What an episode that is, just listened. Two of boxing's most measured voices going through topics intelligently.Glass Joe wrote: ↑04 Oct 2025, 11:04 Former boxing news editors Matt Christie and Trish Dixon recent podcast to dissect boxing in 2025 – is it booming under Turki Alalshikh’s influence, or just papering over deep issues?

I'm tempted to start paying for the opening bell now as matt has a funny swipe at steadman's 'bob geldof' approach to getting paying subscribers!

Tris' channel has got really active again and is really really good with top guests
Re: Matt Christie leaves Boxing News
Opening bell was good this week with David price on it
Re: Matt Christie leaves Boxing News
Alex steedman left the opening bell podcast
Recorded at the EXACT moment when Anthony Joshua-Tyson Fury was confirmed as a done deal for December 11 in Cardiff, The Opening Bell has another important announcement to bring you.
Our beloved Alex Steedman has chosen to leave the podcast. That's the bad news. And it's horrible, crushing news.
The good news is that The Opening Bell will continue - should, of course, you want it to.
Matt Christie, while paying tribute to the one and only Steed, explains the reasons behind Alex's departure and what he hopes The Opening Bell will look like in the future.
Stay with us, folks, we can get through this.
Speaking off boxing news how's everyone finding the current magazine?

Shame, but I did wonder how long Steedman was going to stick with it, he was pretty open about it not bringing in the money he was hoping for.Glass Joe wrote: ↑24 Sep 2026, 13:00 Alex steedman left the opening bell podcast

Tris Dixon was on the show with Matt a few weeks ago after the Benn fight, brought back some happy memories of the old Boxing News podcast from about 15 years ago, would be good if they collaborated more regularly again.

Loved the fact that even though Matt was imploring him to do a goodbye pod, Steedo was having absolutely none of it. Full on toys out of the pram mode.
I’ll miss it, they had a great chemistry and despite his epic self regard Steedo is an excellent broadcaster

Chris Mckenna was on a few weeks ago, he was decent.

Was gonna put this on that big Boxing Life Stories thread we had but couldn’t find it. Just saw Tris has launched a new boxing channel on YouTube, will be worth a sub I reckon.

Just listened to it. It's sad 'Steedo' has gone as he's one of the best readers of the sport as a whole, and him and Matt complemented each other well. I did notice the anger when Matt watched the wrong 'this week in history' fight recently so he was clearly unhappy again after last year's wobble.
It must be so hard to make any money out of podcasts as there are so many. I don't pay for any. I pay the BBC licence fee and there's plenty on there of interest if everything else stopped tomorrow.
As for Boxing News, there's always a few articles every month that make me think it's still worth it.
It does wind me up when they have Fighter of the Month then award it to the same person for KO of Month and Fight of Month then do a fight report a few pages on. Should all be different or you just read the same thing over and over.
They stopped the yearly subscription option which is a bit strange as I can remember when you could sub for two years.
Overall though, still a fan but the lack of it being weekly has also dented my love for boxing a bit.

Yes, i agree with you completely. A lot of posters said it was better monthly, it isn't and though I still get it, I often don't read huge parts of it. I want a short snappy read. If I want an indepth read I'd read a book on the subject. I dont want to read a 15 minute article on a British journeyman. They all have good back stories but they can be very similar. The weekly magazine was so good. The previews were brilliant and gave you an appetite for the fights to come. The two previews on the email aren't the same. Its affected my enjoyment of the game as well. I bet most of the guys that said the monthly version was better don't subscriber anymore. Its all very sad.veriton wrote: ↑26 Sep 2026, 05:33 Just listened to it. It is sad. I'll support it for as long as it lasts but I scan it when it arrives now and then dip in when I make time as there is no urgency timewise. When it was a weekly, I would read it cover to cover as soon as I got it.
Has anyone listened to the latest Opening Bell podcast with Matt C talking about Fury v Joshua? Sounds like a man having a nervous breakdown! He desperately needs someone more positive to bounce off, and Steedo is much missed.
