I couldn't see a thread for this fight. Apologies if there is one.
Anyone seen much of his opponent? I was looking at his record & he was fighting decent opposition from the get go but never really progressed. He just fought C level fighters from his 3rd fight to his last fight.
I hope Jack wins but I just have this feeling he is this generations Michael Brodie.
If he does win will his next fight be against Rolly for the full belt?

I’ve never heard of him, he’s Uzbeki so presume he’s tough as teak. Long overdue title for Catterall methinks and he seems to be punching harder now. Bodes well. Not sure if the training disruption will affect him though.

He's with Steve Smith now, isn't he. Would be great for such a young trainer to get a World Champ so soon into his coaching career.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑19 May 2026, 02:20 I’ve never heard of him, he’s Uzbeki so presume he’s tough as teak. Giyasov got a Silver in Rio, losing to the bloke who Hearn signed but then didn't really fight much. Yelasinnov or something like that.
Hopefully Jack does it & maybe Welter will wake up a bit. We had Boots & Ortiz dancing around each other. Now we might see the top blokes actually fight each other.
Garcia v Benn
Paro v Crocker soon. I think we'll see Connah Walker fight the winner.
Norman is back. Donovan is back. Julian Rodrieguez is looking good.
And Devin Haney

Re: Jack Catterall v Shakhram Giyasov
Jack made harder work of Ekow than a world level fighter should have. Did that show him to be on the slide or merely unsuited to Ennis' tactics / training methods ?
I like Jack but an ageing fighter swapping trainers every fight is rarely a recipe for success. Could be a hard night's work for him on Saturday

Rolly Romero now Super Champion, Shakhram Giyasov-Jack Catterall for vacant title
Despite not having fought for a year, and having no fight date in the diary, the WBA has upgraded Rolly Romero to ‘Super World Champion’ status.
The move allows Jack Catterall’s fight with Shakhram Giyasov on Saturday in Egypt, originally for the ‘regular’ title, to be upgraded to a bout for the full championship.
The WBA’s website explained the announcement saying: “The decision was made by the WBA Championships Committee following a formal request from Romero’s team and after reviewing his accomplished run as a three-division champion.”
The WBA continued, explaining: “The sanctioning body also established that Romero must face the winner of the Giyasov vs. Catterall showdown within a maximum period of 180 days after the fight takes place.
“The resolution issued by the WBA is supported by the organization’s rules and regulations, which grant the Championships Committee and the WBA President the authority to designate Super Champions under exceptional circumstances and in the best interest of the sport.”
Romero is 17-2 (13 KOs), and has won his last two fights since a one-sided stoppage loss to Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, defeating Manuel James and Ryan Garcia at junior welterweight and 147lbs respectively.
