Karen Chukhadzhian-Paddy Donovan IBF title eliminator ordered

The welterweight division continues to have Karen problems.

Boxing Scene has confirmed that the IBF has called for final elimination contest between Karen Chukhadzhian and Paddy Donovan, its two highest rated available contenders. A 15-day negotiation period was assigned for the proposed matchup, with the two sides required to reach a deal by March 5 to avoid a purse bid hearing.

Ukraine’s Chukhadzhian, 26-3 (14 KOs) is represented by P2M-Box Promotion, while Ireland’s Donovan, 14-2 (11 KOs) is promoted by Matchroom Boxing.

The winner will become the sanctioning body’s next mandatory challenger. Its current titlist, Lewis Crocker, 22-0 (11 KOs), is already due to face Australia’s Liam Paro, 27-1 (16 KOs) this spring in either Brisbane or on the Gold Coast.

Donovan was previously in line to face Paro in a sanctioned final eliminator earlier this year. The bout was scrapped, however, when the Limerick native fell ill during training camp and was forced to withdraw on short notice.

Given the timing, the IBF ruled to advance Paro – the sanctioning body’s No. 2 contender at 147 – to the mandatory slot.

The development has left Donovan out of the ring since his own two-fight set with Belfast’s Crocker. Their pair of 2025 bouts represent the lone two defeats on Donovan’s ledger. He was ahead on all three scorecards (69-63, 69-63, 67-65) and legitimately floored Crocker in the 8th round of their March 1 meeting.

However, it was the second knockdown that cost him the fight and his perfect record.

Donovan floored Crocker with a right hook, marginally after the bell sounded. Referee Marcus McDonnell was out of position to properly separate them at the time, but the in-ring ruling was that Donovan failed to honor the verbal command, thus resulting in the disqualification verdict.

Crocker won their September 13 rematch via split decision to claim the vacant IBF title. Donovan was floored twice, which provided the margin of victory for his bitter rival (114-112 and 114-113 Crocker, 115-111 Donovan).

The Andy Lee-trained Donovan had stopped each of his previous five opponents before the pair of fights with Crocker in Belfast.

Chukhadzhian continues to remain in the title frame even after twice falling short on that stage.

The 29-year-old contender was outpointed by then-IBF 147lbs titleholder Jaron “Boots” Ennis in January 2023 and again in their October 2024 rematch – both fights representing his lone trips to the U.S., or anywhere outside of Europe.

Chukhadzhian’s first setback to Ennis snapped a 20-fight win streak after suffering a split decision defeat in just his second pro contest – which came on his first night as a pro boxer, as part of a one-day, Super 8 knockout tournament.

Following the first meeting with Ennis, Chukhadzhian won three straight contests. The most significant was his May 2024 points victory over Harry Scarff in a sanctioned IBF eliminator. It put him right back in Ennis’ sights and subsequently led to P2M securing the promotional rights to the rematch after outbidding Matchroom.

However, the fight fell back into Matchroom’s hands, which resulted in a home game for Philadelphia’s Ennis. Their second meeting saw Chukhadzhian suffer a 5th round knockdown but also push Ennis, only to once again fall well short on the final scorecards.

Two wins have followed, including a 2nd round knockout of Joel Mafauad last October 11 in Riga, Latvia. The bout came with a regional IBF title at stake, a move necessary to keep him affixed in the upper portion of the ratings – and just in time to once again position himself to be one win away from another title shot.

IBF have already given Karen 2 title shots against Ennis.

Now he’s in another final eliminator.

Interesting matchup. Donovan was doing well before everything unraveled in the Crocker fights, so this feels like a big chance for him to get back in position. Chukhadzhian is tough and experienced at this level though, so it’s not an easy eliminator at all. The winner definitely earns that mandatory spot.

DONOVAN-CHUKADZHIAN: IBF SET MARCH 24 PURSE BID FOR ELIMINATOR

Paddy Donovan and Karen Chukhadzhian have about 10 more days to come to an agreement.

The IBF has scheduled a March 24 purse bid between their No. 3 and No. 5 welterweight contenders. However, that won’t be needed if they agree on a deal before then.

The bout's winner would become the IBF’s No. 1 contender and next in line for Lewis Crocker’s 147-pound strap. Ricardo Salas, who’s ranked No. 4, was unable to compete against either man as he recently defeated Jesus Saracho on March 8. The sanctioning body's top two spots remain vacant when there is no mandatory challenger.

