Me too. Matt Christie, Tris Dixon, Ruthless and co add more value to the sport than all those clowns it makes me sad and if they go indie I hope they thrive. And if they have platforms behind paywalls put them on here I’ll happily subscribe. It must be a stressful time and I hope they are all ok.golden_labrador wrote: ↑16 May 2026, 11:39100%SeanBrennan wrote: ↑16 May 2026, 10:36I hope so. I don’t care if BN costs £20 I’ll buy it. I'd be more inclined to call Parsons an arse rather than scum. He isn't scum.
Scum is the housing estate chav from three generations of dole dodgers that thinks robbing an old granny rather than working for a living is fair game.

I’ll respectfully disagree and call them scum. They are part of the same machine that has not once asked a question about Kinahan, Saudi sportswashing, Barry and Epstein, all the PED failures, they get paid to push a pre written narrative.forcefraser wrote: ↑16 May 2026, 12:30 I'd be more inclined to call Parsons an arse rather than scum. I’m from the housing estate ilk you speak of and take that on the chin. I left school at 15 and have never been out of work and not taken a day sick despite having two bouts of cancer so I’m not defending anyone who is workshy. But it’s interesting that you assign a higher moral shortfall to those people than people who deliberately cheerlead narco terrorists and global corrupt elites. The word I’d use for my fellow housing estate people is bone idle and ill educated.
Your term of chav I’d be interested in to understand what you mean by it.
I’m not trying to Segway this genuinely interested.

estate and a caravan park for two halves of every year so don’t take the jibes personally. I get it. I’d be interested to know if he has lived on an estate though. I think it affords you more perspective if you did. He uses cheap barbs and I’m not sure he has lived that life. I did. I never had any desire to live it forever but don’t view those who do or did with derision. My Ma lived in a council house all her life. I think it’s a sad myth that it’s a group of workshy dodgers. More than half of people who live in social housing work. It’s a really boring but real fact. I’m happy to post the source data if he wants to come back to me on this. I just think this narrative is typical of people seeking to punch downwards.
And like I said I’m not a beggy lefty, I have given my life and health to give my family a life I never had, but I just don’t take pleasure in pissing on people with less. Living on an estate where you’ve not been raised great doesn’t make me want to condemn the people who live there.

Re: Boxing Scene laying off quality writers
The demise of the respected boxing writer died overnight with the arrival of channels like IFL in my opinion. You can blame Eddie Hearn for that. Eddie provided overnight access to a complete novice/friend with very little boxing knowledge and even less journalistic experience. That opened the door for any top dick or harry to own a camera and attend press conferences. The market is saturated with so called boxing channels pandering to the big promoters egos. They are either too frightened to ask the tough questions for fear of losing access or are bankrolled in some way that prevents them. Fair play to the likes of IFL for building a nice little business. I don't blame them for exploiting a gap in the market. It's good business for them. Boxing King Media, the same. Even Carl Froch, who says he says how it is,has had to play the game.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑16 May 2026, 09:18 It’s a sad day when these people can’t earn a living in the sport but absolute melts like Charlie Parsons can nick a living pushing Dazn 5 per cent discounts and asking prescribed questions. I'll address the Saudi sporstwashing comment.
Parsons and his like are scum for not asking probing questions about it?
If that is the case are we all scumbags on here for watching these cards? I recall on here, quite correctly, that the early Saudi Cards were hailed as the "best we'd seen in years".
I didn't see many people on here refusing to watch out of solidarity for the victims of the Saudi Regime.

A disappointing development, but not entirely unexpected. I was talking to Tris ringside at the Crocker-Donovan rematch just after I'd been let go by Boxing News and he had industry-wide fears.
We can all see the direction it's travelling in. I'm happy just tinkering around on Substack again, doing a bit of podcasting. Hopefully, these guys get picked up somewhere.

Tris Dixon also now saying he's on Substack, whatever that is.
Looks like being a boxing journalist isnt particularly conducive to paying the bills any more. The end result will be PR slop, silence and bad people doing things unnoticed. That also applies to news journalism too so we'll all be worse off thanks to the way tech companies operate.
Boxing News has never been more important so buy a copy if you dont already!

Substack is an online publishing platform that allows independent writers, journalists, and creators to publish content—like articles, newsletters, podcasts, and videos—directly to their audience. It essentially combines the features of a traditional blog, an email newsletter, and a paid subscription service.
Basically an Only Fans, but for Journos
Re: Boxing Scene laying off quality writers
It serves as a newsletter too. A good way of sending stuff out and it has a comments function so it’s a place to discuss with other fans. At the beginning it was a decent indie site but as bigger “creators” have got wind of it it’s been saturated with shite, like most things.

Re: Boxing Scene laying off quality writers
Writing about boxing in an era when the fandom has such a low median IQ was always going to be perilous. The sport has become so degraded that writers of the stature of Liebling, Heinz, Mailer, McIlvanney, Dave Anderson et al wouldn’t even bother covering it. Events nowadays feel like a cross between professional wrestling and a stag do.
Everyone in the boxing media (and certainly at DAZN) is little more than a carnie hustling the rubes.

Agree but the dearth of quality writers and the illiterate state of boxing fans is the Catch 22.
The modern boxing fan can't even understand that sentence.
