Michel Soro-Hassan Mwakinyo headline in Ivory Coast June 10

Former world title challenger Michel Soro will face Hassan Mwakinyo in a 12-round middleweight on June 10.

The event dubbed "Dream 1" will be promoted by Dream Promotions and Arnaud Sevin and will take place at the Parc Des Expositions, Abidjan, Ivory Coast live on Canal+ as part of an initiative to develop boxing further in Africa.

Soro (38-4-2, 27 KOs) a perennial contender at 154 pounds, previously fought for the WBO title against Zaurbek Baysangurov but lost a 12-round unanimous decision back in 2012. He gave future WBO ruler Brian Castano a scare narrowly losing a 12-round split decision in July 2017.

More recently, he shared the ring with Israel Madrimov (L TKO 9/TD 3). He controversially lost to Magomed Kurbanov (SD 12) in Russia in May 2023 but the 38-year-old has claimed three wins up at middleweight.

Mwakinyo (25-3, 18 KOs) came to the fore when he upset Sam Eggington (TKO 2) in England in September 2018. After several wins he was despatched by Liam Smith (TKO 4) in September 2022.

The 31-year-old has since won five fights in his native Tanzania.

The undercard will feature former European super middleweight titleholder Kevin Lele Sadjo (28-1, 25 KOs) taking on Richard Mtangi (17-1-1, 13 KOs) in a scheduled 10-round bout.

Sadjo, 36, is from Cameroon but lives in France is a former European champion, who dropped but lost when he stepped up to face Diego Pacheco (UD 12) on December 13, though has won twice since.

Meanwhile, current European junior middleweight titlist Milan Prat (29-1, 23 KOs) will face unbeaten Tanzanian Amiri Matumla (11-0, 5 KOs)

Kevin Lele Sadjo & Milan Prat Fights On The Undercard Of Soro Vs Mwakinyo

World-rated super middleweight Kevin Lele Sadjo (28-1, 25 KOs) will take on Richard Mtangi (17-1-1) on June 10 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Also on the bill is EBU super welterweight champion Milan Prat (29-1), who meets Amiri Rashidi Matumla (11-0), also from Tanzania.

Headlining the show are middleweights Michel Soro (38-4-2) and Hassan Mwakinyo (25-3) in a fight for the vacant IBO title.

English super welterweight Alex Farrell (13-0) is featured on the undercard, where local heroes Azoumana Diarra (1-1), Gazo Iris (4-0), and Kassi Daniel Komenan (1-0) will also get a chance to shine.

The event is staged by Dream Rings Promotions and billed as “The Dream 1.” It is probably the biggest boxing show in Ivory Coast since Elisha Obed defended the WBC super welterweight title against Sea Robinson in 1976.

This appears to be a decent card. I think Soro-Mwakinyo for the vacant IBO middleweight belt, Sadjo-Mtangi, and Prat-Matumla are all good fights, although the A-side French boxers will most likely prevail.

I believe Sadjo is now taking on Abdul Ubaya, who is from Tanzania with a record of 11-5-0 (6 KOs).

To the best of my knowledge, the other two top fights (Soro-Mwakinyo for the IBO MW title and Pratt-Matumla) remain unchanged

Soro won the vacant IBO MW title by stopping Mwakinyo in the ninth, while Sadjo and Prat both scored UDs over ten rounds.
