Boxer date of birth missing in boxpro summary box

Post by Aeneas »

When will Boxrec include the date of birth of boxers in its boxpro summary,
if that date of birth is known ?
This is important in appraising results, when at the start or end of
a boxer's career.
Of course, no one is sure when Liston was born -- that is rare.
The one flaw in an excellent website.

That and the omission of WBA contests!

I just noticed an "age" box for a few boxer summaries today.
Maybe this omission is already being fixed.
This is a good development.

It used to sow date of birth. I believe they had to stop doing it due to the GDPR data privacy regulations.

Those who want that information normally had to transition back and forth
between boxrec and wikipedia, which had and displayed the dob data -- tedious.
However, this proved that the dob data was available.
Whatever GDPR is in the EU, it would invalidate all of wikipedia as well,
if dob display was truly banned.

I never understood the 'privacy' thing. IMDB shows DOB on the biggest celebrities and I don't see anyone suing them. So why would a 4-round clubfighter be a sudden priority on privacy? And I agree, that tidbit of info is vital when you're looking at a fighter's prime and when he was past it.

This apprehension is understandable though. dob and maybe one other detail
of a person, could allow criminal activity against the person.
"age" is an acceptable middle ground, as long as that datum is accurate.
