Speaking on his YouTube channel, Froch on Fighting, ‘The Cobra’ made his feelings clear about the potential early morning fight.

“I don’t know why they are worried too much about the American audience. It is a British fight, with two British fighters, everyone I excited about these two coming together and getting it on, it needs to be on British soil at Wembley Stadium or Tottenham Hotspur’s, wherever, at a reasonable hour – 10 o’clock.

“In the middle of November, it is going to be freezing cold. We don’t mind being freezing cold at 10/11 o’clock, but not at four in the f***ing morning, it is taking the p**s.

“I feel like Turki Al-Alshikh may be paying a lip service or putting together a bit of an excuse by saying ‘I am waiting to see what Transport For London or the police in London are saying,’. I don’t think that they are going to allow 79,000 fans to leave Wembley Stadium at four in the morning, it is not going to happen.

“If they are going to try and accommodate for American T.V. then it might as well be over in America.”

Anthony Joshua-Tyson Fury is a 'cash grab', says Teddy Atlas

Teddy Atlas is not expecting any surprises this weekend when Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury take on overmatched opposition ahead of what the great coach labels a ‘money grab’ showdown between the two British heavyweights.

Joshua, 29-4 (26 KOs), takes on Kristian Prenga, 20-1 (20 KOs), in Saudi Arabia Saturday in his first bout since breaking Jake Paul’s jaw in December. The 36-year-old subsequently survived a car crash in Nigeria that killed two of his best friends.

One must go back to 2024 for when Joshua last mixed with world class opposition. He was stopped in five rounds by Daniel Dubois in a bid for the IBF title.

Fury’s stock has also slumped in recent years. Fury, 35-2 (24 KOs), was twice outpointed by Oleksandr Usyk in 2024 before returning in April to decision Arslanbek Makhmudov over 12 rounds in London.

On Friday the 37-year-old fights in Thailand in a bizarre matchup with the shop-worn Maruisz Wach, 39-13 (20 KOs). Wach, 46, hasn’t won a meaningful fight since the last decade and was the loser in seven of his last 10 bouts.

“I think the warm-up fights are pretty much foregone conclusions,” Atlas told CanadaCasino. “I’m not knocking anyone who gets in the ring, but in a practical sense, they are foregone conclusions.

“Wach is 46 years old and has been knocked out five times. With Joshua and Prenga, I think it is all up to Joshua and how long the fight goes.

“But we don’t know where Joshua is emotionally coming off that near-fatal car accident. We don’t know how that has impacted him. We saw how a car accident may have impacted Errol Spence. With Joshua, I definitely tell you it has impacted him. I just don’t know how much and how. If he is in a halfway decent place, I think he goes behind the jab, catches Prenga and the fight is over, maybe in two rounds.

“If he is not, maybe he does not do anything for a few rounds and allows Prenga to survive. But at the end of the day, there should only be one guy left standing, and it should be Joshua.”

Atlas also believes that the only reason Joshua and Fury will eventually fight is because they’re both looking to earn as much money as possible while being past their peaks.

“It’s definitely a money grab,” Atlas said. “Joshua is two fights on from being knocked out badly against Dubois, Fury has lost a couple of times to Usyk, and both of them have lost their most significant fights of recent times.

“There is no arguing that both of them have slippage in their performances and in their careers at this point in their lives. They are not spring chickens anymore. They have been in tough fights, and it shows.”

Regardless, a contest between them could still deliver.

“[Muhammad] Ali and [Joe] Frazier in Manila [third fight] were too late. Their skills had been eroded, they had been diminished, but it became one of the great heavyweight fights because they were more available to each other than they would have been when their skills were sharper.

“The one thing that was not diminished was their character, their resolve, their determination and their championship qualities. So yes, Fury vs Joshua is late, and yes, it’s a money grab, but it still might give you some of that because they’re heavyweights.”

'It'll be amazing': Joshua talks up Fury clash at Wembley

Anthony Joshua has just completed his second camp since deciding to begin training with Oleksandr Usyk's team.

On Saturday, the former two-time unified heavyweight champion gets the chance to show what he's been working on when fighting Albania's Kristian Prenga (20-1, 20 KOs) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The event will be available to watch and streamed exclusively on DAZN pay-per-view.

