In early 2022, when Lomachenko declined the offer to fight Kambosos due to a war in Ukraine, Kambosos had a lot of options thrown at him. And being the unified champ at the time, he had a privilege to choose his next opponent.
I remember, there was an option for him to make a voluntary title defense and I wanted him to choose another Ukrainian in Berinchyk (who was ranked WBO #3 at the time, Olympic Silver Medalist and a future champ).
However, Kambosos opted to go the tough route and chose Haney (the full WBC champ at the time).
