Starmer stands down as MP
Good riddance to the blighter https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cvgy4258kgyo
Re: Starmer stands down as MP
I knew it would stick in his craw, too humiliating for him to watch his backstabber Burnham from the backbenches...
Re: Starmer stands down as MP
Let's see if Pothead Polanski stands in the by-election...

All those Labour MPs who were screaming waste of Tax Payer Money when Faridge stepped down are strangely very silent about Starmer and his loyalty to his electorate,

Why? Starmer isn’t standing again and isn’t doing it to try to avoid corruption investigations, is he?

Re: Starmer stands down as MP
I've no doubt he's got a job working for some billionaire scumb bag, but it's absolutely nothing like Farridge has done, costing the residents of one of the poorest parts of the uk £250k on some ego trip which backfired badly.
Re: Starmer stands down as MP
Because he repeatedly promised to serve his full terms, both as Prime Minister and later as a MP. Of course he has now broken both of those pledges without an apology or hint of shame, purely to further his own interests.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑03 Sep 2026, 12:48 Why? Because a great deal was made of the cost of a bye election by people who are now silent when it is Starmer doing it.
My mum taught me that "Two wrongs don't make a right", Starmer is just as bad as Faridge calling a bye election to suit their own selfish ends.

Re: Starmer stands down as MP
Be interesting, Reform won't get anywhere whoever they put up, same for the Tories.
Now Labour still have a Burnham bounce, Polanski has been shown up a bit.
Will Labour risk putting up a Blairite, or go for a left of centre candidate who will win easily enough
Re: Starmer stands down as MP
Interesting to see if Reform and the Tories even put up candidates, a precedent has been setJohn wrote: ↑03 Sep 2026, 13:07Because he repeatedly promised to serve his full terms, both as Prime Minister and later as a MP. Re: Starmer stands down as MP
I think if that happened Paulden would be in a very strong position. Then the Labour dilemma would be pull out all the stops to ensure a win and maintain positivity for Burnham or minimise his exposure to the bye election and say Burnham is focusing on the job of leading the country and bye elections come and go.

Liebour have already picked their candidate, a Somalian refugee https://www.gbnews.com/politics/holborn ... -candidate
Re: Starmer stands down as MP
Not going to ask if Starmer did a good job or not, clearly there are areas of PR and Political judgment weakness that were clear (and on the PR front at least we could have predicted way before July 2024) - but my question is did Labour, AND Starmer, press the panic button a bit too soon. Starmer with some of his political decisions, as a response to reform, seemingly trying to appeal to reform voters and Labour for basically not waiting for Reform to self-implode. There were several political voices that were suggestion reform will just self-destruct way before the next GE and it looks like it is happening.
At the moment, I know that Burnham prefers Oasis to Blur and that's about it really. He is in a fortunate position where he can "u turn" on some of the decision made and it be seen as a fresh change and not a U-turn. I do wonder if the modifications to the early release scheme if it wasn't for a high profile case the capture the attention - but during the honeymoon period it is not.
Yes much more approachable seemingly and more "man of the people", so not saying it wasn't a good move by Labour - just wondering if it was a bit of a panic move that was a bit premature.

I was keen on Stammer, I thought he was a canny operator who kept his cards close to his chest. But pretty quickly it became apparent that he had no cards, clueless and useless, no policies, no plan, no vision.
He was ineffective: just more of the same wishy-washy politics, wrapped up in the idea that “we’re the nice ones” and that everything can be achieved with carrots and never sticks. Incapable of making hard decisions or envisioning any kind of plan for the country facing the realities of the modern world.
As for Burnham, first thing he does is find £10B to give to the hospitality industry !!!!!!!
McDonald’s: about £432m a year
Mitchells & Butlers: about £246m
Greene King: about £196m
Wetherspoon: about £194m
Those three large pub operators alone therefore account for about £636m
Uber Eats, Deliveroo and Just Eat platform fees are estimated at another £376m combined.
KFC, Domino’s, Nando’s, Burger King and Stonegate would also receive substantial amounts
I don't know to laugh or cry, this policy is the Jeremy Clarkson and Farridge ultimate wet dream. If he found some savings why the hell didn't it go towards something we need Health, Defence, Education but no it goes to entertainment and junk food. Just what the NHS needs more takeaways, more people eating crap food. I hope anyone reading this can feel the anger pouring out of my fingertips.

Re: Starmer stands down as MP
5/2 currently looks a pretty good bet for Pothead Polanski to take Starmer's old seat, why would "the muslim vote" settle for a no-name Liebour mark, when you can capture the radical main leader of a Party?
