought that Ali took the third pretty clearly, with the fourth again being a shade closer, but I gave to Ali on the basis of his combinations and outlanding Liston. Ali just moved in the fifth, as he couldn’t see and the sixth was not close, with Ali cutting Liston up pretty badly.

According to the boxrec database, it was scored on the 10 point must: https://boxrec.com/wiki/index.php/Sonny ... t_meeting)2354595 wrote: ↑10 Mar 2026, 19:54I have the same card as you.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑10 Mar 2026, 19:24 Yeah.

I didn't score it as I watched, but I did watch that one back a while back. It was definitely a lot closer than their rematch was. Duran had a close fight with a little known guy named Jeff Lanas as well.
