Hopefully Cameron can get it done. I've never taken to Mayer.
two women who can fight..
Yeah for sure one of the best matchups that could take place in women’s boxing. Obviously Cameron is the only woman to officially beat Katie Taylor as a pro so clearly has pedigree and Mayer’s losses to Baumgardner and Jonas were both close. I had the Baumgardner loss as a fair result but close and the loss to Jonas I thought she won so clearly she has good pedigree too.

My only criticism is the weight. I’m sure both women could easily make 140 or even 135. Having two boxers weigh in several lbs under the 153 limit will take a bit of credibility away as it will show that neither are genuine 153 boxers.

Mayer seems a bit of a karen, so a bit hard to warm to, but i do respect her as a fighter.

Thought she was a little unlucky against Baumgardner, but just straight up robbed against Jonas.

She defo doesnt shirk a fight either and seems to be improving still. Cameron may have peaked with the first Taylor fight.

This is a really good fight that could have been for even higher stakes. Mayer was definitely unlucky in those two fights and could easily be 24-0-0, while I think Cameron was unfortunate not to get the decision in the second Taylor fight (I feel she edged it but know I'm in the minority) and would be 22-0-0.

I'm not sure you are not in the minority out of Ireland.

‘I’m not going to be denied’: Chantelle Cameron confident heading into Mikaela Mayer unification

Chantelle Cameron looks forward to adding a couple more belts to her collection this weekend in England.

Chantelle Cameron is squared away to take on Mikaela Mayer in an August 29 title unification in Birmingham, England, and looking towards the fight Cameron tells Sky Sports that she’s been putting in all the work behind the scenes to the point where just simply doesn’t feel Mayer is a special enough fighter to topple her.

To that end, Cameron says she’s anticipating a career-best performance this weekend as everything has been humming in training camp and she doesn’t expect anything to change that up come fight night.

“I’m heading into fight week in such a good place - confident and knowing that it’s going to take someone really good and special to beat me, and I just don’t think that’s Mikaela. When I’m thinking like that and acting that out in the gym and everything else, I just know that I’m not going to be denied the victory.”

Should Cameron come out on top she’ll have a handful of world titles, but she says it still likely won’t top the feeling of being the only person to hand the legendary Katie Taylor a defeat. So, in that respect Cameron would only rate this as her second-best achievement in the sport. Still, she’ll have to handle the business between the bells before she can start counting any of her accolades.

Chantelle Cameron, oozing confidence, downplays the threat of Mikaela Mayer

For many, the impending showdown between Chantelle Cameron and Mikaela Mayer is a 50/50 fight. For others, like the bookmakers who make the American a 2-to-5 favorite, it’s tilted in Mayer’s favor.

For Cameron, however, all she can see is victory on home soil. The fight tops a busy MVP card in Birmingham, England, on August 29.

Cameron, 22-1 (8 KOs), defends her WBO junior middleweight title while trying to add Mayer’s WBC strap.

"I really do believe this is going to be a great performance by me - I think it's going to be my best performance of my career, I really do," Cameron told Sky Sports.

"I feel like everything's gone well and there's no reason for it to fall apart on fight night. When I'm like this, and I've put the work in and my mindset is where I want it to be, nobody's beating me.

"I know that all I have to do is do what I've been doing in the gym. I've done everything.”

Cameron, 35, has split two fights with the great Katie Taylor. It’s that kind of pedigree that she believes will prove too much for the 36-year-old Mayer, 22-2 (5 KOs).

"I'm heading into fight week in such a good place - confident and knowing that it's going to take someone really good and special to beat me, and I just don't think that's Mikaela.

"When I'm thinking like that and acting that out in the gym and everything else, I just know that I'm not going to be denied the victory."

Cameron changes her mind on three-minute rounds for women

Chantelle Cameron has changed her mind on three-minute rounds in women’s boxing.

The 35-year-old former undisputed junior welterweight champion will meet Mikaela Mayer in a junior middleweight title unification fight Saturday night in Birmingham, England. Their fight is scheduled for 10 two-minute rounds.

Cameron won her WBO title, which will be on the line when she fights for Mayer’s WBA and WBC belts, when she easily outpointed Michaela Kotaskova in her first fight consisting of three-minute rounds.

Like many others, Cameron (22-1, 8 KOs) thought that extending women’s boxing rounds by a minute would increase the number of stoppages and therefore drive interest in the sport for those with a thirst for knockouts.

But after dominating Kotaskova throughout the clash, which she won via cards of 99-91 twice and a 100-90, Cameron is now not so sure.

“I’ve changed my mind about the three-minute rounds and getting stoppages,” Cameron told The Ring. “It’s not as easy as that. I think if you’re going to get a stoppage, you’ll get a stoppage in two. If you're not going to, that won't change with an extra minute.”

Amanda Serrano, a seven-division champion, has been one of the staunchest advocates of three-minute rounds in women’s boxing. But even the 37-year-old icon, one of women’s boxing’s biggest punchers, could not find an early finish against Danila Ramos in their historic fight in October 2023, the first women's bout over 12 threes.
Instead, she won via shutout on all three cards.