For Ukraine’s Chukhadzhian, if he were to beat Donovan and go on to fight Crocker, it would be his third time fighting for a IBF world title.

Chukhadzhian (26-3, 14 KOs) lost a lopsided decision against Jaron Ennis in January 2023, then for the IBF interim title. Ennis repeated the trick, this time as full IBF champion, with a tougher decision in November 2024.

Chukhadzhian has beaten Cristian Javier Ayala and Joel Marcos Mafauad in his two appearances since a repeat defeat by Ennis.

As for Ireland’s Donovan, victory over Chukhadzhian would put him in position to fight Crocker for a third time.

Crocker (22-0, 11 KOs) won their first fight by eighth-round disqualification a year ago in Belfast, the now-champion's hometown.

Crocker was dropped in the eighth and on his way to a stoppage defeat first time around. Donovan (14-2, 11 KOs) was deducted a point in rounds six and eight for using his head before being disqualified for dropping Crocker after the bell sounded to end round eight. Donovan was ahead 69-63, 69-63 and 67-65 at the time of the stoppage.

Crocker dropped Donovan in the third and fifth rounds of their rematch September 13 in Belfast and won a split decision. He took home the IBF welterweight title Ennis relinquished three months earlier.

The 29-year-old is now recovering from a hand injury that postponed what would have been the first defense of his title against Australia's former 140-pound champion Liam Paro.

They were originally scheduled to meet in early April. Now a date in May or June is being targeted, in Australia.

Karen Chukhadzhian-Paddy Donovan IBF purse bid won by EMX Sports

Karen Chukhadzhian will have promotional muscle behind his bid to secure a third title challenge.

Boxing Scene has confirmed that Latvia-based EMX Sports outbid Matchroom Boxing to secure the rights to Chukhadzhian’s ordered IBF welterweight title eliminator versus Paddy Donovan. EMX won the purse bid hearing with a $311,00 submission, which outpaced Matchroom’s offer of $200,000.

The winner will become the sanctioning body’s next mandatory challenger. Its current titlist, Lewis Crocker, 22-0 (11 KOs) – also with Matchroom - is already due to face Australia’s Liam Paro, 27-1 (16 KOs) this spring in Australia.

Donovan is due 60 percent ($186,600) of the winning bid as the higher-ranked challenger. Chukhadzhian and his side are entitled to the remaining 40 percent ($124,400).

Ukraine’s Chukhadzhian, 26-3 (14 KOs), continues to remain a favorite son of the IBF, having already twice fought for its welterweight title. Both occasions came versus Jaron “Boots” Ennis and in the U.S., with Chukhadzhian dropping a pair of unanimous decisions.

Their January 2023 meeting saw Ennis go the distance for the first time in nearly six years, having racked up 19 knockouts and one No-Contest during that stretch. Philadelphia’s Ennis still handily won, a feat which ended Chukhadzhian’s 20-fight win streak.

Another three wins followed for Chukhadzhian, including a May 2024 points victory over England’s Harry Scarff to re-emerge as the IBF mandatory. It led directly back to Ennis, this time with P2M securing the promotional rights to the rematch after outbidding Matchroom.

However, the fight fell back into Matchroom’s hands, which resulted in a home game for Ennis. Their second meeting saw Chukhadzhian suffer a 5th-round knockdown but also push Ennis, only to once again fall well short on the final scorecards. He has since claimed two more victories, including a 2nd-round knockout of Joel Mafauad last October 11 in Riga, Latvia.

Donovan, 14-2 (11 KOs) has not fought since his two-fight set with Belfast’s Crocker, which left him with the lone two blemishes on his ledger.

The Andy Lee-trained contender from Limerick was unlucky to not preserve his perfect record from his first meeting with Crocker last March 1, which he lost via disqualification. Donovan was well ahead through seven rounds and had even floored Crocker earlier in the contest.

The ending to the 8th round sealed his fate, however. Donovan floored Crocker with a right hook marginally after the bell sounded to end the round. The official in-ring ruling was that Donovan failed to honor the verbal command of referee Marcus McDonnell, thus resulting in the disqualification verdict in their IBF title eliminator.

An immediate rematch was ordered, this time for the vacant IBF belt after Ennis moved up to junior middleweight. This time it was Donovan who was floored twice, which provided the margin of victory for his bitter rival (114-112 and 114-113 Crocker, 115-111 Donovan).

