Re: Thoughts on Gareth A Davies
Personalities aside, Bunce and Davies are worlds apart in terms of boxing knowledge.
Bunce knows the sport - and everyone in it - inside out. Amateur and pro. He has been immersed in boxing all of his life.
He’s not really interested in the glamour. He’ll report at any level of the sport and give as much time to an area champ as he would a world champion.

I know, a bizarre thing to say, I can only assume he thought he was being funny but not the sort of thing to joke aboutpaultom wrote: ↑08 Apr 2026, 13:21He said he found the video of her dying in font of the camera, 'entertaining'Controversial wrote: ↑08 Apr 2026, 12:47I like Bunce however I did see an old clip of him talking about Jade Goody which wasn't a good look.veriton wrote: ↑08 Apr 2026, 12:05 I really like Bunce, always have. His written word is superb and he has made a lifelong living out of boxing media, which can't have been easy. He's a proper journalist, even if he has to wax it a bit to stay afloat.
As for Gareth A Davies, I've just never been able to take him seriously. He's seems a try-hard, desperate to be a character but just feels more like an uncle having a mid life crisis.

gareth gets some good interviews and always champions the fighting arts whenever he can. for that i appreciate him. he rubs people up the wrong way, but then, boxing fans as a whole are by far the most fickle and bitchiest, so its horses for courses.
Re: Thoughts on Gareth A Davies
Gareth has been around for a whole... i remember him aoeFrostieballs wrote: ↑08 Apr 2026, 04:08He defo was James. I used to send him copy and badger him for coverage from about 2001 onwards. Not that he would remember me.jameswilson wrote: ↑08 Apr 2026, 03:26Yeah he definitely wasn’t around when I started posting on here around 2003.MightyWarrior wrote: ↑08 Apr 2026, 03:21 Think he’s only been around the sport a short while, probably around the time when Anthony Joshua came on the scene, before that I’m pretty sure he was a fencing journalist, then jumped on the boxing bandwagon and re invented himself as a long-time “boxing expert”.
A ridiculous figure not to be taken seriously at all
He has that horrendous pomposity in his voice as well, a lot of the journalists and pundits who aren’t ex boxers at least seem to have a level of humbleness or respect in their demeanour.
I remember when IFL came on the scene and I think it was the first time they went to Vegas for whoever it was and Davies was there making out like ‘I’ll show you how media week is here in America I’ve done it for ages.’ And as we’ve both said above he hasn’t been on the boxing scene for that long at all.
Think he got into boxing mid-90's. Did a mix of sport before that, including croquet, but mostly footie I think.
Always being around when i was part of ricky hatton team
For the urango and Castillo fights in vegss

I wouldn't imagine he'd have been snowed under with work covering that.
Croquet's loss is boxing's gain I guess

He tells the lot on a Dodge Woodhall podcast. The reason for the 'A' in his name, his background and his divorce due to his adultery.
