If any of you know Shaun Brown (Boxing News)
Shaun is going through it at the moment and has been posting on twitter about suicidal intentions
I know it's a small world boxing. If anyone here knows him, now is a good time to check in on him
Mate of mine went out like that last year, none of us caught it til it was too late. These phases are apparently intense but temporary, but obviously you can't watch someone 24/7
There's nothing wrong or embarrassing about it. People get overloaded left right and centre by life, everyone has a breaking point when they can't see the wood for the trees and feel like they've run out of options. Just got to grit it out and hang in there. Everything always works out alright in the end

I'll never understand thinking about suicide when you have a wife and children who need you.

The thinking is usually.. “everyone would be better off without me”Riddick Bowie wrote: ↑23 Aug 2026, 06:04 I'll never understand thinking about suicide when you have a wife and children who need you.

Because it isn't thinking, that's the point - it's *feeling*, it's irrational at a logical level but seems logical to a mind in turmoil.Riddick Bowie wrote: ↑23 Aug 2026, 06:04 I'll never understand thinking about suicide when you have a wife and children who need you.
"Depression arrives disguised as logic" is a maxim in psychology.
Also if you in future ever encounter someone going through this stage, something like "How can you think about that when you've got kids?" isn't helpful - all it comes through as is "Here's another area you're falling short"
Again, the logical approach does not apply to a mind in the grip of illogic.

It's not about that mate. You begin to believe they are better off without you.Riddick Bowie wrote: ↑23 Aug 2026, 06:04 I'll never understand thinking about suicide when you have a wife and children who need you.
Re: If any of you know Shaun Brown (Boxing News)
If someone is intent on ending their life it's a waste of time saying what about your wife kids etc. They have gone beyond those thoughts. This is the time they require urgent help when they have gone through the process of thought that others are better off without them

Were they so thick they didn't know how to use the simple quote function or the difference between say and said?golden_labrador wrote: ↑23 Aug 2026, 09:26 "Riddick Bowie wrote: ↑Today, 11:04

That's very sad. I hope he can turn it around somehow because his wife and kids will surely want and need him.MasterG wrote: ↑23 Aug 2026, 08:43It's not about that mate. It sounds like he’s sought help and is in a slightly better place today. Thoughts are with him and hope he feels better in time
Re: If any of you know Shaun Brown (Boxing News)
Not understanding depression doesn't mean that someone is thick. We are all being educated every day. Sometimes you cant understand things or people's feelings because you cant imagine it.
That's why we read and listen and hopefully try and educate ourselves.
I hope Shaun Brown gets the help he needs.

Very valid points. Brother in law took his own life. Cliched life and soul…. You never know what’s going on. Positively he’s reached out in some way so is in a good position to get help.evrenb wrote: ↑23 Aug 2026, 15:41 Not understanding depression doesn't mean that someone is thick. Often the closest are last to know, there can be little clues like sorting things out in your life, like finalising things or sorting out finances.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑23 Aug 2026, 15:44Very valid points. These little indicators may pass over wife and family but they are certainly indicators.
Once suicide has been determined in ones head they may feel relief that it will soon be over, they can act quite happily as they have comes to terms with their final months, weeks or days. They will have .oat likely thought about ending their life several months beforehand.
When a family member has discussed depression they need help and closely watched. Changes in behaviour should be watched carefully.

Don't know and whats more don't pretend to know much about depresion , suicide , and all that sort of stuff , What i do know is here in Australia THERES A LOT OF IT ,
I personaly know of lots who have done it , not mates but people i know off , last one was a couple of years ago , guy i have known for years his son done it , his son was also a mate of one of my lads and was always around my house when they were young ,
When i look at the people i have known over the years i seem to see one common denominator , LONELY ,,How much that plays into it i don't know but a fella who worked for me years ago his dad done it , few years after his wife left him , but his son said to me , after they buried him , he said , If he would of known how many would come to his funeral , He probably would never of done it

Re: If any of you know Shaun Brown (Boxing News)
I often hear experts talk about how humans are deeply reward-driven creatures, and if the brain's reward system breaks down someone can lose all ability to feel joy or look forward to good things. This loss is linked to severe depression and worse.
I find this prospect to be nothing short of terrifying.

Totally agree. Here’s to hoping Shaun recovers and feels well and happy in time.MasterG wrote: ↑23 Aug 2026, 16:31Often the closest are last to know, there can be little clues like sorting things out in your life, like finalising things or sorting out finances.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑23 Aug 2026, 15:44Very valid points.
