Best Lightweight Right Now?

Post by Taansend »

From being talent laden & fairly deep a few short years ago the division seems a bit sparse at present. Plenty of decent talent but are there any standout fighters yet?

Raymond Muratella upset the apple cart with his decision over Eddie's favourite Andy Cruz.

Abdullah Mason looks like a star of the future.

William Zepeda looked like The One until Tevon Farmer exposed his shortcomings.

Floyd Schofield, Jadier Herrera (my pick), Sam Noakes & a few others are lurking about but who is the best & who's going to be the standout in the next couple of years?

Mason has my vote unless stevenson goes back t o 135; even then, I'm not certain.

getting bounced off the canvas multiple times by a rando and going to the wire against noakes is hardly stevenson level stuff

He was 20 & still won by an early ko.

And Noakes is a World class fighter.

Is Loma coming back?

Who would you like to see him fight?

Should be jump straight back in with a top 5 fighter or have an ease back fight?

it happened a year before his last fight, not ages ago. the question was about who is better right now so a fight that recent is still relevant. im sure mason will improve from where hes at now but he's shown holes in the recent past that stevenson hasnt been any time lately. mason was also hurt vs another earlier opponent so its not just a one off where he's looked a bit vulnerable.

noakes would barely touch stevenson, youre talking like a p4p top 5 guy.

never mind potential, do you think mason is currently better than shakur stevenson ? these are not knocks on mason, he is a very good boxer who will most likely get even better, but shakur stevenson, despite lack luster career times, is just fantastic.

he was 20 then and 21 in the last fight we have to judge him on. hardly an age difference at all. you cant reasonably say fights at 21 count but fights at 20 have to be ignored because he's too young

you didnt answer the question - who do you think is better right now, shakur stevenson or mason?

I don't need to answer your question. It's a nothing question. They're in different weight divisions. If they sign up to fight then we can chat about that

I'm talking about you thinking that a 20 year old kid, going up against a hard punching veteran (21kos in 26 wins), getting caught in the 1st round & going down twice BUT getting up, decking & stopping said veteran in the very next round, is a bad thing.

I LOVE that he overcame that adversity. It's not a bad thing.

someone brought up stevenson and mason so i responded to that, if you dont want to answer who is better, why did you even enter that convo about who is better?

its an adversity stevenson would never need to face at that level because he's simply too good and was already too good years ago. those shots wouldnt catch him.
