Boxing is the one sport that keeps fucking it's fans but you all keep coming back for more. You are all like an abused spouse that just can't leave.

Guess the ref saw something in Bells eyes that we didn't? :maybe: Anyhow I've seen many worse stoppages. Bell didn't protest much either.

Bruce Carrington dominates Rene Palacios to retain featherweight title

WBC featherweight champion Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington made the first successful defense of his title against Rene Palacios, now 19-1-1 (10 KOs), via mostly uneventful unanimous 12-round unanimous decision.

The contest was chief support for Abdullah Mason-Albert Bell at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

Coming off a split decision victory over Sulaiman Segawa in January, “Zurdo” Palacios was outboxed for large parts of the contest.

However, what transpired was a routine snoozer in which neither fighter pleased the fans as Carrington cruised to 18-0 (10 KOs).

Carrington hit the mat in the eighth, but it was ruled a slip by referee Harvey Dock. Unfazed, Carrington regained dominance, spearing Palacios with his faster hands.

To his credit, after being pecked for 10 rounds by Carrington’s jab, and to the sound of the crowd jeering, Palacios hurt Carrington to the body in Round 11 to create a sense of drama heading into the last.

Palacios didn’t do enough, however. The scores were 116-112, 17-11 and 118-110 in Carrington's favour..

“[Palacios] came here when a lot of people wouldn’t accept a fight with me,” said Carrington post-fight. “We went the full 12 rounds. There were a few rabbit punches here and there, but that’s part of the game. I finished like the champion I am. Body shots are part of the game, but I knew I had to go on and finish the fight.

"I want to unify. It’s time to get this featherweight division moving. I want to fight the best in the business."

Abdullah Mason-Albert Bell viewing figures peaked at 820,000 according to TNT

If the viewing figures released via TNT Sports for the July 4 Abdullah Mason-Albert Bell event are accurate, then the appeal of boxing in the US would appear alive and well.

The card, which was delivered by TNT, DAZN and truTV, is reported to have peaked at 820,000 viewers with 661,000 average viewers. The source for the figures is Neilson Media Research with all data coming from the organization’s National TV Toolbox.

The numbers get even higher when clocking up the audience from the entire event. According to the TNT press release, the pre-fight press conference, the weigh-in, the fights, and the pre- and post-fight shows, collectively reached “more than 3.2 million viewers” across the three platforms.

Throw in social media figures and the numbers get even more impressive: “Across TNT Sports and DAZN social platforms on Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok and YouTube, fans embraced the event at scale, generating 139.7 million impressions, 108.1 million video views and 5.2 million engagements.” According to TNT, that makes it the most engaged “non-PPV” boxing event of the year.

In a dramatic contest, Mason rallied down the stretch to halt Bell in the 12th and final round to retain his WBO lightweight title.

TNT is reported to be in approximately 70m homes in the US. TruTV is estimated to be in just over 60m homes. DAZN have never disclosed their viewership.
