Jimmy Vincents Comeback.

Just looking at the week ahead in UK Boxing and I noticed the tough Jimmy Vincent is due to fight again on Monday.

I can understand him not wanting to lose on a loss, but how far can he really go at this stage of his career?

He's not fighting. he is injured. He will fight on December 11th instead

Durability was always a big part of his game and the manner of his OK by Jennings with a single clean shot would suggest that his punch resistance has gone.

He's a good test for most of the guys out there, but do think his time is over at the top end of the domestic scene. Unless he's happy being a good journeyman he should consider packing it in. He would be a good test for some of the up and comers though, like Mcneil, Doherty etc.

He had a very personal tragedy.

His young son passed away. His mind was not on fighting when he fought Jennings ( Understandably so) as his son was going through his own fight.

I read about this a while back in Boxing News..

Feck me, didn't know that. It totally puts boxing on the back burner when you've got something like that to contend with, and does kind of point to why he lost to Jennings in such a way, his mind was obviously up his arse. Maybe he does have something to offer then, all the best to the guy. Give him someone like Mcneil, Doherty etc cause he will defo sort out the good from the bad that's for sure.

He was usually value for money so if he is able to concentrate on Boxing for a while he may well have something still to offer at domestic level.

Jimmy Vincent's son was seriously ill at the time he took the Jennings fight.

Jimmy lost his son at the beginning of the year after a protracted battle.

Jimmy wants to fight Jennings again because that was not the real Jimmy Vincent.

He was unable to train due to looking after his son and his only real concern was his son getting better. He lost 7 pounds the day before the fight.

I wish this proud man much luck in his comeback.

He deserves another shot... I think his loss to Jennings was down to his sons illness rather than any real fall in ability....

All respect to Jimmy and sorry to hear about his son, but that is not gonna make your chin weaker. Jennings caught him with some good shots and thats all there is to it. I hope he does well in his come back though.

Bad prep can easily effect your punch resistance. Losing 1/2 stone in 24 hours isn't going to do you much good.

Plus, I do think it was a case of being caught a little cold, it was a peach of a shot from Jennings also. Tim Witherspoon got whallooped in one vs James Bonecrusher Smith, but went on to show that he had a cast iron chin in advanced years.

His chin has always been pretty good in the past, I wouldn't say the Jennings knockout makes him chinny plenty of fighters with decent chins have been KO'd at some stage.

No wonder he lost. I defy anyone to be able to train and fight properly under those circumstances.

IN THE RETURN, COWDELL STOPPED DAHO IN 9 ONE SIDED ROUNDS.

It is a great shame that Daho is no longer with us.

Yes, Daho was a true warrior and a larger than life character who was well liked.

I like Jimmy, always gave value for money, and he did beat Barnes IMO.
But at 37 and only 1 fight in 3 years by the time december gets here , then i can't see him getting it all back.
If he does win in December then i hope he can get a couple more fights to gauge what he can still do. before trying to take on one of the bigger names.
there's alot of talent in the british ring at welter, so he will have a hard job ahead of him.

Think we'll have a beeter idea of what he can still do after Dec 9th.

He'll have to be extremely impressive in his comeback fights to get any chance of a rematch with Jennings.

Best of luck to Jimmy in his comeback, didn't realise he was losing his son when Jenning stopped him. Will always remember his fight with David Barnes, thought Vincent was robbed that night. Good luck Jimmy Vincent!!

Yes, Pat's show is still on on the 11th December.

However, it's doubtful Vincent will box on it - he has a couple of niggling injuries.
