David Adeleye: 2025 Wasn't The Best Year, I Rectify That In 2026

David Adeleye is determined to employ the lessons he learned during a frustrating 2025 and make a serious impact on the heavyweight division.

Adeleye (14-2, 13 KOs) ended 2024 with a spectacular first-round knockout of the previously undefeated Solomon Dacres but struggled to build on that momentum.

In April he looked out of sorts and quickly ran out of ideas during his vacant British title fight with Jeamie TKV. After five stale rounds, Adeleye dropped TKV with a left hook that landed moments after the referee called for the two to break. He escaped punishment and made the most of the opening by stopping his fellow Londoner moments later.

As controversial as the win was, it earned him an August fight with Filip Hrgovic.

Adeleye wasn’t outclassed by the experienced Croatian but there was the feeling that he could have done much more with his big opportunity and drifted to a wide 10-round decision loss.

"2025 wasn't the best year but 2026 is a year where I have to rectify that. Make people forget about 2025 and come with a different sort of force," he told talkSPORT Boxing.

"The fight with Jeamie was a stinker and then you got the one with Hrgovic where it didn't go my way.

“I look at the positives, negatives and everything but, at the same time, I'm a man that knows what's real so people don't need to tell me certain things because I already know what it is when I go home. I’ve got good people around me that just tell me what it is."

Adeleye is a confident character but seemed to spend much of his fight with Hrgovic second guessing himself.

When he did trust his instincts and take the initiative, Adeleye did trouble and hurt Hrgovic but he kept his hands in his pockets for far too long and allowed rounds to slip away.

The fight didn't end Adeleye's dreams of competing among world-class opposition but it did show that whilst he may have all the physical gifts required of a top heavyweight, still has to figure out the best way to utilise them.

Adeleye may be 29 years old but if he can learn from the ten rounds shared with Hrgovic, he still has plenty of time to make an impact at the highest level.

"I watched the fight back and could have done so many different things," he said.

"I could have done so much more. That wasn't a fight that was out my depth. I could have won that fight clearly and would have been in a different position now sitting here with.

"It's something that I have to take and it’s a bitter pill that I have to swallow. In 2026 I have to come differently."

It was a disgrace that the TKV result stood.

Yep. It would have been overturned if TKV had done it.

This plain sight chicanery is contaminating my favourite sport.

3 fights in 2 years is the main problem.

Hope he rematches TKV and loses as he should've been disqualified for that in a fight he was clearly losing. Not a good boxer and comes off as a very unlikeable person too.

He could start by having more in his arsenal than a left hook.

I like Adeleye. He's not going to be Euro level but he has a go.

I'd love to see a not so Super 8 UK Heavy Tournament with him, Whyte, Manstrength Fury, Allen, TKV, Fisher & a couple of young 'uns like Moses Jolly & I don't know who else.

Obviously that ain't going to happen but it would be fun while it lasted, except for Hughie's pull outs

Itauma should be having 4 fights or more a year, like Bruno and Tyson did in their early career, even if you're knocking over people its all experience

Bowe 13 fights in first year , 8 in his second.
Lewis 14 fights in 18 months , and EBU champion by end of it.

These 2 were very experienced amateurs as well, so had the basics where you might think they don't need to be fighting every other month. But it develops experience even a roll over win.

Yep. I suspect he'll go the distance with Franklin, and look kinda mediocre in doing it, and then everyone will be saying they'd favor Wardley to beat him, but you're hearing it from me right now before he's even fought Franklin.

I think the ref will stop it if Moses lands a barrage of shots.

Now I can't say I'd be surprised at that. Franklin or anyone else can't afford to be inactive for even 10 seconds against a British opponent who's opening up or they'll stop the fight on 'em.

Heavyweight contender David Adeleye declares free agent status

Heavyweight contender David Adeleye has declared himself a free agent.

The 14-2 (13 KOs) Londoner, trained by Adam Booth, last boxed on August 16, 2025, against Filip Hrgovic, losing a 10-round decision in Saudi Arabia, and has been promoted by Queensberry Promotions, who have a significant heavyweight roster that includes Daniel Dubois, Agit Kabayel, Guido Vianello, Fabio Wardley, Tony Yoka, Lawrence Okolie, Moses Itauma and Hrgovic, among others.

Before facing Hrgovic, Adeleye had stopped Jeamie TKV and Solomon Dacres but had been stopped by Wardley.

“First and foremost, a massive thank you to everyone at Queensberry for all the years we’ve had together,” Adeleye wrote on social media.

”I’ve been with Frank from the beginning of my professional career and I’ll always be grateful for the opportunities, the big nights and everything we’ve achieved along the way.

“After a lot of thought, I felt the time was right for a new challenge. I made the decision to see out my contract and not re-sign, so as of now, I’m officially a free agent.

“Now it’s time for the next chapter. I’m excited, hungry and ready to see what’s next.

“Let’s go!”

Adeleye was one of many fighters ringside at the Zuffa Boxing show in Bournemouth in June, headlined by Chris Billam-Smith’s war with Ryan Rozicki.

Adeleye Vs Clarke? Both got outboxed by TKV

Dacres rematch is an interesting one. Dacres looks a better boxer than the first performance while adeleye looks worse than that performance

Or rematch TKV to try and set the record straight

I think it's a good move for both of them. I think Adeleye has more to offer, he just need to up his work rate.

I don't rate Adeleye at all.

He lost basically every minute against Hrgovic apart from a brief spell after Hrgovic had already dropped him, so even that was still a 10-8 round. He lost every round against Wardley, was losing every round to TKV before that controversial KO after the break call and even struggled badly with Sokolowski.

People talk about his ability, but where has he actually shown it against anyone decent? He has power and some athleticism, but at almost 30 I think we've seen enough to say he isn't some hidden world-level talent waiting to come out.

Feels a bit like Hearn is scraping the heavyweight leftovers now. Andy Ruiz, Adeleye..

Agreed. Think he gets beat by some guys way worse than people expect him to.