Donovan was subsequently ordered to next face Paro in a title eliminator. Their bout was scheduled for January 16, only for the Irishman to fall ill and have to withdraw. Paro was advanced to mandatory title challenger by default, though the IBF has moved quickly to get its next one in queue.

Per IBF rules covering purse bids, both boxers are required to commit to the ordered eliminator. Should either side abandon the fight, that boxer will be dropped outside the sanctioning body’s top 10 and ineligible to fight in any IBF-sanctioned contests for a minimum of six months.

Chukhadzhian’s Promoter Wins IBF Purse Bid For Eliminator With Donovan

Karen Chukhadzhian’s promotional team is making sure he has home-ring advantage.

EMX Sports, which promotes Chukhadzhian, submitted the winning bid of $311,000 on Tuesday for his IBF welterweight title eliminator against Paddy Donovan. Matchroom, Dononvan’s promoter, was the only other bidder ($200,000).

Boxing Scene.com first reported that EMX Sports won this purse bid.

Although Donovan (14-2, 11 KOs) and Matchroom were outbid, he’ll still receive the larger financial piece of the pie since he’s the higher-ranked fighter. Donovan is ranked No. 3 by the IBF and Chukhadzhian is No. 5.

Because of that, Donovan will receive 60 percent of the purse, $186,600. Chukhadzhian (26-3, 14 KOs) will get the remaining 40 percent, $124,400.

The winner of their bout will grab the No. 1 spot in the IBF rankings, which is currently vacant, and become the mandatory challenger for Lewis Crocker. The 29-year-old champion was originally set to defend his throne against Liam Paro (27-1, 16 KOs), the sanctioning body’s No. 2 contender, on January 16, before he withdrew due to a hand injury. Although an announcement hasn’t been officially made, they will likely fight in the spring.

If Ireland’s Donovan goes on to beat Chukhadzhian, he would land a third fight against Northern Ireland’s Crocker. In their first meeting, which took place last March in Crocker’s hometown of Belfast, Donovan was ahead on all three judges' scorecards before getting disqualified in the eighth round for landing a punch after the bell.

In their immediate rematch September 13, also in Belfast, Crocker (22-0, 11 KOs) dropped his man twice on his way to winning a split decision and IBF belt vacated by Jaron “Boots” Ennis three months earlier.

Chukhadzhian is looking for a third shot at a version of the IBF 147-pound title.

Ennis decisively defeated the Ukrainian contender by unanimous decision in January 2023 and again in November 2024. In the first fight, Ennis defended the interim title. In their seemingly unnecessary rematch, Ennis defended the full championship belt.

Philadelphia’s Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs, 1 NC) gave up The Ring, IBF and WBA welterweight titles when he moved up to the junior middleweight division nine months ago.

I was convinced that Paddy was going to be the next big Irish star.

But he's without a win in two years & I look like a pudendum, again.

He can beat Karen, but he needs to keep his cool in 'enemy' territory.

Karen Chukhadzhian promises to ‘outwork and outlast’ Paddy Donovan

Paddy Donovan will get his IBF welterweight eliminator on May 15, but he must travel to Germany to take on Karen Chukhadzhian in Mannheim.

Donovan-Chukhadzhian will appear on a Ringside Zone card on a Friday night at SAP Arena.

Donovan, of Limerick, Ireland, is 14-2 (11 KOs) and coming off two controversial losses to Lewis Crocker. In the first defeat, an overeager Donovan was disqualified for a shot that dropped and stopped Crocker after the bell. In the rematch, Donovan seemed to win more rounds but was knocked down twice and lost a decision.

“I’m coming to Mannheim to win big and move closer to a world title,” Donovan said. “Karen is tough and experienced, but I have the power and hunger to take the victory and make my mark.”

Chukhadzhian is 26-3 (14 KOs) and two fights ago lost a second contest to Philadelphia’s gifted Jaron Ennis.

“This final eliminator is my chance to prove I belong at the very top,” Chukhadzhian said. “I’ve faced the best and I’m ready to outwork and outlast Paddy Donovan to earn my shot at the world title.”

The bout is an eliminator for Crocker’s IBF title on a bill that features several heavyweight clashes.

Emanuel Odiase, 10-0 (8 KOs), will face Nick Webb, 19-3 (15 KOs), in a 10-rounder and Peter Kadiru, 22-1 (13 KOs), will meet Senad Gashi, 34-4 (32 KOs), in an all-German heavyweight clash scheduled for eight rounds. There are also slots on the bill for unbeaten prospects Viktor Jurk, 13-0 (11 KOs), and Nellie Tiafack, 3-0 (3 KOs).

