Quarry could fight at light heavyweight with early weigh ins so Jones wouldn't be fighting him at heavyweightgilgamesh wrote: ↑22 Sep 2026, 01:57Maybe so. Maybe not. Roy only had the balls to fight 1 Heavyweight fight so I wouldn't put him over many people at Heavyweight.

Re: Jerry Quarry-Cancelled fights
Roy Jones who was too frightened to fight a 40 year old Buster Douglas would take on Jerry Quarry?
We're back in Cojimar's fantasy world where Tim Witherspoon comes off his split decision over Mike Williams to blast prime Mike Tyson.
Stop wasting your time everybody. Life is short. Let Cojimar waste his.

Quarry would probably not fight at heavyweight in the 90s due to the heavyweights being so much bigger. With early weigh ins he could fight at light heavyweight or cruiserweightgilgamesh wrote: ↑26 Sep 2026, 00:45Quarry was a Heavyweight. Some of today's light heavyweights are bigger than Quarry. What does Douglas have to do with anything?overhand_right wrote: ↑26 Sep 2026, 05:29 Roy Jones who was too frightened to fight a 40 year old Buster Douglas would take on Jerry Quarry?

Jones actually beat Ruiz who is a much better fighter than old Douglas

Quarry fought as a Heavyweight bro. Don't try to put modern times and their bullsh*t on Jerry QuarryCojimar 1946 wrote: ↑26 Sep 2026, 17:48Quarry would probably not fight at heavyweight in the 90s due to the heavyweights being so much bigger. He's no bigger than some of the guys fighting at light heavyweight. I'm sorry if that fact bothers yougilgamesh wrote: ↑26 Sep 2026, 23:49Quarry fought as a Heavyweight bro. He would have around 14 pounds on Roy Jones which doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

Jones wasn't prime for any of those fights, you aren't helping your casegilgamesh wrote: ↑27 Sep 2026, 01:21Danny Green fazed Jones. Glen Johnson fazed Jones. Quarry could faze Jones.
Re: Jerry Quarry-Cancelled fights
Jones had 1 Heavyweight fight against John Ruiz. His prime seemed to end immediately after that fight. Let's not act as if Jones has a long history of Heavyweight success.Cojimar 1946 wrote: ↑27 Sep 2026, 01:23Jones wasn't prime for any of those fights, you aren't helping your casegilgamesh wrote: ↑27 Sep 2026, 01:21Danny Green fazed Jones. Oh suddenly Cojimar recognises that fighters have primes. You hold losses suffered long past prime against fighters you don't like.Cojimar 1946 wrote: ↑27 Sep 2026, 01:23Jones wasn't prime for any of those fights, you aren't helping your casegilgamesh wrote: ↑27 Sep 2026, 01:21Danny Green fazed Jones. I'm not the one bringing up a loss when a guy was 40 years old or something irrelevant like Jones not fighting a shot Douglas when he beat better fighters.
You seem really bent out of shape that I don't rate Tyson as highly as you do but that happens when you lose to Douglas and a faded version of Holyfield 2X

Roy Jones Jr is a great fighter and I am picking him over a non great in Quarry. Don't see how this is a case of trying to tear down a great fighter.overhand_right wrote: ↑28 Sep 2026, 10:16Your life is coming online and crapping on great fighters. You on the other hand seem to be underrating the great Roy Jones
Re: Jerry Quarry-Cancelled fights
Roy was a great fighter, but he wasn't a great Heavyweight. However since he beat Ruiz beating Quarry is not out of the realm of possibility though I suspect Quarry would be a tougher man to deal with. He'd certainly be firing more punches at Roy than Ruiz did.

He also favours the more modern fighter in pretty much every argument, regardless of how idiotic it makes him look.overhand_right wrote: ↑28 Sep 2026, 10:16Your life is coming online and crapping on great fighters. I think he would have been a great heavyweight in earlier eras where the size gap wasn't so massive. But that's just my opinion.
Re: Jerry Quarry-Cancelled fights
A fight of Roy Jones' talents would've been great in any era i agree.Cojimar 1946 wrote: ↑29 Sep 2026, 00:51I think he would have been a great heavyweight in earlier eras where the size gap wasn't so massive. But that's just my opinion.
Roy Jones vs Floyd Patterson is an interesting one to imagine. Would be the fastest 2 Heavyweights ever looked.

I think the cruiserweight version of Holyfield could potentially beat any heavyweight pre Liston. Louis would have a chance but a lot of guys would get wreckedgilgamesh wrote: ↑29 Sep 2026, 00:53A fight of Roy Jones' talents would've been great in any era i agree.Cojimar 1946 wrote: ↑29 Sep 2026, 00:51I think he would have been a great heavyweight in earlier eras where the size gap wasn't so massive. Louis would have a chance? That's good to know.
Dempsey would have a good chance against anyone post Lewis.

I think Holyfield is overrated by plenty of people and he doesn't crack my top 10 but he's going to be a huge problem pre Liston for pretty much everyone.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑29 Sep 2026, 20:13 Louis would have a chance? That's good to know.

Louis could win but Holyfield is probably better than anyone he beat even the cruiserweight version

Cojimar 1946 wrote: ↑21 Sep 2026, 16:23 Quarry's not very good. Why would Liston duck him?
He also didn't hold a belt so Liston wouldn't have been focused on fighting him
Because it was after Liston's reign when he was old and not taking any chances. Both Eileen Eaton and Bill Miller among others tried to match Liston and Quarry and it was always Liston that wanted no part of it. In 1968 Liston and Quarry appeared in separate exhibitions on the same benefit card in Las Vegas to hype a fight between the two that Miller was working on. When it got time to sign Liston walked away from it and took WAY less money to go down to Phoenix and fight the unranked Sonny Moore. Liston wanted no part of Quarry at that point in his career. And frankly, a title wouldnt have mattered because Liston turned down $50,000, his biggest post Ali purse, for a shot at Ellis' title the following year. You can see why when he gets brutally knocked out by Leotis Martin later that year.
