Who was the greater lightweight?

I say Jack.

How come?

Montgomery may have those extra wins on his record over Jenkins and Williams, but Jack beat more contenders (including Joyce), as well as Angott, who Montgomery never managed to defeat, although admittedly, Angott was better in the Montgomery fights. Still, 3-0 to Sammy. Jack went up and beat some good welterweights as well like Bratton & Janiro.

I'd go for Jack too... although Montgomery was the better technical boxer, Jack had the better career all in all... I would have liked to see him in with a Mancini or Gatti, that would be a hell of a fight, ...I'd favour Jack both times!... :box: :box: :box:

I think Jack was definitely a class above those two. He was on the same kind of level as Buchanan & Brown.

I actually met Jack in the Miami gym in the early 90s when I was travelling round America... was too shy to say much to him though!... :roll: :roll: :roll: ...damn shame that they closed that gym down...