Said promoter Florian Winter: “This is a historic night for German boxing at the SAP Arena. We are delivering a true ‘Night of the Heavyweights,’ showcasing the best of our emerging talent against tough international opposition and celebrating the excitement and passion of the sport on a big stage.”

Karen Chukhadzhian vs Paddy Donovan eliminator set for May 15th

Karen Chukhadzhian and Paddy Donovan will meet for a shot at the IBF welterweight title

Paddy Donovan’s quest for a third crack at Lewis Crocker will pit him against veteran spoiler Karen Chukhadzhian on May 15th in Mannheim, Germany.

Donovan (14-2, 11 KO) sits winless since his 2024 finish of Lewis Ritson, going 0-1-1 against Crocker in their two meetings. The first saw Donovan dominate the Belfast native in hostile territory, only to be disqualified for hitting after a bell that nobody in the ring was able to hear. The next time around, appeared to outpoint Crocker despite hitting the deck twice, but wound up on the wrong end of a split decision.

He’ll have a hell of a chip on his shoulder against Chukhadzhian (26-3, 13 KO) who’s best-known for taking Jaron Ennis the distance twice.

Karen Chukhadzhian said: “This final eliminator is my chance to prove I belong at the very top. I’ve faced the best and I’m ready to outwork and outlast Paddy Donovan to earn my shot at the world title.”

Paddy Donovan said: “I’m coming to Mannheim to win big and move closer to a world title. Karen is tough and experienced, but I have the power and hunger to take the victory and make my mark.”

Heavyweights Emanuel Odiase (10-0, 8 KO) and Nick Webb (19-3, 15 KO) helm the co-feature, while Peter Kadiru (22-1, 13 KO) vs Senad Gashi (34-4, 32 KO) and Olympian Nelvie Tiafack (3-0, 3 KO) highlight the rest of the undercard.

Donovan-Chukhadzhian IBF Eliminator May 15 In Mannheim, Germany

Karen Chukhadzhian and Paddy Donovan are both in prime position to get another crack at the IBF welterweight crown.
Chukhadzhian (26-3, 14 KOs) will face Donovan (14-2, 11 KOs) in an IBF 147-POUND title eliminator May 15 at SAP Arena in Mannheim, Germany. Their 12-round fight will headline a Ringside Zone show, it was announced on Tuesday.

EMX Sports, which promotes Chukhadzhian, secured the right to stage their bout by winning an IBF purse bid last month. Its winning bid was $311,000.

Chukhadzhian has fallen short the two previous times he pursued the 147-pound IBF title against Jaron Ennis, who soundly defeated him by unanimous decision in January 2023 and November 2024. But the 29-year-old Armenian, who was born and bred in Kyiv, Ukraine, has repositioned himself with the sanctioning body thanks to two wins since his second defeat to Ennis.

“This final eliminator is my chance to prove I belong at the very top,” Chukhadzhian, who is ranked fifth by the IBF, said in a statement. “I’ve faced the best, and I’m ready to outwork and outlast Paddy Donovan to earn my shot at the world title.”

The third-ranked Donovan, a 27-year-old southpaw from Ireland, lost back-to-back fights to England’s Lewis Crocker in 2025. Donovan suffered a disqualification defeat in an IBF elimination match last March and a split-decision loss September 13 in a fight for IBF belt Ennis vacated.

Donovan was supposed to face second-ranked Australian contender Liam Paro in an IBF title eliminator in January, but he pulled out of the pitting less than three weeks out due to illness. The series of events pushed Paro straight into a title shot against Crocker, which was originally planned for April 5. That fight was shelved once Crocker suffered a hand injury late in February.

“I’m coming to Mannheim to win big and move closer to a world title,” Donovan said in a statement. “Karen is tough and experienced, but I have the power and hunger to take the victory and make my mark.”

Paddy Donovan announces world title eliminator with Lewis Crocker trilogy in sight

Paddy Donovan continues his pursuit of a world title at the SAP Arena in Mannheim, Germany on May 15.

The southpaw from Ireland is currently ranked number 3 with the IBF in the welterweight ranks, having come close to winning the belt last year but losing to Lewis Crocker on the cards following their controversial first fight.

Donovan now has a clear path to a trilogy against the Belfast man, who is set to defend his belt against Australia’s Liam Paro next.

Standing in his way is Karen Chukhadzhian, who twice challenged former champion Jaron Ennis as a mandatory, losing both by unanimous decision.

