There are clearly cultural and language etc links between us and the yanks but this idea of a special relationship is pure bollocks, America doesn't have friends it has interests, It's stitched us up loads of times since WWII, it invoked the Mahon act and wouldn't let us have the bomb even though we developed it alongside them, they didn't even want to give us Marshall Aid money until JM Keynes bluffed them and said the new incoming Labour government was full of commies and Britain would become an Ally of the Soviet Union if they didn't cough up, then there was Suez, TSR2, Black Arrow, even the Falklands, if it wasn't for 2 outspoken Anglophiles in Reagan's cabinet [James Baker and Casper Weinberger] they probably would have tacitly supported the right wing CIA installed junta in Buenos Aries in that conflict.
