Raven Chapman in Danish hospital after sparring injury

Former world title challenger Raven Chapman remains in a Danish hospital after suffering a brain haematoma and cerebral oedema during a sparring session on July 24.

In a joint statement released by Team Chapman and Vote Boxing, it was confirmed that the 32-year-old collapsed unexpectedly after sparring and was airlifted immediately to a local hospital.

There, Chapman underwent immediate emergency surgery which successfully stopped the bleeding on her brain and stabilised the swelling. She was then placed in a medically induced coma.

The statement, released on Wednesday, confirms that Chapman has been taken off sedatives “over the past day,” with treatment set to continue until she receives medically supervised repatriation to a UK hospital where rehabilitation “is expected to take some time.”

“Her doctors are doing everything they can to support her recovery and we remain hopeful as she continues to fight through this incredibly difficult time,” the statement said.

“Raven’s family are in Denmark supporting her during this incredibly difficult time. We kindly ask that their privacy is respected.

“At this stage this is the only update we are able to provide.”

Norwich-born Chapman (10-2, 3 KOs) last boxed in June when she stopped Georgia Klein in the fourth of their six-twos bout at Harrow Leisure Centre, Harrow.

That was her first fight back since two back-to-back defeats in title fights.

First she lost on points to Skye Nicolson in her challenge for the WBC featherweight title at Kingdom Arena, Jeddah in October 2024. That marked the first women’s world title fight to ever take place in Saudi Arabia.

She was then outpointed by Kariss Artingstall in their clash for the vacant British title at London’s Royal Albert Hall in March last year and since returned to winning ways at lightweight.

Chapman could return to UK next week after brain bleed

Britain's Raven Chapman could travel back to the UK next week after undergoing a second successful surgery on a brain bleed she suffered following a sparring session in Denmark.

The 32-year-old former world title challenger collapsed after training on 24 July and was taken by helicopter to hospital, where she was diagnosed with a brain haematoma and cerebral oedema.

After undergoing emergency surgery and being placed in a medically induced coma, Chapman's management company, Vote Boxing, said she has had another successful procedure.

"This marks another important step in her recovery while also making it safer for her to travel back to the UK," a statement said.

"If everything continues to progress as hoped, we are aiming for Raven to fly home sometime next week, where she can continue her recovery surrounded by her family and loved ones.

"Although there is still a long road ahead, this is a significant milestone, and we remain hopeful as Raven continues to make progress each day."

Chapman has won 10 professional fights with two losses.

The Norwich-born fighter lost to Skye Nicolson for the WBC featherweight title in October 2024 in the only women's world-title fight ever held in Saudi Arabia.

A GoFundMe page has been launched to help raise funds for Chapman's rehabilitation and after-care has raised over £88,000.

"We would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone who has supported Raven through her GoFundMe, as well as everyone who has sent messages, shared their prayers, and shown kindness throughout this incredibly difficult time," the statement added.

"Your generosity and support have meant more than words can express and have provided tremendous strength to Raven and her loved ones.

Raven Chapman back in UK after brain surgery, gives positive update

Recovering Raven Chapman has posted for the first time since her return to the UK.

Former world featherweight title challenger Chapman (10-2, 3 KOs) collapsed following a sparring session in Denmark on July 24.

She was airlifted to a nearby hospital where she was diagnosed with a brain hematoma and cerebral oedema. She underwent emergency surgery which successfully stopped the bleeding and helped stabilize the swelling. She was then placed in a medically-induced coma.

Earlier this week, the 32-year-old’s family confirmed that she has returned home to the UK to continue her recovery.

“After everything she has been through, having her home and back surrounded by family feels incredibly special,” a statement read. “There is still a road ahead and we’re taking things one day at a time but Raven continues to amaze us with her strength, positivity and determination.”

Then on Wednesday morning, Chapman uploaded an Instagram story for the first time since the accident. “Feeling very lucky to be back home and surrounded by family,” she wrote.

A GoFundMe page, set up earlier this month to support Chapman’s return home, has now raised close to £100,000 and remains open to raise funds for the next stage of her recovery.
