Round-by-Round: Naoya Inoue vs. Junto Nakatani | DAZN - 2 May 2026
Re: Round-by-Round: Naoya Inoue vs. Junto Nakatani | DAZN - May 2, 2026
The Monster came out from under the bed in the 11th. Big round for Inoue in the 11th and he needed it.
7-4 Inoue

The damn cut looks like it took something from Nakatani, he was just surviving for most of the 11th. Excellent response from Inoue to be fair.

12th round could've went either way. Could be a closer decision here.
Anything from 116-112 Inoue or 114-114 seems possible.

116 - 112 Inoue, competitive bout, if there will not be a rematch, Junto is surely poised to follow Naoya as Japan's number one in the coming years.

The right man won
Such a shame for Naka that the cut came just when he was looking like he was taking control

Or take this division over should Inoue move up again. If he can do that I could see him building up the desire for a rematch in a few years. Though I wouldn't mind one even now honestly, but I'd rather see Inoue vs Bam first.

Inoue was class in the 11th, properly closed the show when he needed it.

Inoue didn’t really look p4p tonight I thought. Maybe they cancelled each other out a little bit
Re: Round-by-Round: Naoya Inoue vs. Junto Nakatani | DAZN - May 2, 2026
I can't think of too many occasions when 2 P4P type talents meet, and someone dominates. The fact that he found a 2nd wind when he needed to and took the momentum back over the final few rounds was huge I thought, and definitely an indication of greatness.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑02 May 2026, 10:15 Inoue didn’t really look p4p tonight I thought. In recent memory it was a bit Usyk v Joshua II that round. Mark of a champion.gilgamesh wrote: ↑02 May 2026, 10:34I can't think of too many occasions when 2 P4P type talents meet, and someone dominates. Re: Round-by-Round: Naoya Inoue vs. Junto Nakatani | DAZN - May 2, 2026
115-113 Inoue, bit of a slow burner, first half was cagey, neither man was taking many chances, Inoue stepping in with that hard jab, Nakatani a bit too reactive,, not much to go on but second half things opened up, Nakatani began letting his hands go more and catching Inoue with some cracking left hands and right hooks, rounds 9 and 10 Nakatani had Inoue looking as troubled as I've seen him ever, he was taking hard clean shots to the head, there wasn't much body work from either although Inoue had a few straight shots downstairs, the cut in the 10th clearly had an effect of Nakatani though, it stopped his momentum and Inoue capitalized and finished like a champ, not a classic in the traditional sense but always intriguing nonetheless, Inoue earned that one

Re: Round-by-Round: Naoya Inoue vs. Junto Nakatani | DAZN - May 2, 2026
So am I the only one who didn't score it that close? I had it 118-111 Inoue with one 10-10 round, Nakatani winning rounds 9 and 10. And don't get me wrong, for the most part I thought it was a close-ish fight, but I think Inoue got the better of them close rounds. Honestly I feel like a lot of people score close rounds on false reasoning, letting that psychology get in the way, that when a fight is looking close you'll have to score it fifty-fifty and forgetting the fact you only have to win 51 per cent of the rounds and still be able to win a fight 120-108.
Not the best match I've ever seen but a historical one and a rarity in our times in the sense that two of the very best actually risked their 0s. Nothing new to Inoue though, he is an absolute great one. Nakatani also clearly top tier material, I just haven't really followed his career.

He was OK today, Barry Jones is gold as always, nailed it on how Junto would be feeling after the fight.Sweet Dick Willie wrote: ↑02 May 2026, 12:52 And I don't understand why you guys hate Adam Smith so much![]()

Monster won a lot of rounds by very little, I'm surprised there wasn't a 118-110 in there.
Re: Round-by-Round: Naoya Inoue vs. Junto Nakatani | DAZN - May 2, 2026
Finally caught up with this, second half of the fight was terrific but the head clash took the momentum away from Junto, but Inoue is a class operator and deserved the decision.
And I felt sorry for Barry Jones having to deal with the borderline autistic Smith's incessant, ill judged waffle.

Say what you want about Smith, he managed to get from Tokyo to Wolverhampton in an afternoon, not bad going really. Must have had a taxi waiting in Japan to take him straight to the airport.
