Yeah, because Botha was about a 5 round fighter...Decagon wrote:They fought five times in the amateurs, with Sanders winning each bout, but Sanders didn't make the transition into the pros very well, and throughout his career, he was a three-round fighter. If Botha withstands Sanders's early onslaught, he'll probably win.TerribleTim2 wrote:Botha vs Sanders. Who would of won? Why didn't they ever fight?

Who said they hated Botha!?! And while I agree he had better stamina than Sanders, he could hardly be considered a great late rounds fighter. Not too many stirring, late round come from behind KOs in his resume. Or does he have a few of those undocumented fights like Marciano?Decagon wrote:Hey, I dislike Frans Botha as much as the next guy, but he did carry his power late, and he was a hell of a lot more effective in the later rounds than Sanders was.

I didn't realize that anybody had anything against Botha except for perhaps the drug situation with the Schulz fight. He always seemed like a decent guy.
It is suprsing that a Botha-Sanders fight never happend. It seemed like a natural fight that would have got a lot of attention in South Africa and would been a decent payday for each guy.
Anyway I would have to pick Sanders. Botha didn't really have much punching power. The chances of Botha knocking Sanders out is slim. Botha also was easy to hit, and although he had a decent chin, sooner or later Sanders would knock him out.
Botha was aggressive and may have made it interesting for a while. However eventually Sanders lands the big right hand, hurts him and knocks him out.

Hey Decagon...5 times? That would be a psyche edge for sure...sort of like just being owned. However I have a question since you seem to have the details. How did they end? Any KO's?Decagon wrote:They fought five times in the amateurs, with Sanders winning each bout, but Sanders didn't make the transition into the pros very well, and throughout his career, he was a three-round fighter. On first thought I would say Sander easy. He was a bigger puncher, faster, and WOULD catch Botha, a poor defensive fighter, big early. The question is if Botha can survive the early onslaught. I never liked Botha, simply b/c I thought he was horribly over-rated for winning rounds vs Tyson (which in retrospect was not a great accomplishment). He was slow, a light hitter, chubby, and simply not very exciting to watch.
But one shouldn't over-rate Corrie either. Very dangerous with his fast hands and southpaw stance early. Good puncher, but not the KO artist some have made him out to be (most of his KOs were stopped from guys just being dazed by the speed of his shots coming from that stance, not from his sheer power) Once the middle rounds came up though he became very ordinary and left himself wide open. This is either going to play like Sanders-Cole, when a normally durable guy gets overwhelmed by Sander;s southpaw speed and aggression, or Botha-Briggs, in which the stamina-plagued fast puncher goes for broke, then lets the more limited journeyman come on late.

Agree 100%. And i like Botha a lot, but this is a realistic assessment. Sanders with his height & long arms, big punch, all wrong for Botha, who was down v Briggs & Moorer, among others. Tough bastard though.Ambling Alp wrote: Anyway I would have to pick Sanders. Botha didn't really have much punching power. The chances of Botha knocking Sanders out is slim. Sanders vrs Botha
I seem to rember an interview a few years ago before Sanders fought Vladimir Klitchko, that the reason Botha didnt fight Sanders because he (Sanders)wasnt a marketable name and no one heard of him outside South Africa(which was bull)
IMOP,Sanders would have KNOCKED OUT COLD Frans Botha.
I dont think it hurt Frans Botha's career any that Don King's son was his manager!!!
Sanders had the door slammed in his face during the best years of his career.

Sanders vrs Tubbs
Anyone seen the fight between Corie Sanders and Nate Tubbs?
I heard it was either a TKO or a KO.
What were the circumstances?
I remember Sanders said a few years ago, that it difficult to come back when your hurt.Im guessing Sanders was ahead on points when it he got hurt?

Re: Sanders vrs Tubbs
It's an interesting fight. Sanders is winning the sounds, but not spectacularly. Then . . .BOOM, Tubbs gets in one good punch and Sanders goes down like he's been shot. Don't know what that says about Corrie's fight with Vitali, in which he took Klitschko's best punches for round after round and kept coming forward.Brutu wrote:Anyone seen the fight between Corie Sanders and Nate Tubbs?
