Walker was pretty deflated after that very emphatic defeat.

He's had a little boy and I think he's turned his attention to bringing in a regular income and the last I heard he got a diploma (can't remember exact title) and was looking to sort out premises to do personal training.

I saw him leave the ring after what is currently his penultimate fight against Howard Clarke. He'd struggled against Clakka and was actually tearful after just squeaking home. Seemed to know he didn't have whatever he used to have. A shame to see him like that.

Walker certainly entertained and did his best, a blood and guts type of scrapper. I wish him well if he has packed in. :TU:

Yes, Walker was always a very entertaining fighter, I hope he was well paid.

If he has retired I wish him well. :TU:

I don't think Hennessey ruined him, anyone who saw Walker fight knew he was going to be a big underdog against Karmazan, but it was a calculated risk, once it became apparent that Walker was overmatched then his corner threw the towel in.
Walker got a good payday, and also to compete against a world class boxer, you've got to see where your limits are.

Didn't Jimmy Vincent and Spencer Fearon show his limits though?

All the more reason to take the title shot/pay day when it was on the cards I suppose.

An exciting, good value fighter.

Looking at Walkers record i noticed John Humphrey, whats happened to him? after the loss to Walker he took a couple of years out, but came back last year and had 4 wins, took the Southern area Middle and Masters title, but nothing at all this year, has he retired?

I agree with the Karmazin fight being a calculated risk, they threw in the towel early enough to prevent him from being too damaged.

The Vincent fight propably took a hell of a lot more out of him but what a fight it was. You could say Walker ruined himself by getting into wars at every level and stepping up to light middle when he really wasn't big enough imo. If he has retired he's left us with some great fights though

To be honest, if I was at the Ally Pally that night I would have felt a little short changed. It didn't feel like a calculated risk, it felt like a payday to me. I had the impression that McCraken KNEW Walker was out of his depth and also knew that Walker was too brave for his own good. He knew that Walker wasn't facing Spencer Feron and he knew that he wasn't going to win. This despite his pre fight hype job that he was going to win.

It reminded me alot of Benn vs Collins II.

At the end of the day Walker gave the fans their moneys worth and way more on several occasions! He was never going to beat Karmazin but it was worth a shot and he no doubt got a career high purse for that. Nobody can begrudge him that!

McCraken knew that the only way Walker was going to win was by catching Karmazin cold, once that didn't happen it was a matter of how much Walker could take without getting to badly hurt, at the time of McCraken waving the towel in surrender there were a few boo's, but there was no way back into the fight for Walker and it was a good time to call a halt.

Walker was never suited for Light Middle, i think he was one of those guys who were just in a catchweight situation, getting to welter was a nightmare , but Light Middle was meaning fighting guys who were to big.

I paid for ringside and didn't feel in the least bit short changed. Walker gave it a go. I think most knew he barely had a prayer, but he still tried hard. Those body shots he took really hurt.

He was still on a high after thumping Humphrey, despite knockdowns since then, and he prepared well for Karmazin.

I think you might be able to take aim at McCracken for knowing Walker would lose, but David went in there to win. The whole occasion got to him, but more than anything Karmazin was way to good. This happens all the time and to boxers who have given far less to the sport than Walker.

Sorry, it was McCraken (maybe Hennessey) I was taking aim at. Walker went there to win, Walker didn't stop the fight.

What did anger me was that McCraken, a fighter you would normally associate with honesty, was doing all the hype before the fight saying Walker would win. So was Hennessey..... Okay Mick had a fight to promoter, but McCraken could have get it quiet.

It was a bit like Benn's trainer (Sanders?) saying that the old fire was back ahead of Collins II and pulling him out at the nearest opportunity and basically saying after than he didn't want to see Nigel have the same fate as McClellan and revealed some health worries he had. Like Walker, again Nigel came in there too win and again it wasn't he who threw the towel in.

The biggest time I have felt short changed though was thanks to Jeff Fenech ahead of Tyson vs McBride. All this absolute shite about him being back, again he pulled out Tyson at the nearest opportunity and then had the balls to say - well at least I got a four round fighter, before he wasn't a one round fighter.

I think in all 3 circumstances they knew that either their charge didn't stand a snowballs chance in hell, or they knew (in Fenech's case) that their charge was out of shape, out of love with the game and shot. Its NOT their job to promote the fight - so why didn't they keep a low profile.

Didn't like McCracken the trainer after him sitting with Thirwell in the interview after he lost to Gary Beardsley and telling Beardsley there was no way he won the fight. Nothing has changed my mind, don't rate him as a trainer as i've not yet seen a fighter take the advice he offers between rounds

I see where you was coming from Stujones about McCracken, I was perhaps agreeing with you (possibly, because I don't recall McCracken hyping Walker's chances).

I think the connection between Walker and Benn/Tyson is bit off the mark.

Surely Benn/Tyson were worn out old veterans fooling themselves and the public, where as Walker was close to his peak and kidding himself (I say that very respectfully) but in an effort to think positive ?

Yeah, I can see what you mean - but for Benn and Walker's case its only the trainers I feel let down by. I think Benn trained hard and thought he could catch Collins. It was the trainers who seemed to really believe they had no chance, despite them talk up their fighter.

Tyson surely must knew he was in appauling shape and Fenech shouldn't have lied either.
