Didn't he take that fight at short notice and have a two week camp?

I don't remember it like that but I could be wrong.keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑19 Jun 2026, 12:03Didn't he take that fight at short notice and have a two week camp?
I remember how confident he was in the pre fight interviews, repeatedly talking about their sparring sessions several years earlier.

Very interesting fight
Re: Moses Itauma vs. Filip Hrgovic | DAZN - 29 August 2026
It is, but it should have been a lot sooner. Itauma should be out every two months.
Re: Moses Itauma vs. Filip Hrgovic | DAZN - 29 August 2026
I can't think of many guys who have been touted as "the next big thing" who were so inactive, so early in their career. Part of becoming the next big thing is the Public has to learn who you are. They don't learn who you are if they never see you.

Breaking: Per source involved, Filip Hrgovic, after initially turning down Aug. 29 to face Moses Itauma saying he didn't want to fight so soon after Dave Allen fight, accepted it & signed Friday. 12 rounds at The O2 in London, DAZN PPV (or part of Ultimate Plan). #boxing

As much as I hate these names events trying to rip off classic like thriller in Manila etc, natural born thriller is a great name.

We can only hope he is learning a lot in the gym, and these long absences from the ring are not stagnation.gilgamesh wrote: ↑19 Jun 2026, 15:02I can't think of many guys who have been touted as "the next big thing" who were so inactive, so early in their career. Mike Tyson - a similar next big thing fought 23 times in his first two years as a pro- 23 times!
Re: Moses Itauma vs. Filip Hrgovic | DAZN - 29 August 2026
Most don't fight as often as Tyson did in those early years, but most do certainly fight more frequently than Itauma has that's for sure.KiwiRider wrote: ↑19 Jun 2026, 22:50We can only hope he is learning a lot in the gym, and these long absences from the ring are not stagnation.

Not exactly the best comparison. Tyson fought for the title the year after turning pro. How many other heavyweights do that.KiwiRider wrote: ↑19 Jun 2026, 22:50We can only hope he is learning a lot in the gym, and these long absences from the ring are not stagnation.

Also look at the Heavyweight top ten in 1986 & most of them had over 50/60 fights.
Today's lot will have half that.
And if you want to go back another 40 years they had 75/100 fights. Different times.

Wilder had 15 fights in his first two years and is up to 51 fights. If only he learned something over that many fights

How about Anthony Joshua?
15 fights in his first two years as well
Re: Moses Itauma vs. Filip Hrgovic | DAZN - 29 August 2026
Joshua and Wilder are fine examples to give when comparison building a Heavyweight in the modern era. They basically ARE products of the modern era. Their rise came within the last 20 years, they're still hanging around the remnants of the previous Boxing generation before it fades out into this next one.
Re: Moses Itauma vs. Filip Hrgovic | DAZN - 29 August 2026
They are both active boxers, so they are actually of this generation.gilgamesh wrote: ↑20 Jun 2026, 16:04Joshua and Wilder are fine examples to give when comparison building a Heavyweight in the modern era. Some Slovakian Slugger stats;

2025- 2 fights, total of 3 rounds
2026- 1 fight so far, total of 6 rounds.

Re: Moses Itauma vs. Filip Hrgovic | DAZN - 29 August 2026
I think Hrgovic is different to an extent. He's nowhere near as overused and shopworn as the other two. However, he's got his obvious limitations which is why he's been selected as an opponent.
Re: Moses Itauma vs. Filip Hrgovic | DAZN - 29 August 2026
Hrgovic is a valid contender, but Chisora is a trial horse who should have retired years ago and Allen is an overrated buffoon who would have been fortunate to box for an area title in the days before social media.
Re: Moses Itauma vs. Filip Hrgovic | DAZN - 29 August 2026
Hrgovic had some strong words for Allen today
