Sharkey turning to the referee and complaining about Dempseys low blow is a head scratcher.
Experienced guy like that it’s hard to figure.
The referee tells you during instructions “ protect yourself at all times”.
He’s not kidding
I personally always kinda like it when someone nails a guy when he's turning to the ref to complain because honestly that's the kinda sh*t I'd do if I was fighting. I ain't your buddy in a fight. I want to win.
100 percent.
It ain’t a maypole dance. I would do whatever it takes to win.
Hit me low, I’m not complaining. I’m just gonna do the same.
Same deal with head buts , etc.
Sharkey knew that. Shame on him.
Yeah you can't rely on the Referee or anyone else to take your of you in there. Tell your corner between rounds maybe if a guy is persistently fouling you, but even so, just hitting him back with what he gave you is probably the most effective deterrent there is.
I watched an old HBO Boxing broadcast recently where someone was complaining about low blows to the ref and said he'll hit the guy back to the ref to which the ref said "No don't retaliate"
Roy Jones Jr. On commentary said "I wouldn't have told the ref nothing, I'd have just hit him back" that's honestly the way it should be. And Trainers should teach a guy to 100% never worry about that stuff.
The Chief 2nd complains to the ref. The Fighter fights.