“I thought the extra minute would [help me] get a stoppage,” Cameron said, “but my last opponent was going nowhere and I was thinking, ‘You must be kidding me. I’ve done three-minute rounds to try and get rid of you, but you’re going nowhere.’ It’s just tough and I just think these women are tough. Amanda’s fight proved that, too.”

Cameron also explained how she and trainer Jamie Moore shifted the emphasis of preparation to account for the extra minute.

“We called it the wave,” Cameron recalled. “And the wave goes up and goes down. My whole camp was going through the waves, up then down. That’s where I had to learn how to navigate a lot better because my style is come forward and throw loads of punches, but obviously with an extra minute, you’re not going to do that. I genuinely find that very easy for two minutes, but over 10 threes I was very careful because I thought, ‘This is an extra minute every round, let’s not get carried away.’

“So, the fight was a massive learning experience for me. Over two minutes, it’s just, ‘Bam,’ and I don’t really take a step back. But with threes I was taking steps back just to catch my breath. I’ve never gassed out over 10 twos, but there were a couple of times in my last fight when I was thinking, ‘Don’t blow a gasket here, don’t overdo it.’ ”

She will be back to her usual style against Mayer (22-2, 5 KOs) in a main event Sky Sports and ESPN+ will televise and stream from bp pulse LIVE in the UK and United States, respectively.

Cameron believes Mayer’s position as one of women’s boxing’s biggest names has pushed her to new heights in training.
Las Vegas’ Mayer, a three-division champion, is ranked No. 3 on The Ring’s pound-for-pound list, behind only Katie Taylor and Claressa Shields. Cameron is ranked No. 5.

“I've been waiting for a name like Mayer for a long time, since my Katie Taylor fights,” Cameron said. “I’ve needed a name like Mayer and I’ve been patiently waiting, but this is what gives me that buzz. And this is what brings the best out of me as well, because I need these kind of names to get me properly fired up, so I leave nothing unturned in training. I think that’s why it’s going to be one of my best performances and that’s what having that underdog mentality feels like – I just love proving people wrong.”

There’s another MVP show in November and regardless of what you think of women’s boxing it has the p4p best fighting one another. If you listed the top 20 p4p and then looked at realistic fights based on weight that could happen then pretty much it’s happening.

Nicholson is in a good fight.
Ellie Scotney who’s gone undisputed at 122 steps up to 126 to face the woman who beat Skye Nicholson. So pretty much the best at 122 facing number 2 at 126 after Serrano who to be fair will retire soon.
And Alicia Baumgardner who’s clear number 1 at 130 steps up to lightweight to fight the woman that Caroline Dubois is avoiding the like the plague. Really sticking it in Dubois eye with that one.

I’m sure they are losing a fair bit of money but credit where it’s due.

Mayer Expects Versatility To Separate Her From Cameron

Mikaela Mayer believes her versatility will prove to be the difference against Chantelle Cameron.

Mayer faces Cameron in a 154-pound championship unification bout that pits two of women’s boxing’s best pound-for-pound fighters against each other Saturday night at bp pulse LIVE in Birmingham, England. The Ring’s vacant junior middleweight title will also be on the line, with Mayer being The Ring’s No. 1-rated contender at 154 pounds and Cameron being No. 2.

Las Vegas’ Mayer (22-2, 5 KOs) holds the WBA and WBC titles, while England’s Cameron (22-1, 8 KOs) is the WBO champion. Their 10-round bout headlines MVPW06 and will be streamed on ESPN+ in the United States and broadcast by Sky Sports in the United Kingdom.

Mayer is No. 3 on The Ring’s pound-for-pound list, behind only Katie Taylor and Claressa Shields. Cameron is No. 5.

“I think I can just do more,” Mayer said at their final press conference Thursday. “I think that you can look at Chantelle Cameron and her style, and it’s very straightforward. You know what she’s gonna do. I’m a little bit more diverse, so when I need to switch up the game plan, if need be, I can. I have other tools in my pocket, and at these big fights, sometimes you have to adjust and do something different. If I have to, I got what it takes to do that.”

Mayer, 36, beat Canada’s Mary Spencer by unanimous decision in her last fight to win the then-vacant WBC and WBO 154-pound titles October 30 in Montreal. That one-sided victory made the Woodlands, California, native a three-division titleholder.

Mayer, who also holds the WBO welterweight title, enters this bout on a three-fight win streak. Her lone defeats have come in the UK, as she lost split decisions to unified 130-pound titleholder Alycia Baumgardner in October 2022 and Natasha Jonas in a fight for the IBF welterweight title in January 2024.

Cameron, 35, became a two-division champion in her last appearance, when she beat Michaela Kotaskova (12-1-2, 4 KOs) by unanimous decision to win the then-vacant WBO 154-pound title April 5 in London. She remains the only fighter to beat Ireland’s Taylor.

Cameron defeated Taylor (25-1, 6 KOs) by majority decision in May 2023 to remain the undisputed 140-pound champion. Taylor avenged that loss six months later when she beat Cameron by majority decision.

Cameron has won four straight fights since losing to Taylor.

“We both have similar careers if you’ve followed us,” Mayer said of Cameron. “We’ve had a lot of ups and a few downs, but it’s great that we both always wanted to continue to fight the best. We’re coming together at a time when we’re still at the top of our game. We’ve navigated our way back to the top, and this is the time to go against each other. I’m glad it’s happening now and not later.”