Upon announcing the Ringside Zone show, Donovan said he plans to ‘make his mark’ on away soil.

“I’m coming to Mannheim to win big and move closer to a world title. Karen is tough and experienced, but I have the power and hunger to take the victory and make my mark.”

Chukhadzhian, however, plans to prove his credentials at the top level.

“This final eliminator is my chance to prove I belong at the very top. I’ve faced the best and I’m ready to outwork and outlast Paddy Donovan to earn my shot at the world title.”

The undercard is built around a series of heavyweight clashes, led by a significant step up for unbeaten German prospect Emanuel Odiase, who faces experienced Brit Nick Webb for the WBO European title.

There is also an all-German showdown between Peter Kadiru and Senad Gashi, with the latter’s experience and power posing a real danger, while 6ft 9in southpaw Viktor Jurk returns to action alongside rising Olympic standout Nellie Tiafack.

Away from the heavyweights, Aleksander Okafor takes on fellow unbeaten Elija Ulkuseven for the German cruiserweight title in just his fourth professional bout, and Devrin Gokduman contests the IBF European lightweight strap, rounding out a card stacked with prospects looking to make statements.

Paddy Donovan, 'no longer a playboy', reflects on the losses to Lewis Crocker

The wavy hair and fresh-faced features have gone, replaced by a tight crop of brown hair and a goatee.

Paddy Donovan, cheeks chiselled and ready for war, has headed to Germany as an evolving fighter and man.

“No longer playboy. He’s mean boy from now on,” the Irishman smiles.

“I just said, ‘fornicate it. I want something tighter.’ When I get punched in my head and my hair is flying all over the place, it looks a bit neater and cleaner now, I guess.”

Donovan has come of age through a gruelling 2025 that left him dejected and heartbroken, no once but twice.

Firstly, in the SSE Arena in Belfast, he was putting on the performance of his life only to nail Lewis Crocker after the bell forcing the Limerick man’s disqualification.

Despondent, he wept in the dressing room while trainer Andy Lee cradled his head.

Quickly, behind the scenes, manager Keith O’Sullivan protested the bout’s final stages and a rematch was quickly awarded. This time, outdoors in Windsor Park, back in Belfast, it seemed as though the stage was set for Donovan’s coronation.

Alas, he was dropped twice and lost a decision, despite seemingly having won most of the rounds.

A forlorn Donovan trudged back to his dressing room while rival Crocker celebrated being crowned as the new owner of the IBF’s welterweight title.

“I feel like in two fights, I’ve won 90 per cent of the rounds, but yet I have two losses on my record,” Donovan adds. “So that is the craziest feeling that you’re ever going to feel as a fighter. Probably one of the strangest careers you’re ever going to get, but it is what it is. It’s difficult, but we’re here, and the good thing is we’ve got one win and we’re back in the limelight for the world title.”

The win that would take him there is an IBF eliminator on Friday night in Mannheim, Germany, where Donovan has traveled to take on Karen Chukhadzhian.

Crocker is the IBF champ, the No. 1 spot is vacated, Liam Paro is No. 3 and Chukhadzhian is No. 7.

But the fights between Donovan and Crocker, while both resulting in disappointment for the Limerick man, were very different from one another.

Donovan dominated the first, was free-flowing and full of swagger and confidence, yet he was cagier in the sequel and allowed the fight to slip away.

Why were the bouts so different?

“He just came out moving,” Donovan said of the difference between the two bouts. “He just came out on the defense, and I felt like he’s obviously not going to beat me in a boxing match. I think that’s where I felt quite confident early, until Howard Foster scored the third-round knockdown, which to be honest, Howard Foster is a fantastic ref, but I think that mistake really changed the fight for the next couple of rounds. It felt like there was never a knockdown. It should never have been given a knockdown and I got maybe flashes of deja vu from the first fight. I came back to the corner and explained to Andy. I felt like, ‘What if this is going to happen again in the last fight?’ Probably, mentally, I switched off, and by the time I switched back on, I still think I won the fight. I think I won nearly all the rounds.

“I think Lewis scored the two knockdowns. I think he’s realistically never done anything in the fight, really. It is what it is, it’s strange, but looking back, things could have been different, I guess.”

Despite the tears after the first fight, Donovan said he was more crestfallen after the second, maybe because it was a bigger occasion, in a stadium and with the title on the line.

