Hasim Rahman Fights Tonight

Post by Taansend »

Why?

His opponent is a bloke who was kayoed by a 5-0 Charles Martin 13 years ago.

I was working on cruise ships when he fought Lewis. I had a feeling he would win as he was training HARD in South Africa (I still remember the slogan on the wall of the gym he was training at. THE HARDER I WORK THE LUCKIER I GET), while Lewis was swanning about filming Snake Eyes with Nicholas Cage. The fight was at altitude & Lewis did not acclimatise.

Internet betting wasn't really a thing back then so I phoned a friend in the UK & asked them to bet on Rahman by KO & they promised they would.

But they didn't.

And now I'm broke.

Rahman was absolutely shot to pieces during that Prizefighter tournament a decade or so ago, he must be completely brand new after ageing and a long lay-off...

That’s sad to see he’s in his mid 50s has he done his dough? It’s so dangerous to be fighting at that age. This stuff makes me sad. Jesus.

It would have been Ocean's eleven he was filming. Snake Eyes came out in 1998

Just watched some sad shit: Utterly washed former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman, age 53, ending a 13-year retirement & losing a slow motion 6-rounder to 40-year-old novice Phillip Triantafillo (now 5-4) in what looked like a community center gym in front of maybe a dozen people. #Boxing is unforgiving.

Rahman couldn't possibly have made much of anything from this right? So why do it?

A Community Center with a couple dozen people in it is about right to describe what it was. If he made $2000 for this i genuinely don't understand how the promoter could afford to pay it.

Rahman/Lewis had upset written all over it. Weird atmosphere in the tiny arena, Rahman going for it with the big rights, Lewis playing around like he was prime Muhammad Ali rather than a fat 35 year old Lennox Lewis. As Boxing Monthly correctly said in their write up of the horror show: "Lennox Lummox".

Lewis' ego was his Achilles' heel. There's a forgotten moment in round 1 of the Ruddock fight where he stands still, drops his hands, and Ruddock misses the Smash by about a millimetre.

Don't know why Rahman fought last night. If he needs the money go on welfare. He was shot and slurring his words well over a decade ago.

Boxing is a cruel mistress it's like an addiction that destroys you.

But I often think it's the boxers themselves that are their own worst enemy.

And the ones that get out with their faculties and finances intact like Carl Froch and Joe Calzaghe maybe grew up with a degree of stability in their familial home that provided a sense of grounding.

But Im sure I don't know enough about either of their upbringings or the minority of boxers that make it out in a good way to come to a healthy conclusion.

Mayweather Jr has made more money than any boxer in history and he's still looking to fight youtubers to make some money.

I think Floyd also spent more money than any boxer in history. Guaranteed to wind up broke.
