Goodwin boxing promotions

Post by Glass Joe »

After 16 years of putting on top class events and building careers within those, Goodwin Boxing have decided to ring the bell for the final time.

A family run boxing company, Goodwin Boxing have been at the forefront of small hall boxing in the U.K. With the aim of running a single show with Olivia in 2010 Steve Goodwin has gone on to be a promoter, matchmaker and manager for hundreds of shows. It is with the assistance of Olivia, son Josh a devoted wife and many friends including Alan and Amey that the organisation has thrived, putting on shows around the country, working alongside people such as David Haye in his comeback fights at the O2 but settling into the spiritual home of York Hall.

Goodwin Boxing have made a reputation for building special events in Bethnal Green but it is the reputation for helping build careers at all levels , from journeymen to world champions that they may be best regarded by those in the sport.

“ We have had a great run” said Steve Goodwin. The sport has given us so much and I like to think we have given back. We perhaps never got the opportunities that we deserved to take our product to a bigger platform but that’s ok. What is more important is the lives we have helped through the sport, the relationships we have built and the memories we have made for ourselves and also for the thousands of people who have paid the money to come to our shows. We hope they all enjoyed them as much as us and continue to support the sport and the boxers on their journeys”

While stepping away from the sport, Steve will continue to manage a small number of boxers through their contracts that really need him the most.

“It is the right time to leave. I have a thriving financial advisory company, which has always been by day to day business and has enabled us to pursue our love for boxing, and our family is expanding. I look forward to the time I will get back to spend more time with my wife and family and devote to my other passions in life and want to thank all the good people we have collaborated in the sport. For us now the show is over.”

Thanks for your service Steve :salut:

Sign of the times I think, small hall boxing does seems a bit dead to me down south. Seems a bit more popular north west. I dont go to small hall anymore. I go to small hall wrestling shows instead, that's probably just me.

Sad to see Steve definitely wasn’t in it for the money. Wishing him all the best for the future

Huge thanks to Steve and family for your service to the sport.

Many many years ago I was on the train from Euston going back to Harrow Weald Steve was sat there with his family talking boxing. I was close to coming over but didn't want to intrude.

Absolute credit to the sport wish you and family all the very best for the future.
