Boxing History Project — Would This Fit Here?

Post by hellinas00 »

I’m running a long-term boxing-history project involving 2,688 real fighters from across the sport’s history. The tournament is the framework, but the real purpose is researching and rediscovering fighters—many of them obscure contenders, regional champions and journeymen whose stories have largely disappeared. Before I start posting it here, I wanted to see whether this is something the Boxing History community would enjoy following, and whether this is the appropriate section for it.

It would all be simulation.

For example, one recent card led me into Joe Beckett’s career as British heavyweight champion after World War I, his fairground-boxing roots and the Carpentier fights. Another introduced Lottie Mwale and the history of Zambian boxing.

Would something like this be welcome here, or would another section of the forum be more appropriate?

So what are you talking about like running a series of Simulated Boxing matches or something? If you're talking about something that would wind up being a series of threads I think it may clutter up the Boxing History section. You could certainly put it in the Mythical Fights section though.

Discussing who would win if such and such fought is the whole point of that section of the forum, and someone actually running these mythical bouts through some sorta program might make it a little more interesting.

Thanks — that's exactly why I asked first. I definitely don't want to clutter the History section. I'll keep the project to one ongoing thread in Mythical Fights. The historical research is a big part of it, but the tournament itself certainly sounds like a better fit there. Appreciate the direction.

No problem. I look forward to reading about this Tournament you're cooking up.