Joshua's December knockout of Jake Paul was seen as a formality prior but the 36-year-old clearly learned enough during preparations, entrusting his future to Iegor Golub and the team who propelled Usyk to the very top.

Joshua's decision to link-up with a man who beat him twice raised eyebrows when announced but he has thrown himself into his new routine and seems happy with the choice. That doesn't mean that he has been able to relax.

"You can't settle. If you're settled, they ain't pushing you hard enough," Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs) told The Ring.

"But I respect and know the team. I know what's expected of me. I'm settled in that way but definitely not settled with the amount of hard work that comes my way. It's unsettling. But they want results. They're not supposed to make it comfortable."

This weekend's fight gives Joshua and his team another useful chance to get used to each other as a long-awaited fight with his British rival Tyson Fury draws ever closer.

Provided Joshua beats Prenga and Fury beats Polish warhorse Mariusz Wach in Thailand on Friday, the build-up to a long overdue fight between them can really start.

Although both are now in their mid-30s, interest in the fight has never been higher.

Over the past few weeks, speculation has raged as to where and when a fight would take place. London, Los Angeles and Las Vegas have all been mentioned as potential venues and start times ranging from 9pm to 2am BST have been mooted.
Given the UK's climate, it would be a leap of faith to arrange an outdoor fight in the early hours of a winter morning.

However, both are accustomed to performing in front of huge crowds in UK stadiums and Joshua would love for the fight to take place in front of the British fans.

"That would be amazing," he said. "God willing I get through Saturday, everything I've worked on happens in the ring and what I say is what I do. I'll become victorious blahdy blahdy blah and what I believe, happens.

"It'll be amazing to for it to be [in the UK]. Imagine that? What is the biggest stadium in the UK? Wembley. Spot on. That would be amazing.

"That's a dream. Wow. You know, we're working towards bringing it to a reality and it starts with Saturday."

New venue emerges for Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury mega-fight

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury could clash in New York as talks continue over a venue for the British mega-fight.

Joshua and Fury have been on a collision course for a decade without setting foot in the same ring. Both men signed to fight each other earlier this year with the bout pencilled in for Wembley in November. But Saudi boxing chief Turki Al-Sheikh is insisting on a 4am start time in the UK in order to capture the American TV market.

That means the fight could be moved Stateside with Las Vegas and Los Angeles in the running to play host. But promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed the clash could instead land at Madison Square Garden in the Big Apple. "Netflix want the biggest audience possible, and they feel like a mid-afternoon start time in the US will jeopardise the potential to maximise the audience," he said.

"I think they probably feel like a 2am. start in the UK versus a 10pm start won’t actually change the audience size in the UK. "We’ve had a meeting about this but there's been nothing in the last two weeks, and I think there’s probably a lot of work behind the scenes now with Turki maybe talking to [London Mayor] Sadiq Khan. But a lot of the Americans want to do it at MSG; not Vegas, they want it at MSG."

Joshua and Fury signed contracts which contained a clause guaranteeing the fight would take place in the UK. But the fighters could yet be convinced to waive that right. "It was always going to be in the UK," added Hearn. "There was never any doubt this fight was in the UK until there were some approaches from America in terms of the revenue that could be achieved at MSG.

"Netflix are probably saying they prefer it there and these are elements that we don’t actually have any control over because we’re not really the purse strings behind the fight, Turki Al-Sheikh is. When you sign a contract, you expect that to be honoured and followed, and we’ve never done a deal with Turki where he hasn’t done that.

"I don’t think he’s trying to pull a fast one. I think he’s paying a lot of money for the fight, and he wants to make it as big a success for every stakeholder involved."

Looks set to be in USA this one. It’s a shame for fans of the fighters but the fights as out of date as Mayweather v Pac-Man if not even more so. With how Joshua has looked recently you could even say it’s as bad as Louis v Marciano.

Tyson Fury's manager makes plea to the WBA regarding Anthony Joshua contest

Tyson Fury’s manager Spencer Brown has called for the WBA to sanction Fury’s upcoming fight with Anthony Joshua for the organization's 'super' heavyweight title.

