By about Round 7 or 8 Roach was looking worn down, and throwing less and less, and the writing was on the wall.

Good win for Zepeda.
Too early to say Zepeda took the fight over by the 3rd Gilg, it wasn't like Roach was fading by that point.
I thought the first two rounds were close and could have even been shared, but by the 3rd and 4th yes Zepeda was making his mark.
He never lost any rounds after the 3rd to me. So I'd say that's taking the fight over. He wasn't ahead on the cards after the 3rd, but he grabbed the momentum of the fight by the horns, and never let it go.

10, and I think you could argue he won 11 straight rounds as the 2nd round was close.

117-111 for me as well, Roach was landing some quality work throughout but just couldn't match the intensity of Zepeda, I think once Zepeda got into his groove after a few rounds, Roach didn't have the confidence he could hang for 12 and Zepeda just put it on him like he does overwhelming Roach with volume, backing him up, punches in bunches, Roach was feeling the heat and Zepeda built up a lead, Roach did seem to have a bit success later on but again not enough to match Zepeda's work, well deserved win for Zepeda

you either have fast twitch or slow twitch... fast twitch gives you power, slow twitch gives you endurance..... So, you cant really truely have both... but, hypotheticaly, zepeda with tank power.... would that be the p4p best ever boxer? (or tank with zepeda volume...)

people been underestimating my boy bill zepeda, the man is a freak with that fitness. reminder that this dude threw like 130 punches a round for TWELVE rounds vs jo diaz, and not tappy arms punches either, he was digging. he was even keeping the punches flowing vs a defensive master like shakur (albeit outpointed clearly) which hardly anyone ever does

What happened to the Gurgen Hovhannisyan bout? Think this was the second time he was supposed to be on a card I watched and the fight had mysteriously vanished and not even mentioned.

Hovhannisyan suffered a rib injury a couple of weeks ago and pulled out.

The plan is for Hovhannisyan to be healthy for an October return, potentially on a Benavidez-Mikaelian card, if that fight gets made.

I stated in my first post in this thread 'that I would not be surprised if William Zepeda won'.

Note: If Lamont Roach had not fought Gervonta "Tank" Davis, and put in such a great performance there 'in all honestly, I would have made William Zepeda the favourite to win'.

Both fighters coming into the fight, had put in great performances at elite level 'Roach vs. Tank Davis, and Zepeda's losing effort vs. Stevenson was commendable'.

Stylistically William Zepeda, had the speed and skill 'and his offense was just too good for Lamont Roach'.

Great win etc.

I've never seen a particularly hard hitting volume puncher. All their punches are solid, but usually they're not big knockout blows 1 punch at a time you just get worn down from hit after hit.

You couldn't throw that many punches while punching as hard as you could. You'd gas within 3 or 4 rounds.

the whole fast twitch vs slow twitch is really oversimplified, there is a lot more that goes into it. manny pacquiao could punch hard at lower weights and throw tons of punches. guys like george foreman, tua, shavers were slow but huge punchers. chris byrd, paulie, guys today like devon haney were fast had little power. usyk is quicker than most opponents/not a puncher/very fit - going just by slow/fast twitch simplification that set shouldnt be possible. but the reality is that slow/fast, hard hitting/light hitting, good stamina/poor stamina - each of these is compatible with the others and you can see many different combos of it in fighters.

part of it regarding power/pressue is also just the fact that if someone hits insanely hard, they will be getting guys out of there earlier than if they werent as much of a puncher and wont need to throw as many punches, even if theyre capabale of it

Pitbull seems settled at 140, cruz seems good at 135... i like the fight i just dont see why either would be looking to move weights right now.

But any high levle zepeda fight i like... i cant think of an opponent style that i would not be keen to see zepeda face. Andy cruz, floyd schofield, abdula mason, muralata...

Also how the FVCK did zepeda just win the vacant WBC championship if Jadier Herrera is the WBC interim champ.... Can somone please explain that. I guess that seems to be a logical matchup then....

