Yeah we all follow boxing because we want referees to deprive us of highlight reel knockouts. I wonder if management is happy with the referrers timing? Even uber shill company man Max Kellerman complained about the stoppage on the live call.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑Yesterday, 07:10 A difference in levels was evident last night.
Brilliant promotion and matchmaking can get you into positions you want to be, but ultimately boxing has a way of levelling things out most of the time.
Garcia, although not always technically perfect has unbelievable speed with power and has experience fighting at the top level both as an amateur & pro.
He’s one of those fighters for me where he’s overrated by some & underrated by others!
That right hand was savage so credit to Benn for getting up after that.
Might not be the perfect stoppage by the ref for some as it was timed on a couple of missed punches but I’d say Garcia was about to close out the fight with a highlight reel knockout so he saved Benn from that.

Nothing wrong with the stoppage in my opinion. A fighters reaction will always tell you what you need to know about a referee jumping in.

Exactly, there were no complaints from Conor Benn....smiling assassin wrote: ↑Yesterday, 07:44 Nothing wrong with the stoppage in my opinion. A fighters reaction will always tell you what you need to know about a referee jumping in.
So many professional boxers have made no money but have picked long term injuries and ailments from the sport, Conor Benn is now a multi millionaire - he definitely walks away a winner from the sport - one of the few.

You know what they say....... A good little 'un beats a distinctively average bigger guy with a famous dad and zero loyalty.
Re: Round-by-Round: Ryan Garcia vs. Conor Benn - September 12, 2026
Exactly. Benn had tasted reality of world level and clearly wanted out. Not even a token protest. Cosplay over.smiling assassin wrote: ↑Yesterday, 07:44 Nothing wrong with the stoppage in my opinion. A fighters reaction will always tell you what you need to know about a referee jumping in.

One of the worst pieces of luck in boxing was when Korobov got an injury vs Eubank Jr. He was picking him apart already and was going to absolutely school him and KO him. That would have put Eubank Jr. to bed but that freak injury allowed Eubank to have a "win" over a world level opponent. It was a terrible result for boxing.

Eubank Jr was a good fighter.
He beat decent domestic fighters like Williams, O’Sullivan & Blackwell comfortably.
He relied on his athletic ability & I’d say he was at his best between 2015 & 2020.
I think fringe world level sums his prime up.
Benn got him when he was well past his best, weight drained & had already been knocked out by Liam Smith.
Their first fight was 6 years after the DeGale win & 11 years after Eubank’s breakout performance against Saunders & Benn still couldn’t beat him the first time.

I doubt there’s many Benn hasn’t disrespected tbh. Dave Allen said in his video this morning that Conor refused to shake his hand, because Dave had the audacity to say he wasn’t a world class fighter.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑Yesterday, 07:55Wasnt Benn disrespect to him not long agoBoxerbeetle wrote: ↑Yesterday, 07:37 Some decent ‘old-school’ analysis from Duke here. Some weird opinions in this thread:-
- Stoppage was too early. He was completely done. Did you want to see him carried out on a stretcher?
- Would have been interesting if Benn could have got him past 5. Never going to happen and nothing to base the assumption that Benn has superior cardio, at this level, on. This is the big leagues.
- Benn can challenge for world honours at 160 or 168. FFS. Back to the drawing board first.
- Eubank jr was rubbish. He was at least Euro level. That isn’t rubbish.

It has baffled me more than any other build up this fight.Deserter wrote: ↑Yesterday, 00:26Well said mate. He didn’t do that.
He now wants to skip 154 pounds.
And will campaign at 160 which we know is a weak division.
He said maybe even 168.
Does he win a belt at 160?
What are we actually doing here?
He’s not even shown he’s British level.
This whole Benn carry on has been one of the strangest episodes I can remember in boxing.
He’s got no business anywhere near world level.
When Lockett got beat by Pavlik did we start saying let’s get him a shot at Kessler at 168 or Dawson at 175?
When Jennings got folded by Cotto did we start speculating on how he’d do against 154 or 160 champs?
Of course not, we just accepted they were a million miles off world level & manipulated the ranking bodies to get a title shot.
Forgot the weight. Benn never has and never will earn the right to operate at this level. End of story.
People who I’d consider knowledgeable boxing fans have lost their minds.
I’ve listened the boxing asylum podcast for years & they were talking as if it was a hard fight to call.
One said Garcia by majority decision.
On the build up thread on here there’s proper boxing people making out it was a tough fight to call.
I get DAZN pundits hyping a fight but I’ve no idea what anyone else was seeing if they felt Benn had a chance.

Too early for me. Yes, he was hurt, but he was protecting himself and the last shots weren't landing cleanly.Frostieballs wrote: ↑Yesterday, 08:23 - Stoppage was too early. He was completely done. Did you want to see him carried out on a stretcher?

You honestly think there is a version of Garcia that Benn would have beaten?!keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑Yesterday, 08:46 For me, it was, and always will be a question of which Garcia turns up.
The Romero version of Garcia would still have easily schooled Benn given the gulf in experience, ringcraft and power.
I'm with A Force in terms of being utterly bemused by some of the pre-fight and post-fight comments (star prize for the latter going to the guy speaking with Don Charles who somehow thought that Benn had started really well and Rd 1 was evens

Benn was hopelessly out of his depth and reality came knocking.
For the avoidance of doubt if there was any...there are a lot better boxers than Garcia, so Benn should now know he's not a world class fighter.
The truth often outs in the end.

i don't think we ever see Benn attempting to mix at anything like this level again - as much as anything else, the psychological impact of last night is going to take a toll.

Steve tends to do stand alone ones after big fights. Seems to have been a split from the uk guys and matty (who i find painful). Its not a patch on its heyday. Dont even bother with bellew of the week anymore.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑Yesterday, 09:50I don’t listen to it as religiously as I used to, tend to only tune in to get their thoughts after big events, but am sure Steve was on the episode after the last Itauma fight.Bigdogsnose wrote: ↑Yesterday, 09:33Isnt the boxing asylum just the two yank guys now. Benn has zero credible wins, went life and death with a journeyman and just got stopped in two rounds by a former lightweight.
I was thinking more in terms of hype behind the two Eubank- Benn fights. Very similar to the Haye v Bellew fights. You've got four fights there generating huge amounts of money off the back of fans believing these were some kind of super fights. They were pretty dull in reality

He’d just taken a massive right hand. His eyes had gone funny and he was throwing nothing back, despite the ref asking him to.
What was the point in taking any risk and allowing it to continue. He had zero chance of coming back, he was clearly out of his depth.
