Thanks for linking the most recent previous thread on this over-discussed topic. It saved me the time of digging up my post from an old thread...

 You apparently graduated from the short bus to the clown car!! :brick:

Holy was a natural cruiser who would have held the world CW title for a decade or longer if he hadnt moved up against natural super HWs like Bowe and Lewis. By the time Evander fought Ruiz he was totally shot and pushing 40.
That's the thing, even a shot Holyfield was tough as nails.

Holyfield could have ruled cruiser for as long as he saw fit, but he wanted the heavyweight title. Usky has done nothing to suggest so far he would have had his beating. Even past his peak, Holyfield gave a prime Lewis a lot of trouble in both fights.
Yes, and prime Lewis was one of the best heavyweights ever H2H having great size, power, skills, good speed (for such a huge guy) and a great trainer.
If Usyk dominates cruiser like Holyfield did and then goes H2H with the modern-day equivalents of Bowe (1 win in 3), Lewis (1-0-1) and Tyson (2-0) THEN we can have a serious discussion about Holy vs Usyk!! :OhYes:

Until then this speculation amounts to nothing more than fantasy boxing.

Since when did Holyfield go 1-0-1 with Lewis?

Holyfield wins this one via a close unanimous decision, in what would inevitably be a frantic action-filled spectacle that becomes very physical in nature during the later rounds.

I just feel that Oleksandr would struggle to overcome a teak-tough machine of a 200lbs version of Holyfield, who consistently threw punches in bunches. The superior work-rate of the American would have gradually worn-down the exquisitely-skilled Ukraine boxer.

We saw Oleksandr Usyk struggle at times to cope with an all-out attacking fighting style in the Mairis Briedis fight. For me, Holyfield would be busier and more powerful than the Latvian and he'd also throw many more stiff jabs and straight right hands, which often seemed to trouble the Ukraine.

Also, I’m not sure if Oleksandr Usyk’s shots are powerful enough to hurt Evander Holyfield either.

The fight would be competitive, for sure, but I’m confident that ‘The Real Deal’ would emerge victorious.

Usyk couldn't make cruiser if the weigh in was on fight day .He rehydrates to 215. At heavy, Holyfield wins. Holyfield would have been light heavyweight champ if he weighed in 30 hours before the fight. He'd probably rehydrate to 190 or 192.

My bad...thanks for the correction. Evander was 0-1-1 vs Lennox.

Good point!! Evander weighed only 176 in his 4th pro bout and was well under 180 in all of his first 4 pro bouts!! Holyfield would beat Usyk at light heavy, cruiser or heavy. It was just over a year ago (the thread I quoted above) we had an extensive debate about who would win a fight between the two and a majority of commenters here at Current Scene agreed Holyfield would win. I guess Ritchie Blackmore wasnt here at Current Scene back then.

I don't see how Usyk can be favoured here.

Holyfield has the best resume in terms of who he has fought.

He is far more proven than Usyk.

Holyfield has fought 5 of the top 15 Heavyweights of all time. .

Not to mention being undisputed Cruiserweight Champion and the best if all time in that division,.

Holyfield failed to beat Lewis, lost twice to Bowe, only beat old man Foreman, beat old man Holmes and beat post-prison Tyson. Proven at what?

Usyk's cruiserweight opponents are also superior to Holyfield's.

Best Arguments for Usyk:
• Usyk became the modern era’s four-belt undisputed cruiserweight champion.
• He won major fights away from home, beating Głowacki in Poland, Briedis in Latvia and Gassiev in Russia.
• His cruiserweight run was technically cleaner, with fewer wars and fewer visibly difficult moments.
• His résumé has strong depth, including wins over Głowacki, Briedis, Gassiev, Huck, Hunter and Bellew.

Best Arguments for Holyfield:
• Whatever Usyk achieved at cruiserweight, Holyfield did it first.
• Holyfield competed under the original 190lbs cruiserweight limit, making his dominance a stricter weight-class achievement.
• Holyfield has the best single cruiserweight win on either résumé: Dwight Muhammad Qawi, an International Boxing Hall of Famer, former elite light-heavyweight champion and reigning WBA cruiserweight champion.
• He beat Qawi twice: first in a brutal 15-round classic, then by fourth-round knockout in the rematch, giving him both the great war and the decisive tactical correction.
• Carlos De León adds historical depth: he was not just a belt-holder, but one of the division’s defining early cruiserweights and a multiple-time WBC champion.
• Holyfield proved championship quality over 15 rounds, which Usyk, through no fault of his own, never had to do.
