I cannot predict the future, and neither can anyone else for that matter. But what I do know, TODAY, is that I would hate to become a burden to the people I love... and I would hate even more to be condemned to a prolonged, agonising death with no hope of recovery.

Yeah, I've voted in favor of Assisted Suicide when it came up for state referendum. I'm for it and the death penalty. I don't believe in life at all costs which is one of the reasons I don't ID as Catholic anymore.

Certainly, both these very controversial practices have downsides, but I'll take the downsides rather than have sadistic murderers and rapists enjoying macaroni in jail, or a suffering grandparent who is a financial and psychological burden.

Seems like a sensible position. I am pro-choice and I used to tell my liberal friends that a pro-choice/anti-death penalty position was inconsistent. We’re still friends

The difference for me is that it’s solely the state making the decision for the death penalty. Whereas assisted dying would be up to the individual; anyone who prefers to die in agony could exercise that right if they prefer.

Any decision like that wouldnt be taken in a vacuum though, there could be outside pressures

I'm in favour of the bill in theory, I believe in a person's right to die. Having seen someone suffer, pointlessly, and against their wishes, to the inevitable end... I can't see a valid, moral opposition.

It would have to come with some serious safeguards, of course.
