Fights switching places and other odd jumps

Could someone in the know explain why fights will switch places? For instance, today, in the Heavyweight division, Maskaev and Mayfield switched places, even though neither fighter was active. I have also scene fighters go up a notch without fighting.

Does this reflect their opponent’s records? As there opponents get better/worse, their rankings are then affected?

Any insight would be appreciated!

It has to do with other fights being entered in the past that affect a fighter's rating, since the ratings are ran against every bout in the database. Usually this happens when fighters are very close in total points.