Who the f*ck is Jadier Herrera?

That's your answer. Herrera isn't a name that means anything to Boxing fans so he could easily be overlooked when trying to fill their vacancy. His team pays their sanctioning fees I guess so they had to give him something, but he's not a big name so other people get the bigger prize.

Its true he is not a big name.... But how the fvck do you put on a vacant title not involving the interim champ when you have an interim champ...

Honestly, per WBC past actions there shouldent of even been a fight for the vacant belt. herrera should of just been elevated, like haney, kabayal, mbilli, barrios, adams.... But if they decide not to elevate him surely the vacant fight has to involve him...

Roach credits Zepeda: ‘He was one step ahead of me’

Lamont Roach's bid to become a two-division champion fell short for a second time.

This time, it was far more definitive. Roach lost a one-sided unanimous decision to William Zepeda for the vacant WBC lightweight title on Saturday at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

Roach (25-2-3, 10 KOs), a former WBA 130-pound titleholder, said Zepeda fought far differently from the fighter he was prepared to face. Zepeda, of San Mateo Atenco, México, last fought in July 2025, losing a unanimous decision to then-WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson.

“Coming into the fight we just thought he was a one-trick pony,” Roach said in his post-fight interview. “He actually used his feet, as you can see. He was stepping back and kind of countering or not allowing me to get my counters off. He did it the whole fight. I had to switch a couple of things up, and I just didn’t succeed.”

It was a battle of Roach’s ability to box and counterpunch against Zepeda's relentless pressure and volume. Ultimately, the Washington, D.C., native struggled to corral and hold off the relentless southpaw.

Roach, 30, had his moments and landed some eye-catching shots, but they were too few and far between. Zepeda (34-1, 27 KOs) routinely pushed back Roach, overwhelmed him with his output and pace and consistently landed the cleaner shots to the head and body.

Through nine rounds, Zepeda, 30, had already landed more punches than any opponent had against Roach in a fight, according to the broadcast. Zepeda outlanded Roach 218-153, according to CompuBox.

Zepeda won 118-110 and 117-111 twice across the judges’ scorecards.

“Zepeda was well prepared tonight,” Roach said. “Him and his team, they had a tremendous game plan and he put it into place. No excuses. I take my hat off to [their] team. He was just one step ahead of me. ... They came ready. I came ready, but he was just the better man tonight.”

William Zepeda gets hero's welcome on his return to Mexico

Days after clinching the WBC lightweight title, William Zepeda touched down at Mexico City International Airport to a hero’s welcome as fans lined up to greet the new beltholder.

Zepeda, 34-1 (27 KOs), outpointed Lamont Roach Jnr in Las Vegas on Saturday in a largely dominant display to win by scores of 118-110 and two of 117-111 after 12 rounds of their battle for the vacant title.

It was the 30-year-old’s first action since being on the wrong end of similar tallies against Shakur Stevenson 13 months ago.

“The thing with Shakur was a test I couldn’t pass at the time,” Zepeda reflected. “It was an experience that made me humble, but we took the necessary time, came back stronger, worked on our weaknesses, and today we are world champions.”

Now the southpaw can enjoy the fruits of his labor. It was reported locally that the scenes marking the return of San Mateo Atenco’s Zepeda on Tuesday generated “excitement not seen in many years”.

As for what comes next, Zepeda said: “I don’t care who it is… I am going to beat them.”

Joe Frazier and Ricky Hatton 'were fighters who had great work rates and high level power'.

Note: I would even rate Mike Tyson in his best form 'as a fighter who could produce a great work rate combined with power'.

But yes? For the most part your observation is not far off. Punches with more forces, require a higher intensity of effort 'therefore the real big power punchers at top level are calculated and efficient with their punch output when it comes to launching power punches' etc.

Even Frazier and Hatton mixed up the force on their blows some though. Sometimes it's full force, other times you're just swarming a guy with a lot of blows.

Hatton especially would do that sometimes.
