Dykes vs Dychko (updated)

Dykes gets Copenhagen Assignment

https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/260636 ... pyWgHju-vg

Whitehawk’s Harvey Dykes is heading overseas for his next outing, after several domestic rivals turned down the opportunity to face him for a title. The former National Amateur Champion takes on Danish prospect and local favourite Gustav Thorsen at the Brondby Hall in Copenhagen on May 16th.

The 7-0 Dane has been tipped by his promoters for big things and will be expected to come through the eight round co-main feature. Dykes has different ideas:

They have made a big mistake,” said the 30-year-old, who also has seven professional victories as well as an incorrectly scored draw in a contest he clearly won. ‘They have brought me in as an opponent as they think my record flatters me, but they have based that off my last performance.’

Dykes last boxed at the Brighton Centre in November, outpointing the experienced Viktor Chvarkov over six rounds. Whilst he won clearly, the performance felt laboured.

‘There was a lot going on in the build-up to that fight,’ Harvey, who has just opened his own gym in Brighton, explained. ‘There was a lot going on that night as well, including putting me on last to keep my fans in the Arena.

'I won’t say any more about it, except for it will be a different me in May. I’m fitter and more focussed than I’ve ever been and I’ll do my talking in the ring.’

Fighting Thorsen won’t be without its challenges. At 6ft 8’’ the Dane holds a significant height and reach advantage and has stopped all but two of his opponents.

‘He’s a banger and he’s massive! But I’m a much better boxer with a much better pedigree. I can’t wait.’

The Brighton man had been due to face Jonathan Palata at the York Hall on January 31st for the Southern Area Title, only for Palata’s team to pull out of the fight. It’s becoming a familiar story.

‘I have had a few title fights lined up, with the money agreed and everything. Then the other side always pulls out. I’m fed up with it.

‘I think I’m too high a risk for them to fight at this level of title fight. Who knows. So, I’m going abroad and doing the things the hard way. I don’t mind that. I’m used to it!’

dykes moves well and quick hands, but being so small with 0 power to take it outta the judges hands is a big ask on the road. i have not seen the unit of a dane tbf though. often when theyre that big they dont box very well (exceptions exist of course), although he looks to have some decent amateur experience at least

just watched some of thorsen, not particularly impressive tbh. very tall but looks slow and ponderous and a bit timid vs a much shorter guy. id bet he will prob outpoint harvey in a jab and grab type fight, but certainly not some impossible challenge

His schedule is crazy mate. He’s working full time running his own business, trains 2-3 times a day, up to London 3-4 days a week as well. Also just opened his own gym with his brother.

Seems to work for him though. He’s in good shape at the moment

Terrible decision. They got the scorecards wrong as well.

93-93 - in a ten round fight with no knockdowns. And if there were any 10-8 rounds, krasmaru certainly didn’t win any.

Harvey has landed a late notice slot on the CBS bill.

Fights Ivan Dychko over ten. Hopefully it gets shown live.

i was actually interested in dykes vs the danish bloke, as harvey moves a lot better than that giant and might have been able to do well in that. dychko will be a lot tougher and prob just poke at harvey from way outside to win the rounds. but tbh, harvey losing 100-90 might be good for his career as odd as it sounds, showing hes an opponent who can go rounds but isnt dangerous seems like his best bet of getting fights regularly

Dykes versus Dycho !!!!!
Who would have predicted that?
I suspect Dykes has pretty bad management generally.

Dykes movement is far too good for him to be shut out.

If he had notice he’d start as favourite for me.

What can I tell you - I’m biased and do believe Dychko has a bit of a myth about him.

Any idea why he has fought so few times in his career?

Just checked Ivan really is inactive isn’t he. Averaging less than 2 fights per year and coming off a loss. Come on Dykes.

The original match up reminds me a little of Michael Sprott Vs Timo Hoffmann in Germany.

Sprott got robbed in that one if memory serves. 25 years ago now! :o

Wish Dykes well Vs Dyko it's a tough ask
