Hey dumbass...
NICE CLASSY SITE YOU GUYS HAVE HERE... yea sounds like he wants to be classed as british... Fcuk off you douche bagBoxRec has come under recent criticism for it listing of John Duddy is a British boxer when in fact Duddy holds Irish nationality. Duddy's nationality was initially listed on the website as Irish, however, after a number of knockout wins by Duddy his nationality was then altered by the British run website to British. Clan Duddy, which is the management team of John Duddy, contacted BoxRec to inform the website of the correct details Duddy's nationality however BoxRec still refused to alter Duddy's nationality. Members who discuss Duddy's nationality on the Boxrec forum have been threatened with expulsion and many of the threads outlining the details of Duddy's nationality have been altered or deleted on the website

There must be a 1000 posts on this subject already.
The political reality is that the Good Friday Agreement laid the framework, whereby anyone in the political divide can be classed as British or Irish. This has been endorsed in International Law and Nationalist/Republican members of that community can apply for an Irish passport, thus their status is then Irish. This is the simple fact and no other debate is necessary. John Duddy has an Irish passport therefore he is Irish. That should be the end of it.
This is the best boxing website on the internet and has a forum to match and I am baffled as to why boxrec are dragging their heals over what should be, from their standpoint as a boxing forum, a trivial matter.

Take him,we don't want or need him!!!
You lot certainly do!!!!! I mean, the Irish are a bit thin on fighters are'nt they? Please,by all means have him.
If Boxrec choose to list him as British, then thats their choice.
It ain't as if the British posters on here or British fight fans in general are clambering for Duddy to be labelled British is it?

Boxing wise, because he was born in Northern Ireland Duddy can fight for the British title if he wishes, and also the Irish title. While the Irish title is a "nice to have" the bigger prestige and money lie with the British title. Then again, given that he is US based perhaps the British or European titles are of little interest to him, though they are probably worth more that IBA or Continental belts!
Politics wise.... Hey! I split my time between England and Ireland, and I can tell you that most people in Ireland don't care - just like with Barry McGuigan, they just want to see the lad do well. I'm not aware of Duddy having any strong views on the subject, but if he does, that's up to him.

Some comment from Duddy (the refenceto his uncle relates to the Bloody Sunday shootings in 1972 when he (uncle) was one of the victims)
'My father never talked at length about my uncle when I was growing up. It wasn't a political home. We were taught to treat people with respect regardless of race, creed, or colour. My uncle's death was a tragedy, but it happened years before I was born.'
Then, in response to a question, Duddy adds: 'My roots run deep. I feel at home in America, but I'm a guest here. My home will always be in Ireland. I'm not Irish-American. I'm an Irishman who's living now in New York.'

Whats on the man's birth certificate?
I'm Scottish but live Poland, some years from now i will have the option to claim Polish nationality if i want (which i dont) but, if i did, would that make me Polish? Would it fcuk!
As far as i'm concerned if your from Ireland (north or south) your Irish, and if your from Scotland, England or Wales thats your nationality. I've never claimed to be British and never will.
No fans (that i have seen) are claiming Duddy to be British, so who gives a flying monkey's cock what's on the Boxrec record.

When you say 'you' I hope that you dont think this MERC character is either Irish or representative of the Irish community. He icleary a septic tank who once had a pint of Guiness and is in search of an identity to call his own.yiddo14 wrote:Take him,we don't want or need him!!!

Whilst I respect Duddy's right to envoke his Irish nationality (he is from from the Nationalist heartland of Derry after all!) please don't lump all Irish in with this MERC 'douche bag' (...I didnt even think americans used this term, shows you what I know!)

Ireland's greatest export has always been its people so there are plenty of Irish fighters, despite Ireland itself having a small population of some 3.5m

I have never been one to buy into all the "I'am second/third generation Irish/Scottish/English nonsense" It means nothing, especially in boxing.TerribleTerry wrote:Also yiddo Irish fighters and fighters of direct Irish decent are far from 'thin on the ground'.yiddo14 wrote:Take him,we don't want or need him!!!

The country you are born and raised in,is what matters most to me.
As for boxers from Ireland, sure there have been some great fighters from the emerald isle, but in terms of current modern day,top class fighters, they just don't seem to produce much, thats why I said 'the Irish are welcome to him'(tongue in cheek by the way)
To me John Duddy is a Northern Irishman.
This may make him a Brit to some, but being British means diddly squat to most people these days.I for one, consider myself English, not British.