It is almost all set for Fury and Joshua to finally face off later this year after nearly a decade of the fight falling to get off the ground. Both Joshua and Fury have held various versions of the heavyweight title over the years. Neither currently hold a belt, however. The WBC 'humanitarian' belt that is on the line when Fury fights 46-year-old Mariusz Wach Friday does not really count.

The now former unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk recently decided to vacate all three of his heavyweight titles [WBA 'super', WBC and IBF]. WBC interim titleholder Agit Kabayel was elevated to full champion and WBA 'regular' beltholder Murat Gassiev saw his status rise by virtue of being the lone WBA kingpin. The IBF strap is yet to be contested though a bout between Frank Sanchez and Moses Itauma has been ordered.

The WBA does not currently have a 'super' champion at heavyweight, a title that historically is awarded to a unified champion but, recently, the sanctioning body promoted welterweight boss Rolly Romero to such a status.

Brown has called for the organization to sanction Fury against Joshua – who are both previous holders of the WBA 'super' title – for the belt.

“I want to see the WBA [on the line] against AJ for the super fight,” Brown told Boxing Scene. “I'd love to see that because it's vacant. Why couldn't them two fight for it? Could there be any better a fight? One of them will become a three-time world champion. I love that. If you're watching WBA, get in touch, please.”

Joshua faces Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, one day after Fury battles Wach.

Wembley Stadium's local council yet to be approached regarding Anthony Joshua-Tyson Fury

With Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury in action this weekend it has been speculated that an announcement regarding the all-British superfight will be made should both win as expected.

The location of the bout has long been up for debate with Wembley Stadium thought to be leading the way to play host if certain conditions can be met. Those conditions, set by Saudi Arabia's financier Turki Alalshikh and streaming giants Netflix, would mean the ring walks starting no earlier than 2am and fans potentially being in the vast stadium, and then trying to get home, past 3am during a time of year that is typically cold in the UK.

However, according to Sky Sports, Brent Council in London is yet to be contacted regarding an extension to the stadium’s existing 11pm curfew with view to the proposed November showdown. The local council is part of the stadium's safety advisory group and would need to review and approve any request to bend existing rules.

Alalshikh, who hopes to organize the bout alongside Netflix, had previously suggested he was awaiting ‘good news’ from the council so the bout – containing the two biggest names in British boxing – can take place in Britain. It is understood that Netflix, too, are keen on the later start to boost the global streaming audience.

It remains unclear if a proposal of any kind has yet been made, however.

It was previously reported that a venue in the US would be secured for the contest, to much criticism from fans.

Boxing Scene understands that the contract Joshua, 29-4 (26 KOs), has signed stipulates that the fight must land in the UK.

I think [fight with Fury] should be in the UK,” Joshua this week told TalkSport.

"We are both from there, and it would be good for the fans that have been supporting us since our debuts.

"But I let my team deal with that kind of stuff."

Tyson Fury nor Anthony Joshua belong in Hall of Fame, says Carl Froch

Outspoken former super middleweight champion Carl Froch doesn’t believe that Tyson Fury or Anthony Joshua should one day be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Froch, 49, retired from boxing in 2014 after knocking out George Groves in the eighth round of their rematch at Wembley Stadium. In 2023, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame himself.

Froch – known as “The Cobra” – spent his entire 33-2 (24 KOs) career under the guidance of trainer Robert McCracken, the same trainer who Joshua opted to leave in 2021 following the first of two losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

It was under McCracken, however, when Joshua was at his best. He twice held each of the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles over a five-year period but Froch doesn’t believe that should be enough for “AJ” to enter the hallowed walls in Canastota.

“At the time [of being champion], AJ fought most of the people who were mandatory for his belts,” Froch told Betpack.

“He beat Wladimir Klitschko and fought the likes of Alexander Povetkin, so he has got names on his record. But he never fought Deontay Wilder, and he never fought Luis Ortiz when Ortiz was a dangerous name.

