Re: Sonny Liston/filmed fights 1966-1970
Here is a link to some high-lights of Liston's comeback fight of July 1966 some 14 months after after the debacle in Lewiston Maine .
In it he looks really rusty ,almost like he couldnt hit the backside of a barn door with some of the punches he had thrown.
(unless he was trying to miss on purpose?)

Sooo, i dont get it. You attack me for having this footage that you, in your ignorance, thought you discovered because i didnt post it online for free? You posted a link to youtube for a film someone else shot, some else converted, someone else found, someone else digitized, and someone else posted on youtube. What exactly do you want credit for? Lol.

Perhaps it was Gerhard Zech's southpaw stance that caused Liston to miss so many punches in that fight?ironfish wrote:cool footage never seen this before thanksCaractacus wrote:Here is a link to some high-lights of Liston's comeback fight of July 1966 some 14 months after after the debacle in Lewiston Maine .

BTW What was Sonny Liston's record against southpaws anyway?

But the more I watch it ,the "fakeier" it looks.
notice all the different film camera angles for a 8mm "home-made" film from the audience?
(unless it was televised in Mexico)
for some reason it sort of reminds me a lot of his fight with Eddie Machen.
( the way the one dude seems to be "wrassling" with Liston in the center of the ring-who does that ?
you don't suppose it could be "AI" manufactured do you ?
(Liston looks kinda really thin and "peppy" for a 36 years old (?) man in it if you were to arsk me)
just been wondering tho what would ole "Il Duce" say about it, if he's still around to see it (?)

At 3:12 seconds into the clip ? yeah, it sure does look like the one photograph of the Liston vrs Billy JoinerBrutu wrote: ↑10 Jul 2010, 03:31 That does look to be the first Liston vrs Billy Joiner fight
May.23.1968 at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles
here at
3:12 seconds of this clip.
It looks like it was filmed with an amateur 8 mm camera
from the audience.
It matches photgraphs Ive seen of the fight.
Liston knocked Joiner down in the third round with a left hook and a short right
to Joiners head ,but Joiner got back up and slugged it out toe to toe.
the ref stoped the fight after Joiner went back to his corner
after the 7th round because he was too far behind on points .
fight that I've seen too.

45th pro fight Saturday July-6-1968 Cow Palace Daly City California.
(btw Martin Luther King jr had been killed just three months earlier(April 4th)
and Robert F. Kennedy (June 4th) just a month earlier , that may be why there is a sense of heaviness in the air)
