Justis Huni latest fight

Post by Grant »

Hi all, just wondering if anyone can judge whether his latest fight was a good win career wise? Frazer Clarke appears to me to be a solid Domestic (British) fighter but hardly top 15 or 20 and Justis managed a very close decision. Should we lower our expectations of him based on that performance do you think?

Clarke is a big unit who won an Olympic bronze medal so he had a good amateur career. Sure he lost to Wardley who is up towards the top of the heavyweights. So Clarke is better than domestic level. And the scores made it close but Justice won that fight pretty well. All rounds were competitive but I thought maybe 8-2 or 7-3. Eddie raves about Teramouana but Justice has fought better opponents and is in the box seat.

clarke lost a british title fight to jaime tsekshiva recently too, a guy who was splattered on the same card. that result doesnt really suggest he's beyond british domestic level

Yes that can happen. He looked okay yesterday so if they were to do it again, it could be a different story. Everyone can have a bad night. Heavyweight so you never know. Before Wardley got him they fought to a draw. So funny things happen.

When Joseph Parker returns to the sport I think it'd be interesting if he wound up fighting Justis Huni at some point in the near future. Kinda see if Parker can hold down his place as the best Heavyweight from that part of the globe, and on top of that we'd have every reason to expect a competitive and well matched contest.

It'd be Huni trying to ascend into the Top 10, and Parker trying to maintain his position within it. I like that matchup a lot come to think of it. I hope someone else has a similar plan.

And not saying Clarke would win a world title. I just think he’s a bit better than domestic level even know he got beat by a domestic level fighter. Could’ve been a bad night and got caught I don’t know. Maybe he is pretty shit but I think he’s a bit better than that.

I thought Huni won decisively. Huni's new trainer has changed him a bit and I don't think for the better. Less combinations and seemed to be sitting down on his punches more.
Just didn't look as good to me as the first nine rounds against Wardley. Anyone know who the new trainer is.

Styles makes fights, Huni was winning easily against Wardley, but it looks like he is susceptible to a big punch.
His boxing ability will make him a difficult night against most
Chin and big boy strength is ultimately a worry though

an aside, i saw callum peters is fighting joeshon james on the undercard of nikita's next fight, that is a big step for a guy who only been pro for 1 year. james has beaten/drew with some good prospects who like peters had a deep amateur careers, peters isnt the first opponent like this for him. if peters can do a job on him already at this stage its a very good result, only lester martinez (drew for a world title) beat james. this fight shows some confidence in peters

peters has looked good offensively, just keeps the punches flowing non stop but gets caught a bit much . entertaining fighter

I wholeheartedly agree with you. While James certainly isn't considered gatekeeper (not that you wrote or even implied that), this bout will be a big test for Peters at this point in his career. I applaud young fighters who push themselves rather than continually take baby steps and are still a developing prospect with a record of 25-0.