Then you look at the way he [twice] lost to Usyk, the way he got badly knocked out by Daniel Dubois and the defeat to Andy Ruiz, who hasn’t got many other significant wins on his record. Unfortunately, Joshua’s record eliminates him from being in the Hall of Fame. It’s not me simply saying he doesn’t deserve it or he isn’t good enough. Just look down the record. There are too many negatives, and I think that will eliminate him from being selected for the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

“Eddie Hearn once said Joshua should be in the Hall of Fame because of what he’s done for boxing. I disagree. The International Boxing Hall of Fame should be based on results, who you beat and who beat you. Yes, Joshua is a two-time heavyweight champion, but he’s also been flattened a few times. You have to be realistic. I don’t think he gets in.”

Fury, too, has twice held major belts in the banner division. His title triumphs were impressive, too, as he ended the long reign of Klitschko in 2015 and thrashed Wilder in a 2020 rematch. Not good enough, says Froch.

“Fury hasn’t got enough names on his record either. His biggest wins are Wladimir Klitschko and Deontay Wilder, and he has now lost twice to Usyk. Where are all the other significant wins on Tyson Fury’s career that put green ticks in all the boxes? There aren’t any.

"So, unfortunately, they won’t be joining 'The Cobra' anytime soon, or Roberto Durán, Sugar Ray Leonard, Muhammad Ali, Roy Jones Jnr, Bernard Hopkins, Floyd Mayweather and the other names in the upper echelons of boxing.”

Joshua and Fury are expected to meet later in the year if they beat Kristian Prenga and Mariusz Wach respectively this weekend. Should that fight occur, the victor would strengthen their legacy.

Froch doesn’t necessarily agree, however. He is also taking issue with the reported plan to push back the start time of Joshua-Fury to the early hours of the morning so it can draw a wide global audience.

“Why are we accommodating American television for a British superfight?” Froch continued. “I’ve got reservations about whether it’s even a superfight now anyway, because there are no world titles at stake, they’ve both been beaten and they’re both past their best.

“It is a fight I’m going to watch and, like Eddie Hearn said, when these two come together you get interested and excited to a degree. But come on, I’m not that excited. If those two didn’t fight, I wouldn’t care less. Six or seven years ago, it was probably the biggest fight in British boxing history. Now they’re both past their best and it’s a money grab. It’s probably third or fourth on the list of the biggest British fights.

"I also wouldn’t hold [London mayor] Sadiq Khan responsible if it doesn’t happen, because logistically, with Transport for London, the police and British Transport Police, they’ve all got to look at nearly 80,000 fans leaving the stadium at four in the morning and ask where they’re all going to go. It’s a potential fornicating nightmare, isn’t it?”

It seems that Carl Froch believes that Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are less deserving of an IBHOF place than existing inductees such as Barry McGuigan, Arturo Gatti, Vinny Paz, Ray Mancini, Rocky Graziano, Jess Willard, Ingemar Johansson and James J. Braddock. :o

Tyson Fury ‘100 per cent’ confident of beating Anthony Joshua after rounds banked against Mariusz Wach

Tyson Fury immediately turned his attention to Anthony Joshua after stopping Mariusz Wach in Pattaya, Thailand.

Fury returned to the ring in unusual surroundings on Friday night, stopping the 46-year-old Wach after seven rounds at Pattaya's Max Muaythai Stadium. Fury was far from his best, and seemed to go through the motions against his veteran opponent. The contest served as a tune-up ahead of the proposed clash with Joshua later this year, but if Joshua was in attendance he would have surely been licking his lips.

Despite this, Fury saw the seven rounds banked against Wach as a positive ahead of what will surely be a much tougher assignment later this year.

“It went really well,” Fury told Boxing Scene in the carpark following his win. “I got a good seven rounds in, plenty of punches landed, entertained everybody, had a good time. I got out of there in one piece and I’ll go home to my family. Thank you everybody.”

Asked whether Joshua was now next, Fury left little doubt.

“100 per cent, hopefully,” he said. “Let's get it on.”

Joshua is due to return to action against Kristian Prenga on Saturday, though Fury revealed he has no plans to travel to Saudi Arabia to watch his long-time rival.

“No, I'm going to go straight home,” Fury said.

Fury also backed Joshua to overcome Prenga, comparing the 20-1 (20 KOs) Albanian to Daniel Baer who was stopped in the opener by Simon Ibekwe before Fury left the arena.

“Yeah [Joshua will win],” he said. “Prenga is probably like that fella who just fought at the end there.”

