Strait was open before they started bombing Iran though.

It's not as if Iran blocked it, then the war began.

The White House has declared victory in the war it started in Iran, saying it has achieved its objectives of spending tens of billions of dollars and causing thousands of deaths in order to return things to roughly as they were before the war started, at least for the next two weeks.
“The Straight of Hormuz is open, Khamenei is the Ayatollah and Iran still has nuclear materials,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement that could have been read out this morning or three months ago.
Leavitt praised President Donald Trump for his ability to broker peace. “There was peace before. Then for some reason there wasn’t. And now there is peace again. Give this man the Nobel Prize,” she said.
One Republican Senator said no-one should ever underestimate Trump again. “Yes, we have spent valuable resources and lost precious lives, yes we have emboldened Iranian leaders and caused a whole new generation of Iranians to despise us, yes we have alienated our allies and caused economic harm across the globe. But let us not forget that the trade route that no one had ever heard of before because it operated without issue for decades, is now operating without issue. Or it will soon, with maybe some minor issues, we haven’t really gone through all the details yet. That is what victory looks like”.

The US Govt saying its received the the 10 point peace plan and that it is 'workable', is complete BS.

They won't accept any of that and will start fighting again, blaming Iran by saying that they (the US) 'tried' to negotiate but it failed. Its just a farce to buy some time.

Going to go out on a limb and say that after they start fighting again, they (the US) will again try to land troops on the coasts of Iran, after failing the first time.

They probably will succeed but then will get completely blitzed, with a lot more American troops dying.

It's not as if Iran blocked it, then the war began.

Well they closed it because they're supreme leader got toasted along with their navy and air force. Now under the threat of having their oil smoked they re-opened it.

A big loss for Iran, lefties gutted they've folded like a pack of cards. Better luck next time.

Hilarious wishful thinking.

Iran still in total control of the straits, same regime in place, and a new set of demands.

America has spent tens of billions and has achieved nothing.

The likely outcome is Iran will tighten it's strangehold on the straits, they have demonstrated, that they can exert a stranglehold on the global economy, simply by shutting the straits.

A complete shut of the straits is actually easy to achieve, as there are very shallow sections neccessary for navitgation, which a few sunken ships would completely block.

America has done huge damage to it's reputation and also it's ability to affect change - it is very reminiscent of the Suez Crisis, that marked the effective end of the British as a major force in international affairs.

Iranian people have paid a terrible price, and lasting damage has been done to the regime for sure, but they are still there, despite a massive assault by both the US and Israel. That from their perspective is a win.

I doubt this ceasefire will last, Israel certainly doesn't want one, they want to keep on savaging Iran for as long as possible.

The US has damaged it's reputation massively, especially with it's gulf partners, whom it was unable to protect effectively from Iranian missile attacks - the same is true of Netanyahu, who comes out of this looking weaker, as there has been widespread destruction and deaths in Israel.

Whilst America and Israel have demonstrated what we already knew, that they have massive firepower - Iran has shown they can cause massive damage to the global economy, and if they targeted civilian infrastructure in the US's gulf partners, could cause huge upheaval, especially if they were to target desalination plants, which are vital to the continued occupation of most of those countries.

I'm no fan of the Iranian regime as is, but the idea this is a win for the US, is braindead.

Ricky is off his head - everything in his mind is about left and right in his world.

Even republican commentators are saying that Trump has made a fool of himself and achieved nothing.

Whilst Iran might be hurting, America is worse off that it was before the war, - there was no credible threat whatsoever, even the US's own intelligence services said so, so other than effecting regime change, there was no benefit to the war, perhaps seizing control of the strait of Hormuz? Nope, that neither.

Iran has now learned that their control of the waterway, is as good as having nukes, in that it can create economic apocalypse for it's enemies in the gulf and their allies.

In the meantime, China looks more and more like a dependable safe pair of hands, for those becoming increasingly frustrated with the chaos and unreliability of their US allies - throughout Europe, the gulf and the global south.

Trumps bellicosity, will be the undoing of America. Whilst bullying might cow your neighbours in the short term, in the long term, they will look for partners who can support them against a marauding and unpredictable neighbour.

I'm not. If Trump can save face by somehow spinning this as a win, I'll take it any day of the week. I don't see how the negotiations can succeed though. Can Iran be allowed to end up controlling the Strait of Hormuz and running it like a toll booth, basically controlling the world economy? Seems unlikely.

The majority on here (bar a couple of Trump fanatics) are against the war with Iran, that's been plain to see.
Correctly predicting he's TACO doesn't mean they wanted him to 'destroy a civilisation'. Time to get over the criticism of Twumpy.

Yes those with TDS have got behind the Iranian regime and now they're licking their wounds. Thry backed another loser. Trump's battered them from pillar to post, they pushed back a little ny closing the Strait but now they've folded like a deck chair and there's nothing for the TDS crowd to hang a hat on, the whole thing will probably be forgotten about in a couple of weeks like Venezuela. I look forward to seeing what they lose the rag over next

He does but probably wants this to end and go away, as its taking him down.

However the Deep State and Oligarchs, who are neither 'Left' or 'Right' supporters (some people are still naively obsessed with this left / right concept), will not let him walk away.

It will kick off again, probably in less than 2 weeks. Iran will be blamed and the US and the Zionists will go again.

Iran also know this and will be ready.
