Alexander Povetkin vs Mairis Briedis

Post by 2128778 »

Both are actually having three mutual foes - Marco Huck, Mike Perez and Manuel Charr.

Reminder, that Briedis did some fights at HW, particularly when he flattened aforementioned Charr face first to the canvas. And he was flirting with an idea of moving up to heavyweight for an Usyk rematch (that didn't happen, of course).

Let's imagine Briedis would've challenged Povetkin at HW. Both are in good shape.

12 rounds.

Who wins?

Breidis is definitely at least as good if not better than Marco Huck, and Huck gave Povetkin all he could handle, and arguably deserved the nod against him.

You are right, but honestly, that was very poor performance by Povetkin then
Edit: cannot believe that fight was 14 years ago :o

Time flies by.

Yeah, if I recall Povetkin wasn't in shape for that one. He may have underestimated Huck, plus he switched trainers from Teddy Atlas to Alexander Zimin in a span of 2 months.

All that, I guess, attributed to his overall poor showing.
