I disagree, 175lbs is only 12 and a half stone, that’s pretty small. The average man in the UK is over 13 stone. There are plenty of fighters who were decent CWs but wouldn’t fight HWs as they were too small. To have such a huge gulf between the two wouldn’t be fair at all.

Does anyone really pay attention to the tiny weights? Thats irrelevant, you have guys who are decent at CW but would never be decent at HW. Most CWs never fight at HW, only the very best have success.

To answer the thread question about Willie Hutchinson I think he's one of them guys that will pull some upsets in his career with his awkward style, but I don't look for him to be a dominant Champion or anything in the sport. He kinda fights like Tyson Fury if you took 100 pounds and 6 or 7 inches off of him, and I think the 100 pounds and extra inches is a big part of the reason why Tyson Fury gets away with the style he's had.

As we know boxing isn't black and white. Lots of variables why some opponents are picked, the timing of when they picked, how good they are etc. Plus don't forget RJJ is often suspected of having extra "help". One result like this doesn't equate to scrapping the CW division.

How many people thought SRL would beat Hagler or Canelo would beat Kovalev. Fighters can have success out of their natural weight class. I'm sure Chris Billam-Smith could get a few wins at HW against the right opponents but does that then mean he's good enough to mix with the best? He's certainly weighed over 200lbs in some fights as did Johnny Nelson but there's a reason why they mainly stayed at CW along with guys like Carlos DeLeon, Qawi etc.. Nelson and CBS are bigger than many of the HWs from decades ago too.

I'm fine with keeping the Cruiserweight division. Making the Heavyweight limit 220 pounds I have a big problem with.

I personally would rid Boxing of all the Jr. divisions keeping only Cruiserweight and Strawweight of the additional weight classes as I think those are the only ones needed.

I'd also split the difference between the old Cruiserweight limit and the new one, and make it 195 pounds if it were up to me, but of course it's not. Ultimately the Cruiserweight division is just kinda a footnote so it doesn't much matter what the weight limit is as long as it's no more than 200.

I agree with your general point but specifically with regards to Canelo Kovalev, a fight which has always annoyed me …… Kova lost because, as an older fighter who hadn’t lived the life, Canelo’s people ensured he had very little time to rest and prepare for their fight after he had gone through a tough battle with Yarde
