Roy Jones Jr. versus Earnie Shavers
Roy Jones Jr. versus Earnie Shavers
12 rounds.
Re: Roy Jones Jr. versus Earnie Shavers
I'd favor Roy to win every round after the first few and take a UD. He'd be 100% safety first against a guy like Shavers and he could beat him i think in that mode.

I hate to agree with you on this fight only because I'm such a huge fan of Shavers.
But Shavers only has a punchers chance and with Jones' skill and reflexes I don't see it happening

For the record. In a theoretical world where we could see this fight happen I'd be cheering for Earnie Shavers as well.tiny_acres wrote: ↑26 Jun 2026, 21:10I hate to agree with you on this fight only because I'm such a huge fan of Shavers.

I just can't see him catching Roy clean.

Re: Roy Jones Jr. versus Earnie Shavers
Is Earnie using the same cheat codes (PEDs) as Roy? Regardless, Roy's never been hit as hard as this in his entire career. I think Shavers is going to land shots to the side of the head in the clinch and rough Jones up. I can see Shavers landing enough for a come from behind stoppage.

Remember though Shavers had dog sh*t Stamina. Not questionable stamina. Outright BAD stamina.keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑27 Jun 2026, 08:17 Is Earnie using the same cheat codes (PEDs) as Roy? After 5 or 6 rounds, his power and punch output is halved.

Yeah, but he ain't fighting a natural heavyweight, he's fighting a much smaller man. Roy's shots would be like a pea shooter.gilgamesh wrote: ↑27 Jun 2026, 14:06Remember though Shavers had dog sh*t Stamina. Not questionable stamina. Maybe. He seemed reasonably strong against Ruiz. Buckled him with a shot a few times as I recall. Nothing big, but enough to get his respect.keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑27 Jun 2026, 15:14Yeah, but he ain't fighting a natural heavyweight, he's fighting a much smaller man. Obviously Roy ain't hitting like Shavers, but I don't think Shavers can just eat his shots as if they don't matter.
Re: Roy Jones Jr. versus Earnie Shavers
As much I admired RJJ, Shavers would pull a second Tarver, but in a heavyweight version by catching Jones with a powerful left jab and following up with a right hand that would put Jones to sleep in 3 rounds at best as Jones would receive the worst knockout loss than Tarver ever gave him.

I don't think that the great Roy Jones Jr would have signed for the fight. It's way too risky!
Re: Roy Jones Jr. versus Earnie Shavers
I think Scorpio 83 nailed it .
Re: Roy Jones Jr. versus Earnie Shavers
Jones by comfortable decision win. He can also stop Shavers if he put more pressure, but also in risk of getting lucky punch KOed

Re: Roy Jones Jr. versus Earnie Shavers
The thing about Shavers is that he kept throwing one bomb after another. Jones was great defensively, but he never fought anyone remotely like Shavers before. Obviously, Shavers would miss a lot more than he would land. However, it would only take one and it would not have to be on the button. It would be just a matter of time before Jones is on the deck, and he is not getting up. Jones had mediocre power at 175, there is no way that he going to hurt Shavers.
No way in the world that Jones ever would taken this fight.