“The fact that the performance was so good in the first one, and the mistake from Marcus McDonnell that caused the fight [to end], I think a lot had Lewis’ fear going into the first fight. ‘Oh, he’s going to be so strong, he’s going to be so powerful, and how is Paddy going to keep him off big punches?’ But I stood and I fought him. I beat him. And I realistically dominated him for the whole fight, really, at his own game. So even though I never got the result that night, I felt like when I got home, when I went to sleep, I could sleep. I was still happy with the performance. I’m still only a young boy, and I went to Belfast in just my 13th, 14th fight, and I challenged for world honors, and I performed at an extremely high level, so I was proud of myself. But the second fight, I felt obviously completely different, being so close to being a world champion, being hot favorite in the bookies to be a world champion, being favorite in everybody’s eyes to be a world champion and not to be a world champion, I think that is a very hard pill to swallow.”

Of course, the Crocker talk, while not irrelevant, is firmly in the rear-view mirror.

Both trainer Andy Lee and Donovan admit Chukhadzhian is a dangerous and well-rounded opponent.

It is a hard assignment, risky but loaded with as much jeopardy as reward.

“Very solid,” Donovan said of his opponent. “He’s a good fighter and I think he’s a better fighter than Lewis Crocker, if I’m to be honest. I think he is. I think he’s more solid, I think he’s a more all-round fighter. He’s got good lateral movement, side-to-side, good boxing, in and out and he’s a good puncher. I think we’re actually an extremely good match-up. It’s going to be a great fight. I think there’s going to be a lot of turns and twists in this fight but the fact is, if he’s to beat me, he’ll know he’s earned his victory and I hope it’s fairly.”

Donovan pauses then, and one would imagine he would be thinking back to what he deems to be two miscarriages of justice against Crocker.

It would be naïve to think Donovan has not thought about the danger of going to the judges’ scorecards on away soil.

He has been focusing on what is in his control in the gym, stoking his hunger and ambition.

“You never know,” he replies, asked about the officials. “Listen, if anyone deserves a fair shake, I think it’s me. I think it’d be the most saddest career that you’re ever going to get if I’m to lose. I think mentally it probably will break me, realistically, as a fighter. I feel like I have probably so far had quite a strange career. I’d sooner go into these fights knowing that I’ve lost fairly or knowing that I got beat fair and square in fights, In the previous fights I'd say, ‘Okay, it is what it is, fornicate it, we move forward, we have this fight in Germany, we win, we win, we lose, we lose, it is what it is.’ But to have three losses on my record, feeling like I had won, it would be strange and I hope that doesn’t happen, I only ask for a fair shake because he won’t beat me on the night fairly.”

Donovan will again be guided into battle by Andy Lee, who has always expected big things from his charge. That has not changed as they’ve strategized ways to come out victorious in Germany.

“Andy still has the trust and the belief in me and I still trust and believe in Andy to become a world champion,” the 27-year-old says. “It’s just about getting everything right in Germany, which I think I can. Realistically, I know this is a tough fight with Karen but I can fight him, I can box him, I can do exactly anything that he wants on the night and I think whatever happens in the fight, I’ll become now victorious. I’m just ready for everything. I prepare for absolutely a toe-to-toe battle if it has to come down to it. I’m just really, really, really hungry and very, very motivated and I feel like I’ve got still a lot to prove. I think winning this fight guarantees me to be back up with the best fighters on the planet. It’s a big fight but that’s the good thing about boxing, I've got the opportunity. You know what I mean? There’s been a lot of negatives over the year but the positive thing is winning this and back fighting for a world title and I’ve got to be grateful for that.”:
Donovan is now asking himself whether he is good enough to be a world champion and if he is one of the best welterweights on the plant. He believes victory will show that he is, and he would have rather had in in Ireland or in the UK.

“I’m disappointed that Eddie [Hearn]’s lost the fight [purse bids] but then again, he’s lost Liam Paro-Crocker, who has the belt, which is not a good look for anybody, really, involved with the match-up. And I think you see it with Dalton Smith [who traveled to face Subriel Matias]. But look, it is what it is. Once you get in the ring, it’s an even playing ground. It’s all about who’s the best. That’s one thing about boxing. It’s not like a football game where you can shy away and defend or you can shy away and let someone else take the hits. So the only thing I ask for and the only thing I’ll be having my mind towards is just getting a fair shake, really. And if I can get a fair shake, I’m going to be extremely hard to beat. Hopefully it doesn’t go that far and I just get the knockout and get home.”
