Prichard Colon petition to jail Terrel Williams, fire officials on target
A petition to ensure Terrel Williams faces jail and doctors involved in the Prichard Colon fallout never work again is on target for its latest goal.
Re-uploaded by ‘E L M’ in 2021, years after its inception, Colon supporters sought 7,500 signatures to gain a ‘reaction’ at change.org.
WBN can now report that the organizers are only a few signatures away from a new goal. Although it’s taken over three years, the petition will likely move to a new goal soon. Initially posted one year after the tragedy left Colon with lifelong altering injuries, the petition hit 5000 signatures relatively quickly. However, the last two years saw only a few thousand more supporters.
The movement will be due imminently over a sensitive matter approaching a decade old.
The American continued his career for four years despite requests for Williams to be suspended indefinitely. He eventually walked away himself after a 2019 loss to Thomas Dulorme. It’s highly doubtful that Williams will ever return after he turned 40 this year.
In the petition, the appeal asks for referee Joe Cooper, ringside physician Dr. Richard Ashby, and Virginia Boxing Program executive director David Holland to face punishment for their part in the contest.
The wording used on the petition explains why they want action.
“Injured Fighter Prichard Colon sustained brain injuries due to the negligence of multiple people. Opponent Terrell “Tyger” Williams knowingly administered illegal blows to the back of the head with no intervention.”
“Referee Joe Cooper ignored Colon’s complaints of being dizzy and did not call out William’s repeated illegal blows. He has a history of bad calls. Doctor Richard Ashby was hired by the commission to observe the fight. Colon advised the Doctor that he was feeling dizzy.
“The Doctor checked the back of Colon’s head and advised he was okay to return for the next round with no hesitation.
“Executive Director David Holland of the Virginia Boxing and Wrestling Commission said to stop with the “stalling antics” (referring to the amount of time he took to recuperate from the knockdown) and did not take any steps to intervene.
“All people listed should get fired for negligence, and Williams should get considered for some time in prison due to his malicious attack that forever impacted Colon’s life.
“This new petition, while worth the effort and existence now, includes new decision-makers who will get notified of people en masse who still express that there are issues to be solved today.”
As WBN reported previously, around the same time, Terrel Williams faces death threats and abuse daily on a static Facebook page. Unused since 2013, the page has become a place to vent for supporters of Colon’s cause. Some of the statements written are hard to digest.
Regarding the victim, in this case – Colon, who is a warrior and honorary WBC champion, his future remains filled with the love of his family to guide him after the most tragic of circumstances unfolded against a young man trying to fulfill his destiny.

In a 2018 interview with Ring Magazine, Williams’ words only seemed to antagonize the situation further.
“I pray for Prichard every day,” said Terrel. “That’s never going to change. I wish him nothing but peace and health.
“I would never intentionally harm someone like that. But I don’t place any blame on myself. I prayed about it. I wish the young man really well. It’s a hard situation for me and Colon’s family.”

Prichard Colon has passed away aged 33, his father has confirmed on social media.
Colon was a rising Puerto Rican boxer who suffered a brain haemorrhage and was in a coma for seven months after the first defeat of his career in 2015.
When he awoke, Colon never fully recovered from the brain damage. He was cared for by his family until his passing.

It's terribly tragic when something like that happens, but trying to jail his opponent and the referees and stuff is just petty.
It makes the whole situation double sad honestly because it makes you realize that the people who were left caring for him basically lost their minds too.

So Sad RIP to him.
I was at that fight with friends.
It was hard to watch... Williams was doing quite a bit of hits behind the head and yeah the ref was not doing a good job at all.
He was rightfully complaining about the hits to the head and towards the end of the fight he was looking dizzy and out of it..
What was weird, was that they did not announce the end of the rounds or what round it was. The corners were just as confused as us as fans...
Colon's corner believed the fight was over and came into the ring, if I remember correctly.
So sad that a majority of the fans were booing him, because they felt he was faking it... Which was very sad and again idiot fans from the area.
He was clearly out of it and had to be helped to the back. He wasn't able to walk on his own. I believe he collapsed.
Terrible ref, terrible doctor. While punches behind the head happen... Williams clearly knew what he was doing and it was atrocious the amount of punches he threw illegally. Round after round.
It was very sad seeing him have to be carried out like that after being booed like that.

The father of Prichard Colon paid a heartbreaking tribute to his son after it was confirmed that the former boxer has died aged 33.
Colon (16-1, 13 KOs) was just 23 when he suffered a severe brain hemorrhage as a result of his fight with Terrel Williams in October 2015. He was rushed to hospital immediately after and underwent emergency surgery to save his life. He eventually spent 221 days in a coma.
The injuries were life-changing, and Colon, who remained in a persistent vegetative state, required round-the-clock medical assistance ever since.
But after fighting for more than a decade, a post on Colon’s official Facebook account confirmed his death.
His father wrote: “Good morning, my people. I regret to inform you of the departure of my son Prichard from this earthly world, NOW HE IS in a better world. I did everything possible to fulfil HIS WISH, HIS DREAM of bringing him ON VACATION to Puerto Rico as he so desired, but IT COULDN'T BE DONE. Thank you for so many years of love and prayers. As much as you can, please keep us in your prayers.”
WBO president Gustavo Olivieri led the tributes to Colon following the news.
A statement read: “It is with profound sorrow that the World Boxing Organization (WBO) has received the news of the passing of Prichard Colón, shared today by his father through social media.
“On behalf of our organization and the entire WBO family, I extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to his parents, family, and loved ones during this time of immeasurable loss.
“Prichard’s life was defined by courage, perseverance, and an extraordinary fighting spirit. His story transcended the ring and deeply touched the boxing community, which stood by him throughout the years with respect, admiration, and hope.
“Today, the WBO solemnly joins his family and all those who had the privilege of knowing, supporting, and loving him in mourning his passing.
