Bakary Samake joins the Queensberry team

Leading super welterweight contender Bakary Samake has joined forces with allegedly and Queensberry (in association with Samake Promotions).

In conjunction with Samake Promotions, the 22-year-old French star will fight under the Queensberry banner as he closes in on a shot at the WBC world title.

Samake, who holds a record of 19-0 (11 KOs), is ranked No.1 by the WBC, where the champion is the American southpaw Sebastian Fundora, with Vergil Ortiz Jr holding the Interim belt.

Samake is the holder of the WBC Silver championship, having won the title in November 2024 with a stoppage victory over Wade Ryan. He has made one successful defence with another stoppage win over Roarke Knapp in April.

His most recent activity came in October when Samake took on the 25-0 Alejandro Ortiz and defeated the Venezuelan via a fifth-round knockout.

Samake becomes the second French fighter currently on the books of Queensberry, following on from 2016 Olympic gold medallist Tony Yoka.

The WBC announced that Arena Box Promotions has secured the rights to organize a WBC final junior middleweight eliminator bout between France’s Bakary Samake and Albania’s Ermal Hadribeaj. In a competitive bidding process, Arena Box Promotions submitted a winning bid of $339,817 USD, surpassing the proposal from Samake Promotions, which was for $281,800 USD. This bout was originally scheduled to be part of the Lawrence Okolie vs. Tony Yoka card. However, following the cancellation of that event last week [due to Okolie failing a drug test], the fight entered a new bidding process to guarantee its realization under the highest standards.

Samake (19-0) has proven to be one of the most solid and charismatic figures in European boxing. His dynamic style and undefeated record position him as a favorite among French fans. Hadribeaj (22-0-1) enters with the reputation of being a relentless fighter with a refined technique that has led him to rapidly climb the international rankings. The Albanian sees this eliminator as the perfect opportunity to establish himself among the elite of his wwight class.

Arena Box Wins Purse Bid For Samake-Hadribeaj WBC eliminator

Sebastian Fundora is about to find out who’s his next mandatory challenger.

Arena Box Promotions, which promotes the WBC’s No. 3 junior middleweight contender Ermal Hadribeaj (22-0-1, 8 KOs), submitted the winning bid to play host to his 154-pound eliminator against Bakary Samake (19-0, 11 KOs), ranked No. 10 by The Ring and No. 1 in the WBC.

During the bidding process, Samake Promotions did its best to give him home-field advantage. However, Arena Box handed over $339,817, which was $58,017 more than the $281,800 offer from Samake. It isn’t clear when the fight will be put together.

Samake, 22 and WBC junior middleweight silver beltholder, has shown promise and aggression. The Frenchman is riding a three-fight knockout streak, though it has come against low-level opposition.

Hadribeaj, 10 years older at 32, is looking for a signature win of his own. When last seen, the Albanian native grabbed a routine points win over little-known Placido Ramirez in November.

Unfortunately for the winner, facing Fundora (24-1-1, 16 KOs), The Ring’s No. 1 154-pounder, next is unlikely.

According to promoter Eddie Hearn, IBF champion Josh Kelly is in negotiations with Fundora for a unification bout that could take place this summer.

Wow, we could have an appealing year or so at 154. It would be interesting if the winner of Fundora-Kelly took on the winner of Zayas-Ennis, and then there would be no shortage of quality boxers in the division to challenge the undisputed champ after that.

Crazy how mandatory challengers work in boxing — guys grind through eliminators and still might get skipped because of bigger money fights. Samake looks exciting, but I’m curious if Hadribeaj’s experience could make this way tougher than people expect.
