British Fighters That Only Lost To the Best.....

Post by Taansend »

But didn't beat that many decent fighters.

So who was a decent fighter, looked good against B level but kept failing at top level - or was just unlucky?

I'll start with Kell Brook. Really he only has one good, prime, fighter on his record. Shawn Porter. And as much as I love Shawn Porter, he spells his name wrong. Aside from that I think his next best win is an old Amir Khan.

But his three losses were Golovkin, Spence & Crawford.

GGG only had one clear loss in 45 fights. Spence only lost to Crawford & Crawford is the one of the top three of the 21st Century in my humble opinion (I haven't really thought that through though).

So if you ask me how good Kell was, I don't really know. Maybe the best gauge was Carson Jones but he was up & coming then so, no.

Anyone else?

Some pessimists might consider Nas, Hatton (until his final fight), Froch, BJS and Sunny Edwards. Not so much only having wins at B level but only having losses to the best.

Not quite the best, but Bruno's losses were very respectable. Tyson, Lewis, Witherspoon and Bonecrusher.

Anthony Yarde.

I'd argue Callum Smith did beat some decent boxers.

It’s only worth being on this list if you actually beat some of the best boxers too.

That isn't the criteria laid out in the O.P.

They really don't have to have any good wins, it's just that they only lost to good or great fighters. There wouldn't be that many of those types anyway, and I think the ones there are have been named already.

Would Tyson Fury still be on this list if he lost to AJ?

I'd think so as long as he didn't lose again after that to a lesser name he'd still be alright. Anthony Joshua and him have both been around pretty much the same amount of time give or take a few years so it's an even matchup between 2 well decorated Champions to me.

Won't be an embarrassing defeat for either man so long as they make a fight of it. If it's a 1 sided drubbing that's a bit different.

I considered Yarde but he lost to Lyndon Arthur.

Josh909, Yep, good correction...I'd completely forgot Yarde lost the first fight with Lyndon Arthur