And when asked if he was confident of defeating Joshua should the fight finally be made, Fury's response was emphatic.

“100 per cent, please,” he said before jumping in a car headed to the airport. Will his flight be heading to his wife Paris in the Isle of Man, or to Joshua in Jeddah. We will find out tomorrow.

Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua: Proposed heavyweight super fight moves step closer to being in USA over UK

Turki Alalshikh, who is organising the all-British bout between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, now prefers the clash to be in the USA; Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn says the contract they signed was for a fight in the UK

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua's long-awaited heavyweight showdown looks increasingly likely to be in America rather than the UK.

Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that Turki Alalshikh, who is organising the all-British bout, now prefers the clash to be in the USA.

Alalshikh previously said that he wants the fight to take place at a time that works for a global audience and would hold talks with the Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, over a later-than-usual start time.

However, Sky Sports News revealed earlier in the week that Brent Council are yet to be contacted about extending the curfew at Wembley Stadium to allow a 2am ring walk.

Speaking to DAZN ahead of Joshua's warm-up fight with Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, Hearn said: "We've been told in the last 24 hours that [a fight in America] is what they want.

"That doesn't tally up with the contract that we signed. Until we're happy, we expect every point of that contract to be followed. I feel like this fight should be taking place in the UK.

"Anthony Joshua insisted that the contract stated that the fight must be in the UK.

"If they want to change the contract, then we have to renegotiate the contract. Which, by the way, is not a problem. But it's a conversation we have to have."

Fury: I got through my test, what about AJ?

Fury remains unconvinced that Joshua will agree to the fight and questioned whether his rival has the "guts" to face him.

The 37-year-old, speaking after his seventh-round stoppage of Mariusz Wach in a non-televised bout in Thailand on Friday, referenced Joshua opting not to get in the ring with him after his victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April.

Fury said: "I got through my test. Let's see if [Joshua] gets through his test. The biggest test of it all is how big his balls are. I think he's a big s***house.

"In Tottenham in front of 70,000 people, he never had the guts to get in the ring and face me. Let's see if he ever does. I'm not convinced.

"I'll regroup. Hopefully the next big fight is signed next week, and we head wherever we're going to head.

"Is it gonna be in Vegas? Is it gonna be in New York? Is it gonna be in Ireland? Is it gonna be in London? Who knows, Belfast maybe? It might even be here in Pattaya, Thailand!"

After this weekend I think us fans need to come up with a name for the bout.

Chinny v Fatty

Has a nice ring to it.

Seriously though, this fight doesn't need to be on US primetime Netflix.

It's a domestic battle between two very past their prime fighters which, I think, will still be a great fight (Fury tko 8) but it has to be in the UK at 10pm on a Saturday night.

Turks, Dana & the rest can f*ck off. This fight between the 6th & 7th best Heavyweights in the UK has to be in the UK.

After last night

AJ probably came back too soon.
AJ has no business fighting Fury at the end of the year. needs at least wait till April
The hype is dead and who wants to pay big money to see two shot fighters in a 2 round shoot out. AJ will probably get stopped early anything that connects on his chin hurts him.

Who was worse? Aj or fury?

Both were terrible.

Fury vs a 46 year old journeyman who’s best win in the last 8 years is kingpin… it really shouldent be sanctioned couldn’t really dint him and actualy got hit a little bit.

AJ vs a no one got dropped (Mabey caught cold, Mabey prenga can actualy punch, probably AJs chin is gone)…

I have it near a 50-50 still. Not because they are equally good.

By the way… both of these guys were in there prime when they beat klitchco… but klitchco was a couple of years older than either of them currently is now… just an aside for when people are looking at all time top heavies… these guys beating kilt dosent mean they definatly ever surpassed him.

The one thing about Joshua, is despite appearing chinny, he hits like a mule, Fury the other night was caught by a few rights from Wach, he'll not take those from Joshua at this stage of his career I don't think, Fury could easily club him to bits but is just as likely to get flattened himself.

I'd say Joshua. He's getting dropped by arm punches now. Fury usually fights down to the level of his opponent, he'll be in better shape against Joshua. Joshua is in with a punchers chance, but that's all.
