Sonny Liston vs Jerry Quarry (1968-1970)

Post by Joson »

Both guys at their best, based on their known abilities and weaknesses in the 1968-70 period. Liston's past his prime, of course. But can he still beat Quarry?

Who wins and why?

I'm not sure who to pick. Tough call.

Maybe, in early 68, Liston wins.

I Feel like Quarry is probably gonna be too fresh and strong for the aging Liston in these proposed years. As Goose said if Liston is gonna have any shot here this fight needs to be happening as soon as possible on this timeline.

At his best Liston certainly is good enough to beat Quarry, but by this time I doubt it honestly. He still would've been good enough to bust Jerry up and let him know he was in a fight, but Quarry would've outhustled him i think at this time, and probably stopped him late.

68-70 I'm taking Quarry by decision something like 6-3-1. He was fighting better opposition than Liston at the time, and I think he'd outwork Sonny for most of the bout.
