Very interesting and Very close to call. Both men were in their late 30s, Moore(34) and Louis(36). Moore's record in 1951 was 16-1-1 while Louis' was 7-1. There would almost certianly have been a few knockdowns as each man was susceptible to being floored.
Moore spent half the time in 1951 as a LHW but this should not be held against Moore as he would only have had to put on a few lbs to meet Louis at HW. Louis undoubtedly was past his best form in '51 but was still a very dangerous puncher. Moore was the ageless warrior and I would go as far to say that at 34 he was in or near his best fighting days.
Lets not forget that from 1952-retirement, Moore faught 65 more times with decent success against some pretty damn good fighters into his 50's! Each man faught Marciano but Moore met him 4 years later than Louis and even at 38 Moore put up a better performance in my opinion.
As for the matchup itself I would lean towards a Moore Decision or a late stoppage by either man. Pretty vague I know, but this is a pretty difficult match to figure out. Id say Moore had the better odds in '51....55/45 or 60/40.
Tough one BB49!
edit-Archie Moore's ages.

yeah, I thought I had read he was born in 1916. Pretty much the same scenario as I described above given the discrepency in age.BrocktonBlockbuster49 wrote:great post sockdoll.
actually sockdoll, archie moore was 34 in 1951. not 37. when moore fought marciano in 1955, moore was 38 years old.
most sources state moore was born in 1916, consensous says so. our very own boxrec has moore being 38 when he fought marciano.
