I'd have to favor Mercer. Cooney might have the advantage early on, but Mercer's toughness is ultimately gonna win out. Plus Cooney is going to be there to be hit the entire fight. He's a slugger as well so he's not going to be outboxing Ray, he's gonna be trying to knock him out, which will leave him right there to be hit by Ray.

Early rounds would be brutal for Mercer. 50-50 bout, imo.

This is a tough call, but I kinda think Mercer would win it. He was incredibly durable and packed KO power, while Gerry was hittable and chinny. But Cooney's powerful left-hook, just maybe, could do enough damage in the early rounds that Ray loses.

One possible way that Gerry might win is via eye injury. His left-hook might cut Ray or close his eye. If that happened in the first round or two, then Cooney would have a serious chance.

But if I had to bet money, I guess I'd go with Mercer, by stoppage.
